FYI: You can’t see the star on your own character. Only others can see the star. (It’s soul-bound, as well.)

Have you asked anyone else if they can see the star on the character that completed World Map Completion?

Haha! Thank you, I didn’t know that! =P
Just asked someone and yes, I do have it lol. Turns out I was indeed doing something wrong! xD

Thanks.

Hi.
Finished World Completion recently and today I noticed I still don’t have the star next to my name.

I did get the Gifts and the Been There. Done That title.

Am I bugged or doing something wrong?

PS: I did visit Chantry of Secrets again, and took the portal from LA do Black Citadel, and checked the list of items added to map after launch and have them all. I played since beta (or since gw1), but mostly only wvw and pvp, so that could have been a possibility. BTW, I used this list: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/User:TEF/Guides/Map_Codes_

Thanks for your responses!

He did not make more than one ticket. But he did make a ticket and then also tried on email. This was a long time ago when he tried coming back to the game the other time. Neither were answered, both were like about a year ago. This time he gave up his hopes of retrieving his account, which is sad since he had multiple 80s and world completion.

It seems to me he can’t see his support ticket anymore because when I asked him for it (so I could post in the over 3 days unanswered thread) he showed me a screen saying “Your guild wars 2 account has been suspended for an account issue. This action is permanent”. Is it really permanent? =(

To make matters worse, he told me today he no longer has the email he used for the GW1 and GW2 accounts because it was one email provider who recently chose to start charging a monthly subscription for its email service. Since he refused to pay, he is locked out of it.

A friend of mine ( HDraco.5782 ) has been away from the game for a year and some. He wants to come back now, but his account is banned/blocked for some reason. He has tried to come back to the game before but gave up because he never got any answer from the multiple times he tried to contact support. So that’s why I am posting here seeking help for him since I don’t think he can use the forum with a banned account…

Can anyone help?

I am guessing his account has been stolen while he was inactive and then used for some forbidden kind of thing…

Desert Borderlands made me quit WvW entirely.
Too huge. Verticality only gets in the way. Too desert in terms of player activity.

But it has several very exciting interesting things and ideas. So I’d not say yes or no. But instead: Make it smaller, remove empty space, and make it less limiting to mobility.

Another idea could be having only one Desert BL map instead of one instance for each World!

Deathful Dante.1239

Agree.
I believe (and I’ve seen in it other games) that it is possible to introduce a controlled element of randomness where mobs will respawn (within a stipulated area) but not where they died, previously spawned or near a player currently present in the area.

I like this one too.

Also, I feel it is weird when something pops out of nothing when it did not raise from ground or land from flying. And making mobs not to respawn nearby players would not only fix this but also the lack of progression we are talking about here.

If new players are within range, (and the normal timer is expired), then have the mob respawn. If new players are not within respawn range, then the mob should not respawn. At such a point as any new player enters respawn range, then the mob would respawn.

as soon as the second Player enters respawn range which would be at least as far or farther than visual range for most areas, the mobs would respawn and the Player would enjoy a normal gaming experience.

I love the idea! really, post it in suggestions, man! This sounds clever, makes it better for people killing and does not affect anyone who have not killed it yet.

But I think you should add to it a longer timer to “checked” players too. so that mobs respawns to people who did kill them already, but at much much longer timer. Because otherwise if one clears an area which is not too populated, he would be forever walking on a desert land.

Undercutting at all doesn’t make sense in GW2 tp. You bring the price down, next time you sell it you will sell it lower.
Someone said once that you do not need to undercut because the last guy who listed at that is the one who gets the sale first for that price. Is this wrong ANet?

but anyways, I never undercut, I prefer to keep selling high than selling fast. Everything sells within one day anyways…

At skill point in Temple of Balthazar in Straits of Devastation area, there is a skill point. When I went there to get it, I spent more than half an hour just to get from stairway to the skill point. Then I had to use Sanctuary to be able to complete communing at skill point, otherwise something would always spawn and attack me before I completed channeling. It was actually fun, but spawn there is definitely insane. Lots of risen around and they respawn maybe a couple seconds after getting killed.

Every game loses people (in terms of people playing at max level regularly) in the first three months. Guild Wars 2 is no exception and doesnt seem to be losing any more than any other. There are still plenty of people playing regularly and the population is leveling out (becoming solid).

The only problem I see is that the game experience varies greatly based on your server population, meaning there are a handful of servers that dont feel just right. A few server merges (it is time) to compensate for the natural attrition and things would be fine.

