I’ve been playing daredevil condi d/d thief like a bunker from start of the league. I’m diamond now and playing casually. Last 2 weeks only doing 3 games for daily progression.
In the middle of sapphire i started playing DH and ele and couldnt progress further, exactly 50% win ratio was holding me in same place. After 40 games on ele and 50 on DH i went back to thief and basically rushed through till diamond. Having around 20 win streak at the end.
All i did, was going far and camp there. Sure, sometimes it didnt worked out, but most of the time it did. With minor exceptions.
Only real counter r scrappers. They will kill me(most of the time), it will take them a while, but they will.
Eles r impossible to kill, but they also cant kill me, so not a real counter and if somebody comes to bring them under 90%, they die. However there is also a nice weapon in ur (a)rsenal((a) is for anti censoring …) against them, boredom. Few times i bored them so hard, they stopped playing good and i killed them. Ofc will not happen against top tier players.
Bunker mesmers r np at all and i always decap the point against them. I also put them under good pressure.
DHs r only hard, if they camp on the point and have all traps placed and new ones rdy of cd.
Revs r np most of the time. Clever condi revs can kill me with confusion and torment.
Those healing druids, who only do dmg with pets r very very hard to kill, but they wont kill u also.
Also a funny thing, most of the time fighting 2 enemies is easier, than 1 of them, even if one of them is a scrapper. Might even kill a scrapper in that scenario, who will otherwise kill me 1v1.
U can see me play in the video in my signature. U can also see, that i’m not a good player. I improved myself and the build, but still far from top tier player. And still this build carried me easily to diamond. I dont understand, how this is not even in the “good” section of the metabattle. But maybe it is good so, i would hate it to play against me, kittening annoying as hell.
TL;DR i find “bunker” thief is pretty viable option. Maybe not in pro leagues, but in guild league for sure.
I try and try and try to tank it with my thief, buy somehow i keep winning and playing with ppl like car crashed or orange logo. Ur tactic sux, can u suggest something else plz? I really want to tank it, but dont want to be reported.
Weapon swap sigils break this idea.
You would be able to keep your foe chilled, bleeding, blinded and poisoned with just auto attacks and weapon swaps.
They dont, they all have 9 sec cd.

I request elaboration on how thief would become “really op” with this.
Quick pockets will allow u to never go out of initiative. Just imagine never ending pistol whip. Or vault …

Ofc they could add a 9 sec cd on that trait, like the sigils have. That would fix it.
I’m also against it in any way. For a thief, weapon swap is a strategic thing. While other classes need to swap, to keep up in dmg, we dont. Weapon swapping often distinguishes between good an bad thiefs. Maybe lower the cd for 2-3 sec, but not 0 cd.

Since all this meta bullkitten, i got a lot of: “thief, can u change plz?” “ooh no, we got thief on our team, we lost” crap, i’m sure, many of u too. But today, after i refused to change, in 2 different matches some said “just report for botting”…
Ele just told me, i’m wasting my time(told me to play meta, but how is meta born in 1st place?). He got careless, i killed him, got the point and my team won.
I’m in ruby tier 3 right now, playing casually. So i guess, what ever i’m doing, working.
If i see a rev insta die cs 2 and i can fight them for minutes. Than i ask my slef, why should i play meta, if i will perform better with none meta?

I really didn’t finish the video, because i got extremely annoyed that you didn’t once, from when i stopped viewing which was about 4 mins in, use your steal skill. I saw many opportunities where your steal skill from Thief could’ve come in handy, but you didn’t use that extra stealth, you instead shortbow 5’d away. I am definitely not hating on you man, just try to be more aware of everything you have, and use them to their full potential. You are a condi spec, and P/D at that. Which thrive from stealth upkeep. So just alittle friendly heads up from an old Thief
Hi there! Good tips but you’re talking about a different build than the one I am running. My steal does not have the trait that applies stealth, however I could still probably be using my steals a bit more accurately.
If u use steal and it lands, u steal a skill form the enemy. Which skill u steal, depends on which class u r stealing from. If u steal from thief, u get stealth skill to use. That is what AikijinX trying to tell u.
And now i tell u now an before(not saying u r wrong, but to spare ur breath).
I played GW2 from start and quited a long time ago and now came back for hot. I played thief than and i do now. And like now thief forum is filled with 44% “thief is op”, 44% “thief us the worst class” and 1% of other stuff, forums were back then. Just shows u, how much they listen to the community.

I use acro in my pvp build and find it pretty good. I tried to replace it with others, but they were not as good for me.
Would be nice if they gave us swiftness elsewhere. Even if it was a buff to Acro minor. Now we’re pretty much forced to use Dash for mobility and deal 0 dmg.

