Taimi, our best chance against the dragons?

in Living World

Drebi.1875

Let’s briefly recap (on a high level) some of the things we have learned during the Living World so far about Scarlet and more recently, Taimi:

  • Scarlet was the one to fully discover and learn a great deal about the ley lines (and the magic they hold).
  • Through these discoveries, she undoubtedly learned a great deal about the Elder Dragons, maybe even more so than what has ever been known by anyone in Tyria.
  • In her own words, Tyria will need her someday – and while this quote can be interpreted in a number of ways, I consider it most likely to relate to the knowledge she had attained of the Elder Dragons. Whatever she used or planned to use that knowledge for (insert speculation about her motives) is irrelevant as it is fundamental knowledge about the nature of the Dragons in itself, thus invaluable in not only understanding them but also fighting and protecting against them.
  • Taimi is a young, knowledge-hungry Asura that is obsessed to learn everything there is to Ceara and Scarlet.
  • During the last segment of the latest Living Story chapter, she’s already getting the gist of how the various ‘innovations’ of Ceara/Scarlet work and came to be (e.g. steam/aether technology) – which tells us that she’s one bright kid, possibly way brighter than the person she’s researching.

Now that yet another Elder Dragon has been disturbed and awoken, and the ley lines punctured, all signs point towards a time of chaos (to some extent). We won’t be seeing the full effect of Scarlet’s actions right away, maybe not in full even until the conclusion of the 2nd Season, which gives Taimi ample time to finish her research (to which she can finally devote herself to, after been denied the chance so many times). Given the time, she’s bound to learn everything Ceara/Scarlet knew, and being an Asura, I think it’s a safe bet to say that she will be able to take that knowledge and refine it even further as the story continues.

The way her character has been introduced and written into the story lets me believe that Anet has great plans for her; when you add in all the love that she gets from the community, giving her a major role in this story would only be good thing. Our dear friend and savior Trahearne will possibly still return in full force when the time comes to start thinking about the Dragons again, but I believe Taimi is the one that, in the end, connects the dots and gives us the chance to deal with the Dragon threat in a way that does not end in Tyria’s destruction.

That, or she goes crazy.

Thoughts?

Awesome another useless stat mix added… the only way healing builds are ever gonna be viable for PvE group situations is if they re-design every encounter in dungeons/fractals, etc. which will never happen.

Sigh

Perhaps useless now, but that could change with new content. Don’t be so hasty.

People are so eager to ruin the experience for themselves by raging over the most insignificant things. Get over it and enjoy the content, your frustration is nothing but self-inflicted.

The city got invaded and blown up; expecting to get a perfect replacement for it right away is unfounded. Hell, I’m even somewhat disappointed by the fact that the damage wasn’t greater (that is, I would’ve like for us to completely evacuate to other cities until the settlement at Vigil Keep was opened in a coming patch).

Get on with the program and enjoy the content.

BTW. Why does the dolyak, children, ogre, lighthouse escorts happen every 1 minute, but Moa and Marriner only once per WHOLE event?

Why would he sneak back in only to be rescued again? The same goes for the Moas, there’s only so many of them whereas (logically) there can be multiple families and groups of kids/dolyaks/workers.

Well they sure are taking their time to determine “with whom they will fight and with whom they will ally”. Since he’s been telling us this since launch, I would be pretty disappointed if they didn’t do start to show their faces more in the somewhat near future.

The races of Tyria have already come together to take care of one dragon, but I guess that isn’t enough to prove ourselves worthy yet.

I’m calling the future opening of the gates to the Desert, which will take place sometime next year.

The content released so far support this, with the Labyrinthine Cliffs being explored and Ebonhawke being fleshed out through the new achievements (they don’t time these things for nothing).

If you talk to the guards standing at the gate at the southern entrance of the fortress, they mention how only the Queen can give the go-ahead to open them.

While I think (and hope for) the same thing. I think more likely it’ll have to do with the current LS plot of the aetherblades.

Could be that the Aetherblades are coming from the direction of the Desert and Jennah launches an investigation into it.

How did they infiltrate DR already? Lion’s Arch is an easy target, it being a coastal city and all, but DR instead is not that easily entered with all the walls and everything.