Ok guys, read this one okay? It is obvious but still there are haters blinding themselves.

enemies being too powerful for their label,

I am curious about that. So you blame the game as the reason why you are failing against some enemy? Well, I myself never encountered a single PvE match I could not get through. If you are talking about soloing champs that are your level, because that’s the only thing too hard that can happen, then I gotta tell you you are doing something wrong.

I am actually looking forward to the Hard Mode. GW1 got it implemented at a point and it was awesome. And I think I read it once that ANet does intend to get something like the Hard Mode in GW2 too.

They did get lots of stuff changed this week and it is a lot better but I feel our skills were released as “scratch” at launch. I feel some are still missing proper descriptions and they are missing combo finishers and areas that I feel are obvious to be there, and are not. That’s what I feel.
PS: my main is guardian and I do not have much experience on any other class.

But the game feels more solid each patch. Still lots to do but I love it and it only gets better. I would like to point to preview in trading post and to a LFG system. Also would love you to keep adding combos where they should be.

ANet, I am really happy this week, updates everyday, I feel you guys are working really hard. Keep it going. Keep fixing your core game. Thanks a lot. While a month ago I would encounter lots of bugs everyday, now it is not that often anymore.

Well, this is just a Thank You to remind you we love the game above all the Q.Qing going on. GW2 is growing stronger.

As a kid I would play videogames with my brother and all my cousing for hours. Our motto was “The harder, the better” haha.

What is the fun, the accomplishment of doing something easy that everyone is also doing as easily? No fun, only lame. And, if you are not good or you do not like JPs, just skip it. The title only requires 12 achievments anyway omg.

If you do not wanna do the JP cuz it is timed, then don’t. It is not a must at all.

Also, this patch also had tons of other fixes. And they corrected many skill texts and they added combo areas and finishers everywhere. The patch is huge. And they also included lots of considerations and explained what they are doing. So, THANKS ANET. You guys rock. Devs please keep in mind that everyone who is not here whining as a boring children, is playing and enjoying the game.
Also the JP is not too easy. It is a challenge. It is perfect. I only worry about the people who say they do not load before the first snowflake goes away. And, I am having lots of fun having conversations, snowball fights, dancing and jokes in the area where you wait to start. Downscale more? Then whats the point of getting better gear?

In this game, the point of getting better gear is to survive tougher challenges as your level increases and thus gain access to more areas of the game to play in. It is not so you can more easily lay waste to the opponents that are lower level than you. Games like World of Warcraft may be more in line with your expectations if you were hoping for the latter.

*I thought we were all aware that GW2 was supposed to depend more on skill than gear, but I guess that memo didn’t get out everywhere. *

[…]

To suggest that’s fine is ridiculous.

And this.

So I guess what we need in low level areas are proper rewards, interesting content and a downgrading that somehow “compresses” your gear and stats. I mean, those areas should be somewhat challenging but still let you grow more powerful a little. But two-shooting everything is lame.

Well, I just loved GW1 where every piece of gear was exactly the same, and the low level cap. We spent years and paid the most expensive prices only for titles and skins. That was fun. I don’t feel like it is fun with all this gear progression there is currently. I like the idea of skill better than grind and gear.

Deathful Dante.1239

I think it’s fine as it is. If you felt just as weak in downscaled areas as you do in areas at your core level, the game wouldn’t have much of a sense of power progression. If I go back to an area that’s 40 levels lower, I don’t want to go around one-shotting everything but at the same time I do want to feel quite a bit stronger there than I was 40 levels ago. Besides, you only get about half the rewards from events. It’s nice since you can kind of choose the difficulty you want when you play and get appropriate bonuses. If everything was the same difficulty it would be super lame.

… not to mention there’s nothing stopping you from stripping your armour off and going commando if you want a challenge.

I was defending the idea but yeah, I gotta agree to this guy.

But even if we would agree downgrading is not an issue, it is still a shame that every area seems to be empty all of the time except for lv80 areas. There is an issue.

And well, I think low-lvl areas are much more fun cuz they have lots more of “kill variety”, group events and they have hearts. But feels stupid to play there other than by creating a new character.

Hmmm, in order of appearance:
1. Downgrade weapon/armour: I can work with that if, and only if, it also downgraded repair and teleport costs. Because why would I go there and have lvl 5-10-w/e gear while paying for lvl 80 exotic?
2. Drop gear at own level, salvages at other level: That’s a contradiction right there. Because the items you get from salvaging are tided to the level of the item, so if you are getting lvl 80 weapons, u can’t expect to salvage them into copper and green wood…

You know why that’s not happening? Because you get leveled down. I actually had my gaming partner refuse to help me level an alt because “the repairs aren’t worth it”(almost bit his head off when he said that). Did I mention, I happen to be engaged to said gaming partner? Yeah, my fiancĂ© refused to help me level, because he didn’t feel particularly useful there, he had nothing of value to get(and you can’t have lvl 10 mobs dropping T5/6 mats, obvious reasons) and he’d literally have to pay for it(because the 1-4s it costs to get to some zones as a lvl 80 would take good few hours to gain back from playing on the map itself, let alone if he died).

