A bit related to OP, a bit off topic – I have a question. If Anet were to release the game in russian, would the game be allowed for sale i Russia? It has LGBT content, most notably in the personal story. Not trying to derail or anything, just curious.

Yes it will be allowed why not? There is no problem with LGBT until they start their media or public propaganda, even Dragon Age: Inqusition didn’t has a problem with localization in Russia and what i’ve seen in GW2 personal story did not has much trouble.

And what special case with german or french? Maybe first we should understand differences in size of gaming markets and russian market not so small like “all other languages”. By the way, funny they translate Heart of the Thorn upgrade description, it’s like “give us your money, but we treat you like subhuman”

How many more players will purchase GW2 (and spend money to buy gems) if the game was localized to Russian? How much will it cost ANet to add support for Cyrillic and translate the current and future stories, skills+traits, mechanics, skin names, etc? How much additional ongoing QA and Customer Services costs will there be?

So far, I’ve yet to see anyone offer even back-of-the-envelope estimates that suggest that benefits would even match the costs, let alone exceed them (as it would need to do to be a good business investment).

So yes, it would be good to understand the different markets before claiming that anyone is being treated as “subhuman” because their native tongue isn’t localized

With 1.4 billion revenue and 11 place of all countries in 2016 i don’t see the problem to put at least subtitles, just like do most modern games. So yes, it would be better for all understand the different markets and profit from them.

Unfortunetly extra localizations means delay in patches for everyone. Which isnt very good. Thats why many games with full Russian translation are a separate region with another publisher.

This is was not a problem in GW1 they translate main story, items, skills etc, and later patches releases on english so i don’t see so much problem. This is why Blizzard do better job and treat they costumers on all languages equally.

There’s a financial difference between the two companies. Blizzard makes billions and ANet makes millions. Blizzard can afford to do what ANet can not.

ANet might have translated a smaller game but this game has much more dialog and the costs to run this game are higher

Again, this is was not problem in GW1, just give on outsource text to good russian localization company like Softclub and problem is solved. I know many people who like games like GW2, Teso, FFXIV, Destiny but didn’t buy them until they get russian localization at least subtitles, so they keep playing WoW.

And again, you missed my point about Guild Wars 1 being a small lobby game with instanced maps and lower costs to run as opposed to a full fledged MMO, where the costs are higher and the dialog needed to translate is greater.

But just get a good outsource text localization company for Russian? How about all the other languages I’ve seen people asking for the game to be translated to? Do they all get translated with all the costs that come with it, or is Russian a special case?

Yeah you supposed to socialize, talk, and other stuff, but not forcing to play in party for progress, the true MMO should give different kind content for different players.

As title says i think world champions should give bonus loot based on how long as champion has been alive in the world like we have bonus experience from killing creatures.

I think this is not solve problems with zergs on popular maps, but it will interest more people to explore and find hidden place and champions around the world.
