If I could change one thing in the game.

I would delete all the legendary weapons from all players inventory and banks that were created within 1-2 months since the game released since it is blantly obvious that those players used the exploits to get them.

OR…

I would remove the Mystic Forge from the game as it is a stupid stupid stupid RNG sinkhole that does not even make sense to be in an MMO.

Sunday morning: Two hours in GW2

God…. Look at all these fanboy’s going crazy just from one person’s post on what they experienced during their 2 hours of gameplay… lol

Whether it’s sunday morning for the OP or not it doesn’t really matter as GW2 is a global game where players play at all different timezones, the OP may be playing on a Sunday morning, but for other people it could be Saturday night prime time for them, or Monday afternoon afterwork/school prime time as well…

The OP is only stating what he experienced during those 2 hours of logging in, in which I am sure A LOT of you out there are experiencing the same because this is simply what is happening right now whether you like it or not.

DE’s are heavily relied upon playerbase, and most areas just do not have enough players on to complete it. Even in Orr where most players are currently situated nowdays to farm karma and loot you would see a DE every now and then with not enough players to complete.

Sure you can be delusional and keep saying there are heaps of players around… But fact is there are only players around places like Orr’s farming spot such as Pent. Outside these area’s its pretty deserted from MY experience…

Is the game dying? No.
But the game is losing its playerbase by quite a lot by the day whilst not many new players are entering (based on the deserted starting areas).

Sure people are taking a break from the game for a few days….
Sure people will all come back for Halloween…
Sure people will all come back after they get bored of Mist of Pandarian…
Sure people will all come back after ….. X Y & Z….

Stop making excuses and face the fact…

The fact is there’s not enough things to keep people entertained, nothing to strive for… nothing to keep people from wanting more…

I do not want to farm Orr for months to rack up half a million Karma.
I do not want to spend 1000-s of gold to throw away into the Mystic Forge in the hopes that the RNG will give me a 0.01% chance or getting a Precursor.

This is not FUN…. this is not what a game should be based upon… We shouldn’t be farming a spot for days & months just to rack up Karma, we shouldn’t throw away all our gold on a RNG magical fountain… But this is what everyone is doing as it IS one of the quickest way to achieve the desired output…

In my opinion, the armor is ugly in GW2

Direwolf.7812

Everyone knows that most of the GW2 armor is ugly, those that defend it are just blantly delusional and try to justify by saying it’s just personal preferences.

The real issue though is that GW2 does not have enough armor skins, they keep recycling most of the armor, even later in the game.

Compared to other MMO’s, GW2 lacks so much variety in terms of different Armor quantities.

There has been NUMEROUS, ABUNDANT complaints about the lack of armor in GW2. These complaints just don’t come up for no reason, sure many of the whiners complain because they haven’t reached ‘max’ level to see all the armors yet. But many of us who have done everything in the game already will also know that GW2 lacks armor skins.

Unforgettable...

Thats still not right.
You should forbid pricing lower than NPC vendor price +15% tax cost.
So essentially the lowest selling limit for any item should be :

Possibilities of F2P PvP to grow eSports?

As much as I try to love the game… GW2 will never be an esport.

GW1’s pvp was really really good, it is 10 times better than GW2 pvp, GW1 had the potential to be an esport.

If you compare real esport games to GW2 spvp you would know that it will never ever be able to compete.

-sPvp is just not watchable for spectators , you will hardly know what is going on. Most skills are just too ‘flashy’ when used and in a team fight when everyone unleashes their skills you just don’t know wth is going on (ie. Fighting at the ‘Keep’ at the start)

-All the classes are absurdly imbalanced, Elementalist’s go down by one Warrior Combo, Guardians never die + their annoying knock backs, Necro’s additional Hp pool when their about to die, then there’s the Thief dominating all classes in sPvP right now… awesome esport there…

-Lack of longliveity – I don’t know but somehow the sPvP just feels really boring after a few matches. The point capping is just too repetitive. You go in, unleash all your skills in the frenzy of all the confusion, you die then you wait for ages to respawn and repeat. Dying in this game is just too common, most eSport games enable players to avoid dying too much, ie. LoL where you can get 16 kills 1 death.

I know the recipe as I’ve crafted one 2 days ago.
I’ll give you a hint, it does not have anything to do with the ghost spawning at midnight that you guys are suggesting.
One of ‘Arcanis’ posts are really close to the recipe ingredient.
I’m just thinking how much should I sell me Forfire now… how much would be just a little bit overprice but acceptable.
I will need to sell my first ForFire in order to get enough gold to make more…

So for the past few weeks i’ve been trying to make gold to work my way up for a legendary weapon…

I started with around 3g and only managed to make around 6-8g in 2-3weeks…

I’ve tried everything basically…

I’ve been playing with the TP, buying low and selling high but only made small amounts of profits…

I’ve been farming crafting mats to sell on the TP but also only made small profit for the amount of time spent farming…

I’ve tried the Mystic Forge, putting in 4 cheap rare/exotic lvl 80 weapons of the same type to hopefully get a better lvl80 weapon to sell… Not much luck either…

So how the heck do you guys even manage to make 100g+ ????