I, on the other hand, like hanging around low level zones, but that’s because I have this weird gathering fetish… What I would totally go for is…jumping puzzles. Make them like the one in…mount maelstrom?(where you have to finish an event to get inside). Then add some more chests with random spawns(like the gathering resources or the achievement chests with the bugger guys). Have those chests(from JPs and the random) drop the lvl 80 stuff, T5/6 mats so that the lvl 80s have a reason to be there without screwing with the low level gameplay itself. Oh, and we can have actual lvl 80 content in there(like, instead of a lvl 10 champ, put a lvl 80 one there)…seen similar stuff in other games, works pretty good.

+1

Let’s all agree then, it is an issue, ANet just needs to figure out what to do about it.

I think in matters of challenge downgrading gear does solve it. Agree it must be cheaper on repairs and WPs costs.

But they do need to figure out the rewarding matter of it. Chests with good drops sounds good…. but alone is not enough I think.

Well, we just don’t like to see most of the areas empty. By WE I mean myself, whoever agrees and probably ANet too.

Still in Combat bug?

Deathful Dante.1239

Happened to me sometimes. Usually happens to me when I walk by a foe, it attacks me but I keep moving, ignoring it and it stops following me. Then the game will decide that I am out of combat only if I go back and kill it.
For example I remember it happening recently when a risen was following me trying to hit me then I jumped down a cliff to mine a node. Ofc it stopped following and attacking me since it would be a too long walk for it to come down to me. My mining pick run out of uses and I was unable to equip a new one until I went back upstairs and killed that risen.

Happens rarely.

PS: I think you should edit the title to something like “Still in combat bug”. The current title made me think you were talking about the swapping we do mid combat using the ` key. As I read it, I think you are actually talking about being stuck “in combat” while not actually, and thus being unable to change skills, port nor equip/unequip any piece of gear/weapon/accessory/whatever.

There are a couple of unrelated bugs, the skipped content/reversion is specific to an issue that occured the first week or so after ship. There is currently no fix planned for the issue you ran into, since it’s a fairly complex problem with no easy fix. Unfortunately, at this point, the only real option is continuing your story as it is now (with the mis-step.)

Umm… could you make a sticky with all the bugs we might run into that are “not planned to be fixed because it’s not easy”? Would probably be interesting for everybody to avoid those instead of learning the hard way.

Would be very nice to have that list public. Sounds the right thing to be done IMO.

Saying “take off your armor” and “buy appropriate armor from TP” doesn’t help. The matter we are defending here is that there is no reason for one to go back to low-level areas, other than to complete explorer.

People not wanting it to be changed must agree that this IS an issue. That ANet DID intend low-level areas to be interesting to go back to. So this IS something that ANET probably wants to “fix”. So that it works as it was intended to in the first place.

As to how to fix we can only suggest ideas. The choice is theirs in the end anyway but I do think they have lots of much more important issues to solve right now.

And how exactly would the idea in OP help with the issue? If anything, it’d make it worse. Adding incentives(better drops and stuff) is one thing, making the risk higher(and at the same time the price in gold higher) is very different and what people do not want to see happening.

LOL never said I liked the OP’s idea. I only agree that there is an issue.
IMO, and it is only my opinion, my suggestion and I leave it to ANet to consider and decide whether is it good or not; is to downscale armor and weapons too. And I also think that the gear we drop from chests and foes should be at our actual levels. Materials and trophies and salvage items I think must continue the same. My opinion is nothing but a theory but I think this way lower level areas could still be fun and rewarding.

While GW2 was being developed they said a high level toon would have fun going back. And a experienced player would have fun helping a newbie friend at starter areas. Clearly this is not happening.

However, consider how long this patch took to came out, what this patch DIDN’T address, and what this patch broke. This was just a bugfix patch. Can you imagine how much stuff would have broken if there was new content thrown into the mix?

It’s basic stuff. You need to make the foundation stable before you decide to add a swimming pool to the roof.

THIS!

The game is lots of fun still. But I can’t see much sense in adding new stuff while we are still facing issues/bugs with the core game every few minutes!

