Okay. This skill was nerfed in PvP. From what it seems, it was only nerfed in sPvP, not WvWvW.
Let’s try to examine why.
The effect of Save Yourselves is to take all of the conditions of your nearby allies and bring them to you. To compensate, you’re booned to high heaven. Always remember the the skill does both of these things.
In sPvP, this has been nerfed because it was too powerful in a 1v1 situation. I do not think that retaliation was the reason for this nerf. When a Guardian is alone, this skill is equivalent to an “I Win” button since there are no allies to cure the conditions of. Given that sPvP involves a lot of 1v1 fights, this nerf makes sense. In PvE and WvWvW, the Guardian is far more likely to have allies around him, and thus far more likely to actually acquire conditions due to this shout. Not changing the skill makes sense here because being booned to high heaven is truly being compensated by the conditions that were just acquired. Of course, a Guardian could still play alone in PvE, but it seems that ANet has chosen not to nerf a skill because of a way that a player can choose to play but rather because of a balancing issue.
In conclusion, I can see how this was unbalanced, and I’m glad that skill separation between PvE and PvP was reintroduced to address it.
Renewed Focus is the Guardian’s best Elite skill hands down, in my opinion. It’s also the only one that can be used underwater, so it gets points for that too.
As for why, it’s utility is excellent. It instantly recharges virtues… excellent for Courage and Resolve, and it grants invincibility(save from already existing conditions) while it’s occurring. Thus, we have something that not only can save a guardian’s tail during that big attack, but something that also sets up some of their most useful skills to be used again.
If you’re a Guardian and you aren’t activating your virtues, shame on you ^.^
I’m not so sure about the Wall of Reflection nerf. In PvP, you’re an idiot if you’re killed by it. All you have to do is stop shooting for a few seconds.
In PvE, however… NPCs are idiots and will keep shooting at it. And it’s hilarious.
Given that the PvP/PvE skill discrepancy has been officially precedented with Save Yourselves, I could see this being nerfed in PvE, but not in PvP.
…Or they could improve enemy AI to simply not shoot at a Wall of Reflection. Either way would probably solve that particular problem.
I saw 5 character slots, so I decided to at least try one of every race. Currently I have:
Main: 80 Sylvari Guardian
Alts: These are just waiting for me to play… eventually.
3 Human Mesmer
2 Charr Warrior
2 Norn Ranger
I had an Asura Engineer, then realized that Asura Tech and Engineer Tech really don’t match. So that will get replaced by an Elementalist, since I can think that the Asura are so technologically awesome that they can just “make” magic
If I play the game long enough to want even more characters, I’d branch out to 8 so I can go for one of each class. It would be Charr Engineer, Sylvari Necromancer, and either Human or Asura Thief.
The request does make some sense, when you think about it in the context of “Role Playing” like Claliope is. That could involve acting as if you actually live in <Insert Town Here> instead of wandering the world, so sitting down for, say, a drink would be commonplace.
One thing that really works for it is the Town Clothes. It’s a nice touch.

“It’s also a bit laughable to get the email advertising the event at the start of the weekend, while the event itself starts on Monday.”
I got an email today as well, but it was advertising the Halloween Events in the original Guild Wars. Perhaps yours is the same?
Odd occurrences aside, this is definitely one of the most humorous swear filters I’ve ever seen. Everyone loves kittens!
To stay on topic, other people have noticed that all of the “odd” words and phrases being kittenified contain substrings that are words that a swear filter would catch. I found it surprising that they even caught acronyms that contained swear words.
What this means is that the filter is working… too well! dun Dun DUN!
I definitely agree here. I haven’t enjoyed an MMO this much since… well… the original Guild Wars.
…Fancy that.
A “Polymock Arena” Portal that is disabled, if I recall correctly. Either way, there is a clearly labeled Polymock Arena on the World Map. I find it hard to believe that it would be put there if it was never intended to be used.
I, too, was annoyed by Polymock in GW1, mostly because it was so hair pullingly difficult. Well, unless you paid out the nose for one of those rare super powerful monsters.
However, I think we should give it another chance if ANet does toss it in. I bet it could be a lot more fun if they pay as much attention to improving it as they did for Guild Wars itself. One thing I’d like to see, though, is PvP Polymock.