Yes, it was very hard to give up SB. But very worth it for this build, imo. There r so many benefits on weapon swap and u can do this so often. Today i fought a build like mine(finally 1st time) and he/she was using SB. I won 3 times easy and 2 of them were 1v2, cuz i can keep dodging and blossoming so much more.
Today i started using bandit’s defense and it is so nice. 12 sec cd stun break and a knock down, which works pretty well, if u do it right. So with 3 phys skills i took brawlers tenacity. I also dont find impairing daggers to fail a lot, u just need to time it.
Weakening strikes r pretty much useless for me. I tried it on golem and i proc it very rarely. I have no idea about havoc mastery working for codi dmg or not. I just assumed, it does. But i think, u r right, no condi dmg increase.
I like this build have you considered the D/D venom share w/ thieves guild an daredevil evade abuse build yet? similar concept only you delete people a LOT faster.
I did not. It is a build with different game play, not the one i want. Also i hate to be dependent on and 2.5/3 min cd. I want to be able to fight anyone anytime and hold my position 1v2 long enough.
Ty for all the feedback. I used it, coupled with more testings and i think, i came up with a build, i’m most satisfied with. However there is still one thing, i cant decide. Quick pockets or sleight of hand?

Impact strike is so awesome.
There were no changes with this patch. I’m pretty disappointed with this as well.
U could have just gone to a vendor and checked, that us still can buy 2 keys for 1 matrix.
I now tested different setups. I keep acro instead of DA, while DA is superior for 1v1(enemies die a faster), it sucks a lot 1v2. I just cant survive long enough for my team mates to backup.
For sigils i swap agony for energy. It is at least, as good(from my feeling), as bleed duration and gives 1 extra dodge.
I also tried other on swap sigils, but they dont feel as good.
With the boosts to potent poison I find I get more damage from a DA/Acro/DD build and dropped trickery . While I play wvW in my current build I went for Shamans moreso then settlers with a little apothecary mixed in. This gives 2800+ armor along with 17k in life.
I dont play WvW much, cant say there. So my only options were settlers or carrion. With carrion i felt so squishy, couldnt do 1v2s at all and in 1v1s were loosing way more. While dmg was definitely better.
I too use d/d both sets having switched off from SB as you did putting energy on each. This gives me another impaling lotus thus dodge every 10 seconds on weapon swap making him very hard to hit with the evades from DB tacked on.
I tested energy and it felt not that good. But i think it was cuz of acro. I will definitely try DA instead of acro now and there i probably will need energy. Wonder myself, why i didnt tested DA, DD and trickery, cuz i also tested with trickery, acro and DA.
Daggerstrom is great in Pve or WvW zerg fights but not so good in smaller scale battles so I will switch that out when it gets to that scale. I went with the Surperior Rune of thorns to increase poison stacks as base bleeds are already very decent in the build and they tend to get cleansed before they hit their full potential but I can see Krait working well here.
Same argument works for removing poisons as well. I decided to go with krait, cuz bleed is main dmg and i’d like to push that more.

I have used this build in WvW to great effect and in the Pve have soloed 2 champions
I am not sure how much more you get out of the agony sigil. What you might want to do is make this energy instead as energy will give you another dodge with impaling meaning better defensively AND will kick in even more heals from the SOM something agony does not do.
If using rune of krait, sigil of agony gives u almost 15% more dmg on bleeds. Dunno if 1 impaling lotus every 10 sec will be better.

I saw deardevil dodge change traits and immediately though about this build. Worked out quite well. Only real problem r good dragonhunters, mediocre r np. Can 1v1 almost anything. 1v2 is also doable. Can survive many 1v3 fight for long time for back up to arrive.
I now switched SB for another pair of D/D and using agony and geomancy sigils on both swaps for more dps. Experimenting with basilisk venom and impact strike, not so found of dagger storm.
As u can see, i’m not as good of a player and this build still does it’s job great.
Open for suggestions hot to further improve this build.

*EDIT 3 changed the build a little bit. It feels, that i have greater success with it now. Bandtit’s defense seams pretty good, 12 sec stun break and a knockdown, which saved me already many times.

3rd fractal mastery was giving unlocked encryptions, right? Why it does not anymore?
or 4 of the group go to the rear end of the room, while one person pulls that asura to the entrance and kites him around one of the columns there. It is very important, that all 4 stays far behind, else asura will agro them.
Why there r no stats on this weapons, or is this a way to force us to use crystals?
