I can probably get the 680m without exceeding my $1500 budget. I am getting a pretty decent discount. The current build i had listed was only going to run me about $1080.
How much of a difference will the 680m make for performance in wvw? If it could do 20-30 fps then i would probably put in the extra money.

I don’t want “good.” Higher than 15 or 20 fps is workable if i can get that somehow.
What would improve the performance in wvw? Would that rely on the gpu?
I spend most of my time rping or doing dungeons. I do wvw only for the monthlies and when im bored and have no friends online. It would kind of suck if i couldn’t ever do wvw though.
Can you give me some ideas for a rig that will run wvw well enough to compete?

Okay, so here is the deal. I am going to go back to college soon, hopefully. If I do, my dorm room wont have enough space for a desktop so I want to get a laptop that is powerful enough to play most my games, but at the very least, able to play gw2. I am on a strict $1500 budget because thats all the cash i have on hand that i can spare. Will a laptop with the below specs handle gw2 well? How bad or good specifically if you have any idea? I know a small amount about computers, so i think everything should be adequate, so what i am mostly curious about is the gpu. I know nothing about laptop gpu’s. Please give me any advice or changes you may have.

The 6850 is a plenty good card. Its almost definitely not the gpu’s problem. I used that card to play ffxiv on max settings which is far superior as far as graphics go with 50+ fps. Considering most of the people having the issues are using nvidia cards, i doubt the fps issue is based off the cards themselves.
It also would not explain why my game gets noticeably better fps when im on an overflow than when im on the normal server.
I get 6-12 fps on max settings. 8-15 on low. In town and field is the same fps. I use 1600 × 900 i believe. Ive changed resolution. Fps remains unchanged if i raise or lower it.it seems last nights windows update messed something up for the game. I’m not the only one experiencing it.
I have 16 gb ddr3 ram, an i5 processor, and a 6850 for gpu. The game is also the only game running off of my SSD. I have tried running it off the hard drive instead but it made the fps drop to 2-5 instead.
You had the same issue, rockinanakin? I will try a restore after work. Thanks!
I did those exact same steps that the site you linked to has on my own when i was uninstalling it. Didn’t work. Could not install 2.0 at all.
I leave for work in 15 minutes. If I can’t fix the game after I get off work I’m just going to uninstall it. No sense in having a game that I can’t play anymore.
No, I already uninstalled it and it did nothing at all. I still can’t install 2.0, and when i start my pc up now it says, about a bunch of stuff, “This requires .NET framework to run,” and blah blah.. So it was obviously removed. Just can’t install the older version.
If i turned off auto update for windows, it’d never be updated. I’d always forget.
Anyways, I tried to install .NET Framework 2.0, but I can’t. When I use the installer, it says, “You must use ‘Turn Windows Features on or off’ to install or configure Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 SP1”
I figured it meant i had to turn off my other version of framework, so i unclicked that box. It still won’t install. Not sure what it means.
I’m not entirely sure if the windows update is to blame, but it is when the problem started. When I began playing the game, i had the very very common issue of extremely low FPS numbers. In the 10-15 range, constantly, no matter where i was. I then realized that so long as I was in an overflow server, my FPS would be at 40-50 instead. Soo I started only playing the game when i could get in an overflow. Then about 2 days ago, the non-overflow server started working just fine for me. I was getting decent FPS while playing on it. That is, until, the nefarious windows update restarted my PC all ninja-like last night while i was doing a quest. When i came back, my FPS maxed out at 5, no matter if i’m on an overflow or not. I don’t know what the issue is, all i know, is it got worse when windows updated.
I have a 6850 for a graphics card, an i5 something-or-nother, and 16 gb of ddr3 ram. Thats about all i know about the techno mumbo-jumbo, so if you ask any of that, you’re probably gonna get a stupid answer!
Also.. Every other game still runs at a flat 60 FPS for me post update, even FFXIV, which has infamously high computer requirements.
