Ambient Sounds and In-Game Music within Tyria

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

So…. Not sure if this is the right area to be posting this but I’ll throw it out there.

I feel bored in the world when I do nothing. Does that make sense? No? Hmmm. How about this. I find myself with the game sound muted listening to Spotify, Netflix, or the daily Youtube video. I don’t have fun now just sitting in Divinity’s or Lion’s Arch listening to the fountains, or chatter of the crowds, or the occasional level up of the person next to me. (Ok, I agree, the person tome leveling at the bank can get annoying)

What I’m trying to say is there’s not enough ambient sounds playing in my opinion. The music doesn’t seem to loop enough either. I LOVE GuildWars2’s soundtrack. It’s these sounds when I have my headset on that really pull me into Tyria; at least that’s what happened in GuildWars 1.

Guild Wars 1 had in my opinion the best ambient sounds I have ever heard (here’s the kick) in any MMO. The sound of people turning in quests OHHH how much of a nostalgia kitten I have there. I can just remember the amount of time I’ve sat in KC just listening to the crowd chatter of the market place watching or talking in chat.

I finally just broke today when I was sitting at the log in screen of Guild Wars 2 bored out of my mind trying to figure out what I wanted to do in between Class Finals study sessions. Then I realized, the in game music wasn’t looping.

Simply put (in my opinion): In game music should be on a quicker loop, more of those adventurous pieces should also play in zones, and either ambient sounds need to be turned up, multiplied, or added to.

Thank you to anyone who replies in advance. I’d love to hear other’s opinions on if I’m crazy about this or not.

Quaggans and Lack of Content (Very Important)

I would like to post an apology for our Guild Leader’s, for lack of a better description, misguided post. We at Company of Traveling Heroes [CTH] do love our quaggans and do believe they are underrepresented within the world of Tyria. However, there are certain individuals within our guild that take this fandom too far.

We realize Quaggans are cute. They can fear of entire zerges of enemy players (we’ve done this as a guild and yes, we have video proof). But I say again, I am terribly sorry that this fandom of our Guild Leader has spilled onto the forums.

Quaggans are Life. They are Love. And yes, should be treated as such.

New WvW BL Too Big? Let's Visit a Common Idea

The New Maps are FAR too Big, but that’s OK
So I’m from a guild that takes pride in specializing in smaller group World vs World teams that can do things that usually takes 20+ players. Since Heart of Thorns Release the new WvW mechanics have kind of killed off what we do. There are plus sides however.

Since release of the expansion my desire to WvW has been kind of killed off due to the new maps. Don’t get me wrong, they’re gorgeous. The variance in towers and keeps and their lords are a great idea and creates for a different experience every raid night. My biggest problem however with the new Borderlands have been the size.

Due to the size of the maps it’s hard to keep party members together. If someone falls behind they have to waypoint then they have a good 3 minute trek back to us, or if someone logs on late for raid time and we’re already off on a keep or camp far from spawn. Now this size also helps out our smaller groups, by staying on the other side of the map from the enemy server. This gives us plenty of time to attack a keep or tower and down the lord before the enemy has a chance to get in and stop us.

Idea Time.
Me and a friend were talking about how World vs World just felt dead in our tiers. We’re on Maguuma which has been fluctuating between Tier 3 and 4. I’ve heard Tier 1 and 2 are better population wise in WvW, but I can’t imagine how it feels in the lower tiers. In our guild we’ve always had this discussion come up about how WvW could be better, if ANet would bring back or take away from features. The most we’ve talked about is Gliding.

Of course gliding in Eternal Battlegrounds would be a stretch, but imagine gliding in the new borderlands. Gliding through the canyons around East Keep. Or flying in the lava caverns of West Keep. Now imagine by passing a wall by gliding over it with your guildies? Now there’s the problem that always kept coming up. It would just kill off using siege to break into a keep and small groups could just take keeps and towers in a minute.

How would you fix this issue? Make the walls bigger? That would just make some towers look absolutely funny. Use invisible walls? Ok take the lazy way out devs and do that… Here was the genius idea, Flak Turrets. This would create an interest in defense, using 1 or 2 people on turrets around the keep or towers to defend against groups from gliding in. Now I’m not saying a single shot from a turret would kill a player gliding in, but maybe knock them down out of the air.

Introducing gliding into the new Borderlands would also allow for gliding abilities/ranks in WvW. (Can we say WvW Masteries yet?) Possibly defense against flak turrets, i.e. taking more than 1 shot to get knocked down, or being able to drop bombs on enemies bellow. This would also create free advertising for players that don’t own Heart of Thorns just yet.

Anyways this was just one idea I had about how to create a more lively and unique WvW experience. I know I would defend a ton more if I had the opportunity to shoot down an entire raid out of the sky.

High Ping/Latency issue

I’m actually NA and have been having this issue for about 3 days now. About 95% of the time when I go into a large meta event, Dragonstand, AB, Jormag… I’ll all of a sudden have 3k Ping, eventually leading to DCing. Today is by far the worst where I can’t even participate, the lag just completely locks me out.

Game Just Crashes, Can't Even Open Client Now

I’ll check it out later when I get home from class.

Currently I run gw2 off a 2TB hard drive, but I do have a 64 GB solid state drive I could put it on. What could be wrong with my HDD if gw2 is the only program that crashes on it?

Game Just Crashes, Can't Even Open Client Now

I found a Post last night that had my very same issue, but it seems it’s been buried beneath others who are starting to have a similar issue as me. Here’s what I posted on that topic before -
It started last Saturday and the game would just freeze up mid gameplay and then seem to fix itself after a half hour of freezing for a minute then resuming for another.
Then earlier today I had trouble getting into the game. The character select screen was all black except for the charcter panes and the names/locations/levels etc on the left. Loading into the zones took forever too, like 5+ minutes. After a half hour of gameplay my client froze and crashed. Once that happened though I had to leave for classes so I didn’t really care at the time.
Then the patch came out, I got back and tried to log in, had the exact same difficulties except this time on the loading screen into the zones I would crash. Then eventually my client would crash on the character selection screen. Then finally my client would crash as I would try to log in.
I eventually decided to do a client repair, however the client crashed a few thousand files into the repair (did this several times). So I just uninstalled the entire game. As I was reinstalling it, I only would get between 50 and 100 MB into the installation and the client would crash.
Notes-
-I got that same line of text in my log.
-Ever since I uninstalled GW2 my explorer is running slower when trying to open files.
-I did run a few virus checks in between uninstalling and installing GW2
-My Computer isn’t exactly crap either, a week ago I could run GW2 at full with no problems.
-The Attatchment is from the original post when I was trying to install

UPDATE
I woke up this morning for classes, and thought I’d try to install. Now when I try to open the guild wars client, it freezes as soon as the window comes up with now crash window.

Thanks for the tip!

It could be the card, but I don’t know. I’ve played a few other games tonight including DayZ, Minecraft, I even hoped onto my brother’s WoW account to see if WoW ran smoothly. All three games worked just fine.
