As far as I know condi isn’t really viable at the moment.
So I’m gonna assume that you’re using the metabattle build (http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Herald_-_Power_Shiro) here.. So this build is pretty kitten strong in 1v1’s and when played to its best will really only lose to good druids and cancer-mesmers. Or just getting outnumbered in general (but that’s a PvP thing not a revenant thing.)
But anyway, the problem I notice a lot when people play rev is that they don’t switch weapons. Staff has a 2 second block on a 12 second cooldown that blinds nearby targets(Staff 3). Surge of the mists (Staff 5) has an evade on it and if you happen to be looking in the perfect direction will get any squishy build absolutely annihilated.
Please just switch to staff when you feel you need a quick burst or some block really fast.
Now to legend swapping. This might seem a little counter-intuitive but you should; if you are inexperienced with revenant play, be going for quantity over quality of legend swaps. Swapping breaks stun and removes a condition, but most importantly it RESETS ALL OF YOUR ENERGY. If you run out of energy on Shiro, he’s kinda useless, you can switch to Glint and you’ll immediately be at 50 energy.
Memorize the skills if you haven’t and now for some random tips…
1) Your auto is seriously scary to any stationary target, if you have no energy and can’t switch, might as well spam the auto, it kinda is a death strike to squishy people.
2) This one I think is the most important for good rev play so read carefully… Glint has NO ABSOLUTE ENERGY COSTS. Chaotic release (Glint Elite) has no energy cost, none of the facets do, everything on glint has upkeep, nothing costs anything. On Shiro your skills cost energy, like phase traversal, or the evasive dodge, but on glint everything is upkeep. So what does that mean? You keep as many facets up as you can. Walking around from point to point? Might as well stack everything, your just gonna switch to shiro when you run out. Keep protection up as much as you can, 33% damage is a lot.
3) If something is too dangerous to fight in melee range, like the immediate aids that the warrior has, kite it out with precision strike (sword 2). Use your dodge to bait out head-but or if some other class bait out they’re burst. Rev is the master of not taking damage while dealing it (looking at you Unrelenting Assault)
4) Now for the most obvious counter to the revenant, the conditions. This is where I’m gonna give some strategic advice instead of tactical and say just try to avoid them. But sometimes I know you just can’t. So… uhh… Try to kill them quick? That’s really all I got, conditions will kill the build, so if you can’t win the fight against some stupid condi mes, get over it and go to the next point. However, there is one other way to fight conditions… this is where I should mention that I don’t play the exact thing on metabattle (and really you shouldn’t either). Change the two sigils of staff to Purity and Generosity. Boom. You’re now condi resistant, not immune though.
5) Abuse phase traversal. Seriously, it’s like you’re a thief.
6) Shiro’s Impossible Odds (the one that grants pulsing quickness) make you auto attack kill downed players faster than one person can resurrect. Might also wanna mention that Impossible Odds are meant for your auto attacks, not anything else.
7) Since I don’t use the build I might as well tell you what else I change, for the rune I run Scholar because it give me power and ferocity, the 10% damage above 90% health is negligible but the ferocity isn’t. If you think you’re decent at rev, run that instead. If you’re practicing, try running rune of rage.
Okay, so please remember tip 2 and you should be good to go. Also just remember any good condi build will have your kitten , so know when to chicken out of a fight.