I seriously doubt it’s even possible unless you guys made use of the past exploits with cheap karma weapons or bought tons of cheap exotics when the game was still 1-3 weeks new…

How do you guys make money….. =(

GW2-you need more advertisements for the game!!!

Direwolf.7812

So…. I was watching TV these past few days and I saw a lot of advertisements on the upcoming Mist Of Pandaria for WoW and started wondering….How come GW2 didn’t have any kind of marketing ????

I know GW2 had a real hype about it before launch, mainly through word of mouth and sites such as mmorpg.com but that was about it.
Yes, they don’t need to advertise and their fine right now, blah blah blah.
But advertising the game more would definitely boost the number of new comers for sure, so why aren’t they doing it?

I mean, I walk into my local game shop here in Australia and all I see on the hot sellers are stacks of WoW, COD4 and other games, then way at the bottom I see one small cover of GW2 that is hardly noticeable at all… Now thats just not right…

They should at least get it more noticeable in stores or on the online websites way more than it is at the current state…

This is just very poor marketing for the game.

I only had to read the title of the thread and the first sentence to get the gist of it. You rushed to reach level 80 and are now burned out on the game. There’s plenty to do, though no MMO exists to entertain someone 24/7.

Actually I didn’t rush to 80 at all. It took me quite a while to get to 80, by the time i was 80 most of random guys around me were already 80 before me. I didn’t even realise that i was 80 when i reached it as i was crafting…

How to make money with crafting?

in Crafting

Direwolf.7812

OK i skipped through all these walls of texts.

Crafting is not profitable currently.

Crafting will not become profitable in the future (with the exception of crafting the legendary).

Crafting is too easy in this game, everybody could pick up a craft and max it up and craft their own items without much effort.

I know because I have maxed Jewlcrafting, Tailoring, Artificer and Weaponsmith.
As it stands right now, high level crafted items are just too easy to make, because of this most people can craft them thus they are cheap.

If you want to make money, the closest way is to farm for the MATs and sell them in the TP… =(

Direwolf.7812

So I’ve reached level 80 a few weeks back, farmed dungeon gears, fought world bosses, participated in WvW & sPvP.

I quickly got bored with the lack of things to do that is not repetitive in the game so I thought I could play an Alt and level it up…

Problem is, even though I started in a different area (different race) I’ve already been through all the map throughout the game on my main and repeating the area with my alt just seems really really boring because i’ve been here and done that already…

I tried to play an alt and got him to around level 15-20 and quickly got bored of the repetitiveness and couldn’t continue…

I really want to enjoy GW2, I really want to support the game that originally entertained me for hours on end (GW1)… But somehow it just doesnt feel ‘fun’ anymore.

The dungeon’s in theory sounds really good.
In reality though, people only farm the dungeon for gear and run the same mode. ie. Magg for CoF only. First time around, the dungeons were quite fun, but then after repeating it 10-20 times it got boring fast. I’ve ran dungeons in other games a lot as well, but for some reason I didn’t really get bored of it that much. I think the reason for that would be because in other mmo’s dungeon drops from bosses actually drop above average loot. In GW2 the chests gives me WHITE (80%), BLUE,GREEN loots. Never have I seen a rare drop and that just puts you off from running the dungeons altogether once you already have your dungeon gear…

PvE maps, I could understand why I got bored fast with my alt. As i’ve already been through the area and experienced the DE’s and heart quests it just got repetitive. This goes the same with other MMOs.

WvW- You walk for hours on end to a tower/castle to your zerg group to face another zerg group and try and capture their tower/castle or depend your one. It is pretty fun, until you die and have to walk for hours on end back to the location… There aren’t enough waypoints !!! WvW is only fun for like an hour, then it gets pretty boring as well, all you do is follow the zerg train to capture points, the actual fights gets really messy with all the ranged aoe’s and projectiles all over the place. Most the time you just spam aoe’s and spells towards the enemy group hoping to hurt some of them. Even if they are downed, you cant really finish them off as you will be instantly killed by all the aoe’s if you get too close.

/ End rant…

Please motivate me to play again!!!!

It’s not permanent but your friend will have to wait quite a while (a few weeks).
Your in one of the best WvW servers, everyone wants to transfer over to IoJ so they could dominate in WvW, that’s why it is full.
If you want to play on the same server as your friends then I would suggest you move to a less populated server with your friends, IoJ will be ‘full’ for quite a while.