Here I am having it more often with the step sounds. So when walking on wood or when jumping around it becomes highly distorted. When the distorted aspect of the sound is something continuous then it starts feeding itself.
Yesterday my GW2 completely muted on my desktop for the first time and moving the buffer size in F11 made it comeback. This happened in Sea of Sorrows Borderlands. Right before the map crashed and everyone got kicked out and unable to come back for a few minutes.

I forgot to say that the rest of the sounds (Ventrilo and Skype) continue to play properly even while GW2 is not sounding/distorting.

Actually now I am thinking: is it illegal or not? I can’t believe it is illegal and still advertised and so easily accessible like that!

PS: I can’t understand people that buy such stuff; isn’t the game about getting gold, level and gear and having fun while doing it? So if you just buy them, what are you even doing in the game? Paying someone else (probably bots) to have your fun for you!

I do think coming back to low-level areas feels too easy right now. And I do agree our gear should be weakened too not only our levels made lower. Also, drops that matches our actual level should be fun too, except for crafting materials (otherwise low lvl materials would become impossible to get and it would be too easy to get the higher ones)

But I also think this is a minor issue and ANet should leave every modifying and adding aside and really focus on fixing broken stuff. There are so many bugs that when they try to add or modify something the existing bugs get worse and new bugs are introduced.

What happened to GW1 hack-proof and bug-proof system?
I played GW1 for three years and I cannot remember of any bots, nor bugs. And never submitted a single report else than reporting leechers on JQ and FA.

In GW2 it is really a routine for me reporting bugs and facing really weird situations.
I love this game and I think we speak for the majority when we say “please focus on fixing what we already have before focusing on adding new (broken) content”

Sound engine breaks often

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Deathful Dante.1239

Deathful Dante.1239

I don’t know if is it only me but everyday I play gw2 sooner or later the sound engine breaks. On my notebook the game mutes completely. The solution is to modify the buffer size/latency in F11 panel.

I am music producer/sound engineer and when I play in the studio, the sound becomes distorted (sometimes only a part of the sound, for example environment). And often it seems like distortion feeds itself and keeps raising louder. In this case moving the sliders in F11 do not reset the sound engine and I need to do it by changing the latency at my audio interface.

Sometimes it happens at a sound effect (for example gw2 mutes/distorts right after a explosion sound or something like that). Sometimes I minimize the game and when I come back it is muted/distorted.

Never heard of anyone else facing this issue but I do face it in two different systems so probably there is some kind of problem causing gw2 sound engine to break randomly. And it’s been happening for as long as I remember.

My opinion of cameras

in Suggestions

Posted by: Deathful Dante.1239

Deathful Dante.1239

Camera on GW2 is horrible. Sorry ANet, but GW1 camera never caused me any trouble nor difficulty.
Jumping Puzzles are really annoying on anything else the Asura. And this is one guy who loves JPs!! Any branch and my camera starts to earthquake. You’re in a cave with walls really close to you and it zooms in so much my character goes semi transparent but still lots of stuff in the way, it is impossible to figure out what am I looking at! Actually, a tiny piece of a tree I have just cut down is able to earthquake my camera.
Going inside houses is horrible too.

Plus, when I see someone in a cool looking armor I want to take a close look at it. I can’t because my own character is blocking my view!! For some situations first person view is really required.

I would love the close walls to go invisible when needed. Sometimes close objects do go invisible and it helps… except that it actually causes every other invisible-able object to become invisible too. This often causes me to be unable to look where I intend to. For example in the laboratory jump puzzle in caledon forest on the path from second to third station you need to jump at a rock and then out again, twice. At the first rock, often if you have your camera aiming from higher it will turn invisible not only the above rocks that would otherwise block my view. It also makes invisible the panels I need to jump at. When I first went into this puzzle I was used to always look at my character at a little high angle and this really got in the way for me.
Again with puzzles, leaves do not go invisible. In several places you cannot see anything at all because your screen is filled with leaves.

Another thing we need to be able to zoom out farther! If you are a tiny azura, this is fine. But with my huge charr with huge horn and huge head, and the maximum zoom out possible, my character still takes too much of the screen. Even worst if you are inside a golem suit inside the story line mission at mael-something volcano.

My final opinion is about huge areas. When you are near big mountains. If we can’t zoom out enough it gets hard to look at the scenery. This may sound stupid I know. But it is like being one tiny little being who is only able to look at a tiny portion of whatever it is. Feels bad. With huge bosses ANet did fix this (the camera automatically zooms out farther than what is allowed by default so you don’t fight it while looking at its feet only) but I feel farther camera is also required for huge sceneries not only huge bosses. I don’t know if I have been able to make anyone understand what am I trying to say in this last paragraph but I have already wrote too much! haha

PLease fix camera!
