Surprised no one answered you, refer here for very good tips
and yes do also check out Tage’s guide he refers to. that person was the bunker guard of the team that won the EU tournament of legends
Ok i’ll tell you what I know. Yes there are certain skills, traits, runes, sigils and effects that increase your healing by a significant amount after you invest into healing power, mainly on the guardian and elementalist, at times for a shout heal warrior. Healing themselves and allies.
I will now show you some examples of skills + traits that scale well with healing power
The key factor to look out for is the healing coefficient. which is the value mentioned in brackets after the healing amount. When you put your mouse over the question mark it shows you how its calculated, how it scales with healing power investment.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Empower
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Cleansing_Wave (with evasive arcana every 10 seconds)
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Vigorous_Shouts
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Water_Trident
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Selfless_Daring
As you can see with the above, they are quite useful and are central to certain builds with healing power investment. Now i will give you some examples where healing power does not scale well.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Superior_Rune_of_the_Dolyak (0.023)
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Geyser (not so good with healing power, its better as a water field to blast)
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Water_field (in general, the person leaping/blasting the water field doesnt need to have good healing power because the coefficient is only 0.2)
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Regeneration (in my opinion its not worth going for healing power if you just want your regen boon to heal that tiny bit better)
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Healing_Signet (the passive heal scaling is at the bottom and clearly not worth investing healing power for)
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Elixir-Infused_Bombs

One thing to note however is that multiple sources of small heals will add up eventually to make a significant difference, but I hope this helped. I’m open to correction
Gust is not intended to be a “use when off cd skill”. It has a short cast time, a decent travel time and it pierces. It is reliable to use when the enemy is nearby however when far away (1200 range) the main uses are on stationary targets which can be:
-an enemy stomping an ally
-an enemy ressing someone
-obvious channeled skills which root the person (barrage, meteor shower, empower, frost bow 4 and 5)
-stunned or immobilised targets
Observing and using gust when the target is in the situations above + doesnt have stability encourages skillfull gameplay
In my experience, ring of fire is good to stack might with i usually use the frozen burst/earthquake soon after and then dodge in earth. However with burning speed if you frozen burst right after it, i never get the might stack which is quite annoying that i have to move back. And i never liked flamewall since i have to be standing right on it for the frozen burst/earthquake to give me might or dodge right into it (in earth).
The flames are visible to everyone. What I think the wiki was referring to was the small lit area around you when you have the backpiece on.
they’re well balanced now (minus str runes and celestial ammy)

hi there. so i made a ranger purely because of gs/lb . not interested in the other stuff atm.
but i cant seem to get maul to high those high numbers even with full zerker
got SotH already which did seem to help abit. most it seems to crit is about 5k
any other tips?
Dont know why Anet still havent changed diamond skin yet, its too situational and complete immunities dont help competitive skilled play.
Funny enough when me and other eles logged in after the patch, the standard trait setup had diamond skin, wonder what they’re trying to hint.
Ele definately needs more active condi removal or condition mitigation. Especially against chill.
The most logical way of hotfixing diamond skin would probably be similar to what they did with automated response. Another possibility is reducing significantly the condition damage recieved rather than the duration.
oh no i just meant the AA chain takes 1.5 seconds to complete. The might is 7 seconds yes, and will be slightly longer with strength runes
You ask how one deals with an Ele?
You cant.
#Elepocalypse is here. Lets see those tears
Elestian already explained why Renewing Stamina and Elemental Attunement are important for a D/D ele survivabulity.
As for Evasive arcana , with D/D and celestial amulet you’re going to be in the middle of the fight, stacking might and doing AOE dmg.
Flame burst will be stronger burning because of the cond dmg from might
Cleansing wave is obviously sustain through extra healing/cond removal every 10 seconds
Blinding flash is an extra blind if you dodge near your enemy
Churning earth is a blast finisher every 10 seconds so even more might stacking..
Though depending on your build there might be better options for these 10 points such as Spell slinger in fire if you run triple cantrips, Or stone splinters in earth.
well I certainly find d/d to be the most fun, but thats not to say i dont play others from time to time.
Practice with the weaponset you want and learn when to use the skills.. dont blow cooldowns for the sake of it.
Start with a nice hybrid bunker with celestial
Well I can only speak for sPvP since i dont WvW with my guard yet.
My Bunker Guard uses Hammer/Staff . Battle/Strength sigils. Runes of Strength.
Purging Flames and Hallowed Ground for Fire fields. Blast from Hammer.
Traits include Two handed mastery and Master of Consecrations.
Perhaps you might want to get Might of the Protector but that depends on you, personally not a fan of most traits in Valor.
Empowering Might will definately be useful if you have a good crit chance.
As for the greatsword AA chain, its 1.5 seconds and the might isnt very long though it will get longer, its still an option to look into but I feel the hammer/staff have much better might stacking.
Not sure about healing, maybe a burst heal since theres quite a bit of regen already .. but it’d definately be a good idea to have it as a support weapon. A quick long range AOE for damage and tagging, some soft CC, some boons, maybe a blast. It’ll help rangers find a place in larger groups..
Not sure about stunned.. but in vapor form (not mist form) i’ve been pushed back by stuff like guard’s line of warding, and ele’s unsteady ground
Haha because you taught me it cheese, credit where its due!
Recently i’ve been trying to make a glyph based build.. since i got bored of cantrips, signets are kind of boring and lacking, conjures feel clunky and situational though still have their uses and I do not like the new arcane heal skill (due to the radius.. most vulnerable class jumping in between a group of people).
Though I’m on staff, i’m sure you can bunker as well with the other weapons.
Remember GoEP is a stun breaker. Personally I prefer to use the air effect for weakness, or the chill since i get regen from the trait.. and coupled with any glyph of storms (esp air because of impact number though Earth is great too) on the capture Point.
Glyph of renewal can turn around a fight if you use it right, its why i got the rock solid trait.. the water renewal is probably the best.
Anyway let me get on to the build ive been experimenting with..

Hope this helps
I will tell you what i’ve experienced… in dungeons, or in general any PvE content its not about maxing your vit/tough/healing rather damage mitigation which is why its best to just go berserkers.
As an elementalist you should be moving around all the time, kiting even while using daggers since its skill’s have decent range.
If you stack alot in dungeons, i would suggest the trait Lava Tomb (Fire I). Like others have said the trait Renewing Stamina (Arcane II) is an essential as you will dodge red circles or channeled attacks often, even while stacked.
Personally i feel Obsidian flesh (Focus 5) is much better than mist form , especially when traited to have a lower cooldown since you can use your heals/buffs.
Finally, unless you’re using tornado for meteor shower .. the Earth elemental is great for enemy aggro.
