Can't fight bad guys because of wild animals roaming around

For those repeatedly posting the equivalent of “I’m annoyed because I’m too lazy to kite or selectively use my skills in combat, and so want enemies cleared out” I can only ask where are you even having these issues. (The only possibility that comes to mind are certain Dredge mines.)

I can’t remember any significant zones in which wandering yellow enemies were near my hostile enemies enough to cause me great concern, and I have -never- found an enemy I couldn’t appropriately kite to a safe zone except for Orr zones during event spawns.

For the person claiming enemy leashes are short… How far are you trying to kite them? The entire zone? You can drag most enemies a fair distance away before they try to reset. In addition to that, most enemies will treat certain other enemy types as hostile and begin fighting with them if you’re out of range.

Wasps and Boars in Queensdale. Trolls and Arctoduses in Frostgorge. Ettins and just-about-everything-else-in-the-game. Same with Wargs. The idea that you’re getting all of the attention in combat and can’t avoid it seems ridiculous to me.

I don’t mean for it to come off as a “learn to play” post, but the simple fact is that enemy placement and enemy population isn’t a significant problem until you get to certain areas in Malchor’s Leap. (I would even argue that Malchor’s Leap is the ONLY zone that needs to be reevaluated in this regard, the Cursed Shore is fine.) If you’re dying in lower level zones because you’re getting swarmed… Fight enemies towards the outskirts of where they generally spawn, try different weapons, or bring a partner.

The 3 team theory, and why it's wrong.

It’s just a lack of servers coordinating. Honestly, if each week, losing servers could actively agree to not fight each other and ONLY raid the winning team, things would be awesome. But people aren’t that coordinated nor trusting.

WvW is beyond borked (when one server owns 95% of the map all week)

Honestly, they just need to approach it with some form of better matchmaking system. I’m from Anvil Rock, and I’ve stopped WvWing as fervently now that we’ve hit the third or fourth week facing servers that – clearly – have full WvW queues around the clock.

There’s nothing engaging about looking at your WvW screen each week and seeing that some server has 90% control of the map. For most players entering a map where the enemy has almost complete map dominance, it’s a huge motivational drain. For my part, I don’t even enjoy WvWing in those circumstances unless one of our server’s better known WvW leaders is on and clearly leading some sort of effort somewhere.

Stopping server transfers is all well and good, but the big issue now is we still have severs with a -history- of maintaining near complete map control facing fodder servers, instead of appropriately matching servers like Darkhaven and Dragonbrand against each other and letting the quote “baddies” duke it out in their own league.

Every competitive online game has a ranked matchmaking system – whether visible or not – so why doesn’t this one have one for WvW?

How do people have so much money?

Had I been cleverer, I would have dumped ALL my gold into iron ore back when it was at an all-time low price of 4 copper a piece.

At 12c a piece now, once you factor in taxes, its still about a double on your investment. MOST of the people I know with a great deal of gold were players who got to 80 quickly and got to hit the market before it got flooded.

The rest bought gold with money via Gem Store.

Personally, I’m sitting on maybe 20g right now between characters because I’m lazy. I could see how you could easily farm 2-4g per day doing different sorts of things, but I lack the desire. The only reason you’d ever need that much money? Legendary Weapons.

Honestly, I like it. It forces you to choose your skills selectively, or move enemies to places where the terrain is better suited for your playstyle.

I get that it’s inconvenient, but not every aspect of combat is supposed to be – nor should be – convenient. So you have to give up an ability or two to kill an enemy. Or you have to begin thinking about positioning in combat. This is a good thing.

Crafting can actually make you gold for once?

There’s a potential for a multiplier there if you get lucky. The few silver profit can skyrocket if you get lucky salvages. At about 2 ecto per salvage thus far (from just trashing my tailor made yellow gear as i replace it) it could be profitable. At the same time, ecto prices have already dropped 3 silver. As a result, everything using Ectos is going to suddenly become a lot cheaper.

It was suggested to me earlier that the Runic Blade (Skin can be found via the PvP Locker) might be a Mystic Forge recipe. Can anyone confirm this or otherwise tell me where I might find a weapon with it’s skin?

