I recently reinstalled GW2, after being away for..quite a while. I stopped playing just after Chapter 3 of Season 2 of the Living World (Entanglement).
I’d played most all of the Scarlet’s arc, enjoyed WvW, PvP, started to learn Fractals, and generally had a ton of fun.
And then RL, as it often does, reared its ugly head with a number of family issues that took me away from gaming in general. Now that I’ve had a chance to come back, I am having quite a bit of fun again, even if my playtime is rather hit and miss, but have a few questions.
First, I do not have HoT. And unfortunately likely will not anytime soon. What sorts of things are still “viable” for someone to do, who does not have access to HoT? I enjoyed WvW and PvP, as well as the PvE story content and dungeons, but am unsure how useful someone without HoT can be in those now.
Any suggestions, help, ideas, etc for someone coming back and feeling like they almost have to learn all over again?
Thanks for the info! I am trying to do a mainly “melee” ranger, with the bit of range from axes for pulls and catching runners. Of course keeping bows around for when needed!
Been working on my Ranger a bit more now, currently running around with sword/warhorn and been using the second weapon set as axe/dagger. I’m curious, for those who uses axes, is there a better option? Torch? Dual axes?
And if so, why is it the better option?
I do keep a longbow on hand, for when I really need it, but most times I’m using the sword/horn combo anyways.
The exchange rate is player driven. It is based on the number of gems bought with real cash that are sold by players for gold. It is not “controlled” by A-net, and while it has gone up in price from when I started, it is honestly, fine as is.
As I’m closing in on 80 on my Mesmer, I’m starting to look at specific build ideas, stuff I’ve enjoyed puttering with in game. I’m kind of curious to try out a Power (direct damage) based Shatter and Mantra build.
Not being a great build monkey…I thought I’d turn to the folks here who likely are more familiar with the ins and outs of the class, and see: is this viable? Would it be decent play wise?
As a note, most of my time is in PvE, usually open world, though I DO occasionally dabble in WvW
This sounds like a fantastic idea! While I’m also part of a small ‘friends and family’ guild, I would love to support and be part of this idea when I can (usually on my ‘alt days’).
Name: DocEldritch.3607
Main Character: Gerreth Dumort
Current Server: Darkhaven
Interested Activities: Socialising, Dungeons, PvE, Occasional PvP, even (gasp) light RP
Active: hit and miss. I’m on relatively often, but save for Mondays the time is hit and miss because I’m often running with RL friends who do other games as well, so we usually decide last minute what we are playing!
Additional Comments: LONG time gamer, been doing games from pen and paper, to console, to MMOs since the mid 80s. Still play GW1 on occasion, sometimes other MMOs as well, and dabble in a mix of things. Known to wander around hopping on rocks just because I want to see ‘what is over that there hill’. Tend to have alts coming out of my ears. The 5 slot limit here slows me down! Inveterate crafter and waster of coppers on the Black Lion.
Are you willing to participate in Operation: UNION’S project, Y/N? Definitely
Excellent, that is pretty much exactly what I needed to know! Hopefully the personal instances would work too, those stories are fun. But the dungeons at least are a great thing. Definitely looking forward to the Guesting ability, should make things a lot easier!

Ok, this might have been answered a few times…but I’ve been seeing this come up often in questions friends have asked so want to toss this out here.
First, can you, right now, group cross server? Not necessarily play with your group, but group up so you can chat, IM, etc?
Second, if you can group cross server, can you run dungeons and the personal ‘home instances’? I know that open world questing does not work right now (hoping Guesting comes soon!), but I’ve heard both that you can and can not join a cross server group in a dungeon or home instance.
And third, how in the world do cross server guilds even work? Do you get a ‘second’ guild chat tab? If not, how can you tell which guild is chatting when you are in more than one?