I actually have read that post wulfrim, I also watch that video of the elementalist that posted his tournament video. thats why I was thinking of going d/d as a tanky spec and running a close range rock shieldy thing build (lol I havent played the game yet but its stone aegis or something).

I got like forever for it to download still (college internet connection) so im just trying to get my research done since I will probably not have enough time to roll 2 classes. The large and varied amount of skills are actually why I want to play this class. in WoW i ran a mage and a priest (both shadow and disc in pvp and pve). I’m not scared of binding twenty hotkeys to play the game i’ve bound 22 to play wow (hell I even bounded hour long buffs)

However, all things aside I want an honest answer for my questions if what my expectations i posted in my questions are not done flat out better by other classes. I’ll be playing a long term gaming friend so im not sure what server hes on (though he already said hes down to switch) so I may take you up on that kind offer wulfrim.

I just want to avoid hitting 80, getting into an elite pvp guild and kindly being asked to reroll a mesmer despite my skill.

in the early TBC of WoW at one point warriors were just rogues in plate and my gaming friend of 5 years who I ran a 2v2 with had to actually leave the team when we realized he was kittening us and i’d be better off going priest warrior. Thankfully after rogues got an MS debuff we could run PMR, however, I want to avoid situations like that where im just not in a competitively acceptable class.

One thing I’d like to mention, you cant bind keys in GW2 like in WoW. You will only have one skill bar, no binding other extra keys.
I remember when War’s were the Rogues in plate, those were fun times being a War…
I also remember when Pally’s could pretty much 2 shot other classes…
If you are planning on doing sPvP alot which is what sounds like it would be, then you would be at a disadvantage compared to other classes. A really overpowered good class duo combo currently would be the Warrior & Guardian. But then if you want a caster class then Mesmer & Thief, Mesmer & Warrior, Mesmer & Ranger is still quite viable.

In terms of PvE, dungeon runs can be done by all classes in this game, so it does not really have much importance. I’ve got the full Arah dungeon set and the full CoF dungeon sets with my Elementalist so I know.

I’m not going to comment anymore as I’ll be playing now.

But the choice is ultimately up to you in the end. If you want a class that cannot out damage other classes or do anything better than other classes than be my guest. I’m just warning you straight up, its up to you.

Also bear in mind, your in an elementalist forumn, they will all defend the class. You should know how it’s like if you play WoW and browse the WoW class forumns. =)

Dungeons in this game aren’t really as "End Game’ as you would expect. Pretty much any random assortment of classes can complete a dungeon as long as the players are half competent at their own class. Sometimes that’s asking too much, yes, but for the most part it really doesn’t matter who you bring along.
Elementalist offers one thing no one else is willing to do. Support. They can create a insane amount of fields for boons and offer massive AoE healing. Not only can they support but they can do acceptable AoE damage while supporting. Dungeons in my opinion run so much smoother when you have at least one elementalist in the party. More than one hinders the party. I recommend bringing a staff into a dungeon.

Glass cannon in my opinion is not a option for a elementalist. We aren’t a dps type class. We are hybrid. The more you accept that the easier your elementalist career will be. Hell, the tankier you build leveling the easier it is.

From having capped both Mesmer and Elementalist I can honestly say Mesmer is just flat out better in every way. They offer the same support in dungeons by providing boons and conditions with Chaos Storm and they can dish out WAY more damage with Phantasms. They are superior in pvp because it just comes naturally to them. They have easier accessed answers to different situations. They can build glass cannons and with the ridiculously awesome abilities they have they can still take a beating. Its more difficult to take down a ‘Downed’ mesmer than it is a living mesmer.

Oh I assure you that elementalist is so much more rewarding than a mesmer. mesmer is the flavor of the month. If a Mesmer kills someone everyones like meh, saw it coming. If a elementalist kills someone everyones shocked and thinks the elementalist is a extremely skilled player. The reason its hard to play is because the average class has 10 skills they switch between and 4 utility/elite. The elementalists has 20 and you have to be extremely familiar with all 20 and use them all actively to be successful. Each one is a answer to a different situation. You need to switch to the right attunement at the right time and press and the right skill.

I will say Mesmer is just flat out better than a elementalist in every aspect of the game but a elementalist thats skilled can take down the flavor of the month Mesmers. Elementalist is not a bad class. It just requires more work, faster reaction, more clicking for effectively the same results but in my opinion the same results are more rewarding.

