That is what I have been using for a while now. I used to run the Legion build and really liked it, but wanted to try something else out, switched to this and fell in love. The GS is what I use for primary damage from myself, the Staff is for defense, AOE, and Illusion popping. Greatsword Training in Domintion can mostly like be switched for Crippling Dissipation, but since I spend most of the time in GS, I like the lower CD’s. Build like this take a bit of finesse to get down, but once you learn to control your shatters, it can be very, very effective. I have also run Null field instead of Decoy, but that is up to you with how comfortable you are with losing some survival.
The nice thing is you have a TON of ways to get the Illusions out there, between dodging, Mirror Images, Decoy and all of your weapon skills, you should always have shatter ammo.
With the Staff, Decoy, Blink, and well timed dodges, you can actually survive very, very well. My main armor set is a full Rampager’s set, but I have a full MF set as well, and in that even doing less damage, I survive just fine with only 15,082 HP and 1,920 Armor. The key is to always be moving, reacting to what’s going on. Memser cannot afford to stand still, regardless of what build you are using in my opinion.
The AOE capabilities of this build, I think can help with those having trouble in Orr DE’s (even though I never got anything less than gold, even when I was using the Legion build.) Mesmer does have to work more to keep up with nade spam engi’s, HB Warriors ect. but it’s very possible to do, and I think this may make it easier.
4-6 builds for Mesmer? then I must be playing it wrong O_o
1. Illusions are great…but they are not be all end all. They rarely hold aggro as much as people think they do, but it is a benefit when they do.
2. Weaponswap, I fail to see how having 2 weapons is soooo much better than having a ton of abilities at your disposal…not that weaponswap is bad mind you, just how is Ele’s set up bad?
3. For Elites, Yes, MOA is good…for PvP “mostly”, Time Warp is great, long CD, Mass invis can be very useful, in specific cases…even longer CD. Our Elites are good, but only in very specific situation. (not that I am saying they are bad just not “ZOMG ELE SUCKS, MES IS BETTER”)
4. No matter what, Ele and Mes are two different classes with two different playstyles. Comparing them is pointless.
I have played both… so let me get my 2 cents in.
Right now the only thing mesmers have going for them is the simple fact that the clones/phantasms keep the agro off the mesmer.
thier aoe sux and.. for example…
i went to orr last week. The penitent waypoint events (three total 2 at one end of tunnel one at the other) i could not get a single kill.
As for Mesmer having bad AOE…I’m sorry but that’s simply not true. I have not gotten anything less than Gold in Orr, even while running the Karma racetrack…our AOE isn’t “quite” as effective, or easy to set-up/use as other classes…but Shatters do more than enough damage when used properly. These events were packed and had Nade spam Engi’s, HB warrior’s, Clusterbomb spam Thieves, Barraging Rangers, ect…..also
@Diogo
Mesmer rarely, if ever, use all of their shatters. They use 2 if they are any good. No reason to waste illusions on daze when the 4-5k damage from a quadruple shatter is better. The only other one is the Distortion one.
Diversion, makes sense it’s not used as much. Having an extra interrupt is always nice though when needed.
Distortion, This one is yet again a specific time when used.
These two aren’t used as much because they are reliant on certain situations, rather than pure DPS or Confusion stacking.

Well, I didn’t quite expect to get as many responses as I did
I will have to look over and decide, but I definitely appreciate all the representation here
If I end up not choosing your guild, I wish you good luck and will maybe see you in the field!
They released that picture with the " Shadow of the mad king" announcement, so I am guessing it’s either a jumping puzzle or mini dungeon being added. I myself have not seen it in game, but I could be wrong.
This isn’t quite the same thing, but I couldn’t think of anywhere else to post this
So, if anyone here has seen the movie “Warrior of Virtue” then you can most likely agree that the villain in that, “Komodo” was gloriously ridiculous…but lately I came across something that gave me a laugh.
Komodo
- Wears outrageous outfits, which are purple
- Wields a Two handed sword
- Creates clones of himself in Battle
O_o
I did however note the skill name as well when I started playing Lahm, and found it pretty dang awesome
Hey all,
So when it comes to Guilds, it always seems hard for me to find one.
What I look for in a guild is as follows
-Social (meaning the guild actively uses things like Guild chat, Voice chat, guild websites ect to keep in contact and have friendships…voice chat being a ghost town makes me sad)
- Fun (meaning we are there to play the game for enjoyment, not as a job)
- Sense of Humor (meaning not taking every single thing as serious business all of the time, some things you have to, but have a laugh every once in a while will ya)
- Close-ish knit playerbase (I am not a fan of guilds with giant populations where most people barely even know eachother)
- Active leadership (I have been an Officer in many guilds, and even ran a few myself and feel strong involved leadership is a big role in the overall guild experience)
- No “1337” gamers (I’m sorry if that’s what it takes for you to enjoy the game, but I cannot stand people who say things like “pwn noobs” or try and ruin peoples day…PvP is fun and can be a great expereince, but stop going around like it’s the be all end all and you are captain amazing)
-PvX (I enjoy all aspects of the game, from Dungeons, to WvW, to sPvP, and I don’t feel one should focus on just one thing)
A bit about myself
- I currently have a 75 Memser, soon to be 80
- I am 24
- I am in PST
- I have a sporadic play schedule, sometimes 8 am to 4 pm, sometimes 9pm until 5 am but I get a good amount of playtime, and try to whenever I can
- I can bake a mean pie
These things are relatively simple, but it seems it’s harder to find than one would think. I miss the guilds I used to have in games like SWG or MXO who felt more like a family than anything else. I hope I can find a home in GW2, until then I shall keep playing this amazing game.
So, if you feel like your Guild and I would be a good fit, please let me know!
Love the work you have put into the videos. I did not really need to watch the videos, as playing the Mesmer came pretty naturally to me, but I still watched them anyway! This is definitely the place to start for someone interested in the Mesmer and getting info about the Profession itself. I have recommended your videos to others who have asked for more info about the class, and where to start since rather than needing to explain, I can give them a much better source
I’m sorry, but it seems you are in the wrong part of the forum, let me re-direct you https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/elementalist
Well played, was nice watching you. I have to get around to trying out a shatter build at some point, I still like my legion/utility build…even after the changes I still find success. Looking forward to seeing more of you in the future
