Josh—

Please don’t fret. I didn’t—couldn’t—complete the kitten clock tower, but really enjoyed the fact that it was there, that some people completed it, and that it terrified me. I even called my boyfriend over to have a look at how overwhelmingly impossible it seemed.

A Halloween holiday event is exactly where this belongs—it’s temporary, optional, and fun.

What does it do, this Endless Tonic?

Flamethrower kit with condition damage or power?

On the firearms trait line:
Adept / Sharpshooter / 30% chance to cause bleeding for 3 seconds on critical hits

Anyone else basically pass on the event?

I think this event was like a buffet. Maybe the Halloween buffet wasn’t to your taste. I don’t like seafood, so I’d probably just eat bread if it were a seafood buffet.

Point being, I decided I needed the Superior Rune of the Mad King recipe, so I bought it off the trading post and farmed mats to craft it so I can continue to profit after the event is gone. But I’m never going to finish that jumping puzzle. And I didn’t get into the Lunatic game. The Mad King dungeon was fun and innovative for all the platform jumping between phases.

Take what you enjoy from the game. If this event didn’t do it for you maybe are a future event will.

Clocktower: The Psychological Angle

What kept me going? The truly non-deserving elitist in me. I’m only level 44, so I certainly don’t have much to brag about. But I think everybody has a small superiority complex. I didn’t want to rub it anybody’s faces that I completed the puzzle; that’s just not how I roll. But I did want to post in the “completed Tower” thread on the forums, and I did want to be able to say, if anybody asked, “Why yes, I did finish what may be the most difficult jumping puzzle in the game.” It gives me internal bragging rights, and during the time I was doing the puzzle, that was really important. It made me feel important. It also made me feel (I know it sounds super lame) “special” because I was able to finish it. Sure, lots of others did too… but even more people won’t be able to finish it. It put me in the minority.

That’s what kept me going at it.

I found this post to be so refreshingly honest. To be sure, we should all be as self-reflective when examining our motivations.

Looking over these forums, I have seen blatant elitism, modest elitism, indifference, denial, anger, projection (the failure isn’t mine—it’s Norns and Charrs!) and everything in-between.

This is the psychology of the Clock Tower. The Mad King has in the palm of his hand, and the true terror comes in looking at our own frail egos.

In my view, Clock Tower is not fun [Merged]

It was very appropriate for Halloween. Looking up during that opening cinematic, I felt real terror. Then I died a dozen times and gave up.

Still—congrats to those that did it, I just enjoyed the fact that it was there ;-)

1. Will you or will you not be buying black lion trading company or random number generation materials again?

Yes

2. Did you buy them in the past?

Yes

3. If you would not buy trading post material/gamble, would you support direct to buy weapon skins and what general price do you find acceptable from a business standpoint both as a customer and realizing that they must make money as a business?

No. I think the appeal of these items is their rarity.

4. Do you believe that future events will also be handled with random number generation to make profit based on limited time item acquisition?

No

5. If you believe that the future events will be handled in the same manner, does this realization negatively effect your trust of Arena Net in regard to handling micro transactions for permanent content?

No

6. Did you obtain a skin or whatever it is you were looking to get from the black lion trading chests? From the Mad King Chests?

No, I did not obtain the items I wanted from chests. I had to buy them from the trading post.

Why do I even bother to equip a weapon?

Grenade barrage benefits greatly from the stats on your equipped rifle. That’s why you want to equip one.

Good point there. Whatever I’m using, the toolbelt skills are often some of the most powerful at our disposal.

Right now I’m using Pistol/Shield and Tool Kit/Turrets. It gives me a lot of control conditions to mitigate incoming damage, and moderate dps both ranged and close-up. I can get their attention with the pistol, and if it’s a melee enemy, by the time they close the gap I’ve switched to the wrench and show them what’s up. If they’re still standing I drop some turrets and start dodging, or use the shield knockback.

Point is, there are a lot of ways to play this class, and I find that trying a kit or weapon I may not have been crazy about at first is a fun way to discover new possibilities.

Does homosexuality in Sylvari feel rather forced?

I think what felt forced to you was the overt fawning, but that’s just the nature of Sylvari.

You’ll see that kind of adolescent romanticism highlighted throughout Sylvari storylines.

My suggestion is to enjoy and celebrate these qualities.

Engineer condition damage vs other classes.

I’m only level 50, but I’ve tried running a lot of different specs. I stuck with grenades for a long time because the dps just seemed unbeatable, but of all the weapon combos and kits, I wanted to go back to pistol/shield. I love the play style of firing off shots to build bleeds while blocking attacks with my shield. I can reflect attacks from behind while I finish off the guy in front of me—so much fun. However, as others have mentioned, the DPS is lackluster.

Last night I got sick of aiming grenades while running around and bought a cheap pistol and shield off the trading post. I traited into Inventions for Reinforced Shield and put the other points in Firearms. It’s working reasonably well, but is bolster by the utility and DPS of Hidden Pistols and Rocket Boots. It’s a very defensive-heavy build, but I found it to be pretty fun.

Charr run animation

Now that I think of it, it would be a great racial skill to have the Charr drop to all fours for a temporary speed boost.

Is the slowness of the Charr running animation bugging you?

Drebs.4970

I know exactly what you mean with this—and yes, it was bothersome at first. For contrast, roll an Asura—the animation feels very well matched to the distance being traveled. Why is that? Short little legs.

The Charr are significantly larger with a long stride, and thus the movement feels like it’s in slow-motion. I think the Charr “jog” animation looks pretty believable, but at the point that our character drops to all fours, we really expect he should pick up speed and run.

Speed boosters do help. I’m hoping for some kind of buff in the future akin to a mount that allows for semi-permanent increases in running speed.

This class is just so arduous right now and I think my 1 key hates me.

Weapon Kit - Auto Attack

in Engineer

-Grenade needs a spammable autoattack not Gtaoe. Like nec staff skill 1 + 4 gtaoe. Obv, tuning down it in dmg, or making it trowing always 1 singe grenade, but having to spam 1+aim+move around is a real pain.

no grenades are fine…
other kits auto attacks need to save or preset to 1

But yeah, there’s a clear case for all the kits except med and grenade. Auto-attack? Where with the grenade. The kit revolves around choosing the location.

Grenades are my primary kit on my Charr engineer, and the difference between enabling auto attack and not enabling it is significant. No matter how fast I spam that “1” key I can’t get off nearly as much damage as the auto attack. Also, it’s a saving grace when kiting. Whether its on auto or not, you have to aim your attacks, you just have to do it more quickly on auto.

Why did you roll a Charr?

I wasn’t interested in the Charr too much but started reading Edge of Destiny in the weeks before launch. I generally don’t go for brutish races, but Rytlock’s characterization helped me appreciate how mufti-faceted Charr could be. A few levels of the Iron Legion storyline and I was hooked.