There’s a portal in Ebonhawke that leads straight into the city.

I find your response a bit contradicting, as you’ve provided insights such as “It is literally impossible unless prices considerably drop in the future.” in other threads in relation to this topic, to name just one. Your reaction tells me a different story than what you make it out to be, and thus I strongly doubt that you would “easily get a legendary per a month played now”.

And oh, that sentence there is already in conflict with your previous statements. You now make it seem like it’s the easiest feat in the world, while still having previously strongly argued against it. I guess you just proved yourself wrong too, huh?

I’m not picking a fight here, mind you. I’m just surprised by the change in the direction of you statements and the fact that you completely dodged my point I made with the second legendary (which is the one that matters in this context) and went on to discuss the first instead. Not really convincing.

@ Horheristo.3607

I suggest you take another look at my previous post; all the T6 mats for the second legendary were priced as they are now – totalling ~270g. For example, the lowest price at which I bought bloods was 24s, with most of them at 28-29s As you put it yourself, I, in fact, did not “make it in time” this time around. I say it again: obtained in the current state of the market.

It’s not about jumping the “RNG hurdle”, it never was. You presented a sturdy claim and I simply proved you wrong: it is completely possible to get yourself a legendary today. It wasn’t previously impossible, and it certainly isn’t now either.

I’ve already said that there are no means of acquiring a legendary if you played legit so far.

Well, not quite.

I got my first legendary roughly a month ago (with The Legend obtained from the forge), after which I basically began from scratch again. I didn’t have a second legendary in mind before the prices shot up. Now, with the market in the state that it currently is, I forged another precursor – this time Spark – which I then traded for 290g before the Shores event brought the prices down. Playing the market (with precursors & T6 materials) during the last week has brought me the remaining 100g+ that I needed finish my stacks and Icy Runestones. Now, with only some karma and badges remaining, I’m looking at a second legendary – completely obtained in the current state of the market.

While I don’t deny my luck with the forge (I have theories, though, as I’ve got two precursors in almost an identical way as well as the 154 Clovers with a much better ratio than is widely known), I have soon obtained two legendaries in a perfectly legitimate, systematical way without buying a single gold or gem with real money – and the second in a roughly month’s time, playing only up to 5 hours a day on average.

The prices are ridiculous, there’s no question about it. But I chose not to be paralyzed by it and went on to find a solution, which I also found. You just have to search for ways to exploit the market reactions that we’re seeing right now; the opportunities are there, and even with, say, 100 gold you can make measurable profits in a very short time.

My opinions about the event

First of all, when you write a complaint like this, you’d better provide some actual, productive feedback for it to have any kind of desirable effect. The place felt unfinished? Yeah, sure. How was it unfinished? They can’t make it more “as awesome as the rest of the world” unless you provide them with tips on how to actually improve it. Just pointing out that it’s crap doesn’t help one bit. That’s like calling a tailor and telling them to hook you up with a suit without providing any measurements.

Second, what part of a special one-time event did you not understand? This was an event that ANet wanted everyone to have a chance to experience, and locking the zone to a specific level range would’ve prevented a good share of the community from doing just that. What exactly in this annoys you? How does allowing lower level players to join in diminish your ability to enjoy the event? This is not a case of “skipping the whole content” as the event is long gone already and there is no actual “end stuff” happening on the island anymore. Think before drawing conclusions like that.

And third, I assume you are talking about Legendary weapons which, in fact, are not in any way superior to your current Exotic weapons (and in some cases, even inferior) and thus they are not part of any “linear progression”. They are simply additional skins to pursue for players that so wish; they’re not wanted for their stats.

It’s the same as in converting rares to exotics, 74 and up (tested). The chance of getting a rare seems to be in a similar region as well, so don’t get your hopes up for huge profits in trying to get them.

Official Response: Drop Rate of Legendary Precursors

In relation to the previous post, I just wanted to drop by and confirm that 74 rares work just as well and are capable of producing a precursor. They’re also the best option in terms of cost efficiency – if you’re buying instead of crafting yourself.

Sell the exotics (the conversion rate for me was more like 1 in 4, which was a bit surprising) and recycle rares; you have a chance to recoup most of your losses this way.
