What is Meta

www.metabattle.com is a good place to start, but quickly the top meta builds:

Mesmer/Chronomancer (Alacrity Bunker)
Revenant/Herald (Condition build)
Elementalist/Tempest (Celestial Auramancer)
Engineer/Scrapper (Marauder build)

Pretty high up there:

Ranger/Druid (Bunker build — I actually think this one is really hard to kill)
Guardian/Dragonhunter (Meditrapper build--squishy to condi pressure but will kill people if you don’t focus them)
Various necro builds (not sure the differences, but I think I’ve seen both power and condi builds)

Avoid for now as a beginner:
Warrior and Thief

The better solution is to just make it not contribute to capture point control. You don’t need to change the skill in any other way.

Since it affects other players, you could have a Mesmer inadvertently or intentionally cause his team to lose a cap by making his teammates not contribute to capture point control. I think that’s a bad experience when you’re vying for a point and your teammate causes you to no longer contribute.

Better to change it to have an effect similar to Endure Pain or Aegis so you can still use CC or unblockable attacks to knock the target off the point/out of the well.

So If Fractals Are The New Dungeons

Why more fractal IF people only do swamps and molten boss? They would run it 1 time then meh…lets do swamps cuz its faster

Why not take a cue from renown hearts—different fractals scale the progress towards the daily at different rates. Also scale the end chest rewards with the difficulty and time duration of the fractal. Make Swamp and Molten Duo worth like 10% of the daily. Stuff like Urban Battleground, Uncategorized or Snowblind can be 33% as usual. Aquatic can be worth 100% because underwater combat. Now they don’t have to worry about making all fractals equal—they can just tweak a knob and make the rewards roughly balanced across the board.

So lets look at what weapons I will need. I play a guardian. To have the ability to change builds as the raid needs I need a variety. Let’s look at the whole picture! So a Hammer, Mace, Sword, GS and Shield.

Numbers as per GW2 Efficiency

Hammer – 93 gold
Mace – 93 gold
Sword – 84 gold
GS – 84 gold
Shield – 76 gold

I also play a Guardian and I’m a returning player (played at launch, came back a month or two ago). I feel like it’s a bit easier than you think to get started. First, focus on your Zerker set, since most players will be ‘DPS’ in a raid. That’s going to be GS and Longbow in the current meta.

Since you are leveling Weaponsmithing first (smart idea for Guardian), you should look into getting Ydalir for your Longbow via the specialization collection (Berserker’s is available on it). It requires a lot of mastery experience, but you’ll be earning that participating in meta events, doing adventures and having fun, so it’ll go faster than you think.

Now those prices above assume you’re buying everything off the Auction House (and using your own daily Deldrimor/Spiritwood cooldowns). Part of the problem right now is that wood prices have spiked since the start of the expansion (example: http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/19722). If you just take a little while each day and gather your own wood, you’ll save up to 30g on that 83g Greatsword (which is the right weapon to start with). There’s a great little spot for Elder Wood west of Pagga’s Waypoint ([&BKYCAAA=]).

With Longbow/Greatsword set, you’re probably ready to start as a damage dealer. The other weapons aren’t part of the main damage build. Hammer/Mace/Shield are used for tanking and support builds. Sword is for condi, and you’re better off getting Engi or Necro for that. Scepter is good, but now you need to level Artificer as well (which is actually pretty cheap due to potions) and possibly Huntsman (not so cheap, cause of wood) for Torch as OH. Staff is almost never used in PvE. You can leave the rest of these as exotics until later. Basically, focus on one setup first—the rest can come later.

central Tyria mastery points (non-HOT)

The problem is this: If you completed the races and orders personal story steps before the launch of HoT, then you will have points awarded — 3 for each race’s complete story, and 5 total for the completed story for all three orders. But if you complete those same story steps today, then you will not get the points, even though the completed step shows up with a mastery point icon.

I’m pretty sure he said the opposite of this, albeit in a confusing way. Regardless of which race or order you pick, you get 1 mastery point per chapter. Playing the alternate story paths (i.e. a different race) doesn’t get you any more mastery points. So there are in total 8 (or 9?) mastery points from the story: one for each chapter.

Need advice for CM STORY farming group.

You’re not going to be able to main heal like you do in WoW-like MMOs. Support is actually more like League of Legends support, where you do a lot of things (including some healing) to help your team while dishing some damage.

For traits, I suggest going 30 into Honor (Vitality/Healing Power). It’ll make your heals stronger and give you some much needed vitality (Guardians have some of the lowest base health). If you want to go heavy support, invest heavily in Virtues (Boon Duration/Virtue Recharge), since you want boon duration (longer regeneration, protection, etc.) and the additional methods to give boons (pop a virtue to give a boon, etc.). For more tankiness, go into Valor (Toughness/Critical Damage), which has a lot of great tanky traits, like +90 toughness/20% shield recharge.

For weapon choices, it’s hard to beat Mace/Shield for pure tankiness. From mace, you have a symbol which heals, an ability which blocks the next attack, and a basic chain which does an aoe heal on the third attack. The shield provides a protection boon every 30 seconds and projectile reflect/heal every 40, plus additional armor. I like the staff as a support swap, because Empower can make your DPS buddies do a lot more damage for 8 seconds and provides another heal; symbol of swiftness can be a heal with the right traits, and the #2 is another weak heal. Another good options for support is Sword/Focus. You get a blind on a 12 second cooldown from sword and a projectile reflect. The focus gives a bouncing blind/condition removal for support and a 3-attack block for tankiness. The sword’s chain is strong single target DPS as well.

For healing, I like to take Signet of Resolve, simply because it’s the biggest self-heal and provides passive condition removal. Healing Breeze can be used if you need to heal your group more, but I find it’s usually less effective and hard to aim for max effectiveness.

For utility slots, I love shouts. They give great group buffs and are almost always useful. I run with “Retreat!” to give my party Aegis/Swiftness and “Save Yourselves!” for condition removal and making me awesome/stun breaking. My third utility is either “Stand Your Ground” for stability or “Hold the Line” to give the group protection and regeneration.

I’m not a huge fan of our elites. Tome of Courage is good for crazy healing when you need it, but Renewed Focus is nice, since you can pop all three virtues, then use Renewed Focus for a bit of burst healing, defense and offense at the same time, and it has half the cooldown.

Guardian Bugs compilation.

It’s been a few mini-patches since I tested and I don’t have the traits for it anymore, but Permeating Wrath wasn’t doing anything in PvE. It was just causing Virtue of Justice to activate normally instead of burning everyone around me on activation. I’ll see if I can test it in the mists some time.