The post above my is from someone who is not a very good elementalist and dont let him discourage you. Hes likely trying to play a caster. We are a battle mage. I recommend reading this : https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/elementalist/PvE-Pro-Tips/first#post240845
I EASILY pull an entire camp of monsters and take them out with a single spell.

lol… you know nothing about me and calling saying im bad at my class, i’ve constantly scored the highest points in spvp. I’ve constantly run dungeons without wipes. I’ve constantly pulled groups of mobs without dying. All that does not matter, other classes can do the same with much much less effort and can do it BETTER.

I get that you are trying to defend the class, but no need to ruin a new players experience. You know very well that this class is broken at its current state, if not then all other classes needs a nerf, in any case, our class is very underpowered.

We are hybrid, correct. We can support, correct. However we are not the best support. Sure we have boons, warriors also have alot party buffs, guardians have even more than us. Heals? sure we have some heals, haels that requires casting time, rangers also have an aoe heal, so do engineers… We are good at support, correct, but so are the other classes if specced for it.

Point is, we cant really do anything other classes can’t do. Most classes do our jobs better.

In terms of PvP, there are 2 types.
sPvP and WvW

sPvP- Guardians, Rangers, Warriors dominate the battlefield. Guardians with their protective buffs making them unkillable. Rangers with their burst & range shots hurting alot. Warriors with their 2h swords 100 blades combo that kills light armorers in one combo.
Elementalists don’t really shine in sPvP, even if your good at the class, the 3 classes listed above just have a way easier time than us.

WvW – This is probably the only thing that we are decent at. With a staff elementalist, you could rain down aoe meteor shower on enemies on top of your castle to defend it. Too bad it has a long cooldown though. In WvW pretty much all range classes are viable though as most have a range aoe as well such as the rangers hail of arrows.

*Even if you run a tanky ele instead of glass cannon which is what I am currently running, you will find that your damage is really really low for the class that your suppose to be.

If you want a caster that has good survivability and decent damage then the only other option is to go with Mesmer (ranger is not a caster). Mesmers cloens offer much better survivability.

Is an elementalist viable in small pvp combat and large scale? From what i’ve seen they tend to do better in larger scale pvp while being easily killed by the other damage dealers in small. I do, however, plan on running a tanky ele not a glass cannon as we all learned from WoW arena and diablo 3 hardcore inferno (yeah I did a3 inferno with a hardcore wizzy =P) building for survivability will often mean you live longer then the enemy you’re fighting.
Is that viable? Or does a mesmer offer better damage and survivability by class mechnics without having to sacrifice optimal gear? If so, is glass cannon a better choice? Or is the class simply outshone in damage and defense by other classes either by mechnic or design?
Lastly, many say the class is difficult. this isnt a hindrence to me I actually find that to be a bonus, although does this difficulty equate to a satisfying reward? I mean is the step learning curve rewarding or does it simply require more effort for the same effect other classes give? Noone likes to show how good they are by being mediocre.
My appologies for the length of this post but if anyone would mind answering these questions I would greatly appreciate it. Right now im trying to decide between elementalist or mesmer. I really really want to play an elementalist but if the mesmer is just clearly better I dont want to bring rusty tools to an elite blacksmith.

Hey buddy, welcome to GW2!

I am also an avid mmo player with similar past experience as yourself and always played a caster class. Unfortunately Elementalists in GW2 is completely different from what we are use to in other mmos.
If you browse the elementalist section in the forumn you should be able to realise that this class is pretty underpowered at it’s current state…
The elementalist does not enough damage for its sacrifice of having low hp. Other classes deal the same amount of damage as we do with a LOT less effort as well.
For the amount of attunements and combos to master and switch around in our arsenal we should theoretically be able to to alot of damage or at least be able to gain some sort of advantage to other classes, this is sadly not true though… =(

At this state of the game, I highly recommend you to play any other class but the elementalist. Unless you want to get 2 hot by normal mobs, constantly kite around for hours on end to try and kill a trash mob while watching a warrior slash the same mob in 2-4 hits.

I stuck to my elementalist from the beginning and it was too late when i realised other classes were doing so much more damage and surviving so much more that I just had to play a kittened class to level 80.

Ok, so I know Elementalists are pretty bad right now in it’s current state. They don’t deal enough damage for the amount of effort they put out. They are extremely squishy, even if specced for vit and toughness.

I play an elementalist and was going about with my PvE heart quest killing mobs 1 or 2 at a time when I saw a Thief approach the area. He then went around aggroing all the mobs around the place intentionally and gathered around 10 mobs on a train. He then used one of his skills that made him spin around throwing his daggers and pretty much killed all the mobs in one go…

I saw that and was like… wtf… my elementalist should be able to do that… afterall I am a caster class with several AoE’s… But sadly no… my elementalist can’t do jack all…

So disappointed with my class. =(