Is crafting just a waste of time?

in Crafting

Drakos.3510

There’s essentially no profit to it. Right now it serves as a gold-sink and another gating mechanism for Legendary Weapons – a means of making it take longer to get them while making them more expensive. -IF- you get your Crafting to 400/400 you can make your own exotic gear (unless you need a stat itemization that crafting doesn’t provide) via your own mats, but the money you think you save is laughable compared to what you would have made selling all the mats to get to 400/400.

Legendary Weapons are the only reason to pursue Crafting right now. Period. A few people claim that they’re making decent profits by mass-producing +5s profit items, but honestly, I think I’d rather just hang out in Orr or Frostgorge.

Certainly do not pick it up if you aren’t going for legendaries and just want to have the money to get your max-stat gear. You’ll have that money faster by selling everything.

Half the Iron in 20-30 and 30-40 zones needs to be changed to copper

in Crafting

Posted by: Drakos.3510

Drakos.3510

There may be too many iron deposits, but it isn’t as though copper is ridiculously difficult to find (the starter zones -only- have copper and its all extremely easily gotten to), and iron basically has to be used twice-over by professions using steel.

Honestly, insofar as mining nodes go, I feel like should there be a change, Iron in the 30-40 zones need to have more of them converted into Gold. THAT is a scarce ore.

Aside from being "fun" there is no real goal

Karma items are cosmetic. You farm them because you want to look awesome. This is Guild Wars.

If you’re playing a game, and the only goal you have is “max stat loot” then this will be a short ride for you. Get to 80 and buy the appropriate set of choice for 10-20g or, if you’re unfortunate, run dungeons for sets with stat itemization that doesn’t appear on crafted sets.

Retire until expansion.

But, that isn’t really how I feel the developers intended this game to be played. Find something or someplace fun and do that. Play some WvW, Kite a Priestess of Dwayna across Orr, play tag in Divinity’s Reach. Do what appeals to you. If nothing appeals to you, retire. No one’s judging you.

Feedback is tickle.

in Mesmer

Posted by: Drakos.3510

Drakos.3510

I’ve killed quite a few people with feedback. Since they “nerfed” it to no longer work on siege weapons, that number has lessened, but in WvW especially, Feedback can easily alleviate pressure on a gate (people are dumb) or be used to drive back every Ranger for a few seconds or more.

Spell Reflects by virtue of their functionality rarely kill people because of how people play. Once you drop to about 30%, you retreat. That’s usually about the range a Ranger needs to be in to die to their own arrows unless they’re using longbow 2. Other classes are more timid about their health, so it’s hard to kill them with reflects. BUt that’s not its purpose. Drop it on a crowd to disperse or drive them back.

So, I’ve run most dungeon on my Mesmer, and while I can’t say I feel particularly powerful, I feel like I just don’t die. Period. If my team is doing particularly poorly and they begin dying on encounters, it’s me running around and picking them up or otherwise keeping the boss busy (quite comfortably) until they get back.

Biggest problem right now is that I’m not entirely sure what I want to spec. For now i’ve been running GS / Sword Sword with Null Field Feedback, Time Warp and typically decoy, and I feel like iZerker is nice AoE Burst and GS1 is decent enough damage spam that I don’t overly mind it. But I’m wondering if I wouldn’t get more utility out of running a Staff + Sword/Offhand spec.

Rather, I’m wondering if our condition spam is worth investing in a Condition Damage set to test it out. Anyone clearing explorables have any advice?

How to Make Money

in Crafting

Drakos.3510

Basically, for -most- of your professions, crafting isn’t going to net much profit. The fact that you’re making money in the area of 30-40s per item is remarkable — for tailoring, you can’t get that much in a single item anymore (I was this morning until the market was flooded with exotics set so low, you lose about 20s per item at the very least.)

I wonder how long the Rune market will hold.

Master Crafter - I am one, and what a pointless/sad situation it is.

Drakos.3510

There’s virtually no incentive beyond getting Legendary items at present. At least, insofar as I’ve been watching, the only way to net a profit in crafting is to gather all of your materials yourself right now.

I’ve watched overnight as all Tailoring Exotic items were undercut so ridiculously that you don’t actually break-even on crafting and selling them to try to recover the costs from leveling it.

Essentially, it may well be faster income to farm materials and sell them, and then buy the items you want until you have enough of a money cushion and crafting boosters to make the crafting leveling process less painful. This is probably the approach I will take with my remaining 6 professions.

Story mode dungeons are for the 1%.....maybe 2%

AC is harder for most people than it really has any right to be for a starter dungeon. That said, once you get used to it… it’s simple enough. Learning it though is annoying. You really have to take it slow and pay attention your first few times if you’re new to MMOs or are… you know, level 35.

Part of the problem seems to be you and your allies have a WoW mentality for this game, which is not the case. There are no tanks. There is no aggro. Your greatest asset is debuffing and disabling your foes to ramp up all of your survivability, as opposed to trying to just heal through it or tank it.

What in mesmers is OP?

Drakos.3510

I can’t speak much on the subject of sPvP. That said… I’m more in line with thinking like other Mesmers here. Our class is good, very well-rounded and requires thought to take down. It’s not so much that we’re OP as it is people still don’t know how to deal with us.

Half our community still doesn’t even know how to -play- us, and most people still complain that our class is too confusing or too weak to get into. So they expect that in PvP and get rolled, and they blame it on one mechanic or another.

Phantasms need to be killed. Period. I do it whenever I see another Mesmer in WvW. Why? Because an iDuelist on the field is more dangerous than anything else the Mesmer can do. Period.

Moa Morph needs to be blocked. But if it isn’t blocked, that’s fine. We mostly only ever use it to counter your ultimate. Which means you either popped your ult to abuse us, in which case… Nullified. Or you were about to die, in which case we had already won and you were wasting our time.

Other than that… it’s just a matter of nullifying our dangerous skills and killing us while we’re doing sub-par weapon damage, which is all of the time. MOST people still look at PvP as a DPS race, and they try to focus the Mesmer down rather than strategically whittle us down.

If you leave all our Phantasms and Clones up, if you don’t cleanse conditions, and if you try to just burst us down hoping we don’t Moa you… you’re going to lose. Our class is peculiar. Get used to that concept.

MOA Morph is broken in pvp. Please fix.

“Oh my god I’m bad and don’t bring/can’t use interrupts or block mechanics. Please nerf other classes to compensate.”

Here’s my suggestion. Pay attention. And if the Mesmer stealths and you’re afraid of a Moa… pop a defensive ability (Most of them last 2secs, which is conveniently the cast time for Moa Morph). Don’t have one? Whose fault is that? Or stealth yourself, if you can. Or run away.

If the mesmer isn’t invisible and begins to cast Moa… Interrupt it.

Most people complaining about Mesmer don’t play them. We can be killed. It just takes more thought than “murder it to death with skill spam” that most players are accustomed to.

Is it just me? or?

I would say, Mesmer -should- be fixed so that all clone-producing skills clear a Ctrl+T targeting off of the player.

I get that it infuriates other players to not always get the Mesmer on the first attack, but that’s our class. If we had non-combat mechanics that straight up nullified other classes core combat mechanics and styles, they would be fixed.

I think the intent of the legendary weapons is for them to be… ridiculous to achieve. Super-long grinds, relatively difficult to complete in their own right that will have other players asking you “Wow, what’s that?” when you walk by and allows you to tell them about the ridiculousness involved.

At least these legendaries don’t rely on lucky drops, unlike a certain Blessed Blade of the Windseeker.

Dungeons are probably fine. Players probably need to learn their class mechanics more, and need to stop gearing glass cannon builds.

I don’t think anyone has enough information or experience yet to make a “dungeons are broken” call. All we can observe is that the bulk of the playerbase is woefully unprepared for the difficulty increase dungeons present (right now)- and part of that stems from how much nonsense they’re allowed to get away with in the regular game as well as general inexperience with needing to control enemies, wear toughness or vitality gear and actually cleanse conditions and interrupt powerful attacks.

Most of you couldn’t name your interrupt skills or condition cleansing abilities or traits.

Right now it looks like most people are content to just zerg their way through content — it’s the most often suggested tactic when a team is losing, “just run back!” and ultimately leads to groups disbanding towards the eighth or ninth death.

I do understand that “those groups are bad and need to l2p” but the real problem is the game doesn’t actively encourage that — instead it’s basically just setting a price on success and letting players decide whether or not it’s worth it.

With half the “we cleared it” people using graveyard rushing to get to the ends of dungeons and explorable modes, it’s bound to make it harder for developers to see what they’ve overtuned for difficulty. Or, if nothing’s overtuned, then they still need to eliminate graveyard rushing and find a way to ease players through the difficulty curve between world content and explorable mode dungeons. Right now its basically “Are you really pro from previous MMO experience?”
