Limit Unshakable from Champions/Bosses

This will be fairly simple and short.

As it stands now, fight dungeon bosses and Champions are basically a “Bring as much DPS as possible, with a little support and move around”. There is no ability to “Control” a Boss/Champion which really limits the ability to really strategize and makes several skills useless in many situations.

I don’t think there’s a problem with limiting the amount of control you can use at a time on these types of enemies, let’s face it keeping a boss/champ on constant knockdown/stun/etc would be just as boring as running all DPS, but instead of making them invincible, limit control to a certain amount per minute or give the bosses some control breaking skills (i.e. Stun Breakers) that they can use just like the players.

TL;DR – Allow Control builds to be useful in Dungeons and against Champs!

Jumping Puzzles and Mesmer portals

So jumping puzzles aside, exploiting the game in PvE is okay then? It’s optional since you can choose not to do it. It doesn’t affect other players experience. You’re being selfish for saying they can’t exploit. Maybe they can’t play often because of a condition or lack the time to play and don’t want to be left behind.

So I guess those reasons justify it?

Exploiting is not OK, but these aren’t exploits. It’s called ingenuity – people are using the skills in the game to complete objectives in the game. That is normal – they have no advantage in using the portals. They don’t get something you don’t and they don’t get it entirely any easier – they still have to get up there to place the portal. If what you’re saying is true, then the entire Mesmer portal skill is an exploit in and of itself because it allows players to “skip” content. I call it strategy. Part of playing a game is to use your skills and surroundings to your advantage.

With the release of the newest jumping puzzle, this issue has become more apparent. People are using jumping puzzles to trivialize the content. For instance, with the new jumping puzzle a Mesmer can create a portal at the chest, wp, and then run within range to port everyone to the very end.

Can we get a debuff while inside that prevents portaling or at least reduces its range? How about having no wp’s close to a jumping puzzle? How about making it so that the portal skill cancels and is forced into cooldown when you wp?

I’m inclined to agree with the two above posters – in no way, shape or form are players that use this mechanic preventing, harming or otherwise diminishing the game for other PvE players. The only thing I can see right now is that these players seem to be annoying you because it makes you feel like your accomplishment is less. IMO, that is your issue not theirs. Play the game, have fun, and don’t worry about what other players do – the items in the new JP are NOT sellable so there’s no harm being done at all.

I have very little respect for players that seem to treat PvE like it should have PvP-like rules. People do NOT have to be on equal footing in PvE, they do NOT have to play (or complete) content the same way as everyone else. PvE is designed almost as the opposite to PvP, not akin to it.

Aetherblade Weapon Skins

I would prefer it be added as another weapon than a skin (if added at all). Rapiers have VERY different Combat Styles compared to a Longsword/Shortsword. It seems like adding a Rapier skin would be pointless. Imagine players running around with a Rapier skin on any of the Professions and using the Sword skills – bunch of people slashing with a weapon that’s meant for piercing

Has anyone thought that the way the introduced the rapier in the blog post might be hinting at the possible (thought unlikely) instance of a new weapon being introduced?

I heard that Mai and the Aetherblades that use Rapiers have a new animation associated with the weapon.

Ok, whoever keeps bringing up the “1% Linux Marketshare” should stop now. All of those numbers are misleading. In a world where 98% of laptops and 85-90% of Desktops are all preloaded with either Windows or Mac OS X, then it doesn’t matter if I buy a laptop and put Linux on it, it will STILL count as a Windows/Mac “Marketshare”. I have 3 Computers at home – 1 Linux Media Center, 1 Windows “Steam Box”/Media Center, and one Laptop running both Linux and Windows. Not a single one of those counts as a “Linux” share because….. Windows came with them. The Marketshare % doesn’t give accurate details any more then the Humble Bundle Numbers (that default to whatever OS you purchase the bundle on – since I do so at work a lot, it shows as windows, though I install most on Linux)

Market share isn’t always counted from sales. There is a service that looks at about 5000 websites, that sees the information from 33+ million users and can see what OS they are using, there you will see that Linux is used less then 2% out of that 33 million users, and there is more then 1 service like that out there.

There there is Steam, it shows about 2% of their users use Linux.

Still doesn’t necessarily matter. I can’t remember how many times I’ve spoofed my Browser User-Agent, NOT because a website/webapp doesn’t work in Linux, but because it is disabled on any browser who’s User-Agent is NOT set to Windows or Mac (in some cases if it simply isn’t Windows). Not to mention that 5000 websites is pretty paltry compared to the total amount out there. Also, how many of those websites are accessed from Android? That’s Linux (don’t say it isn’t – if it runs a Linux Kernel, then it is Linux). But all you have to do is look at Android vs iOS. Android is known to be selling more devices than iOS (meaning higher marketshare), but more iOS users access the web than Android users making the numbers show iOS as higher. Now, this doesn’t change that Linux is still on the low end of marketshare at all, just making the point that using 1 or even 2 stats alone isn’t going to give accurate results, especially in a world where the average user isn’t even given a choice between Windows and Linux.

Additionally, it is still misleading. I do 95% of my work from Fedora, however since Guild Wars 2 and BF3 don’t work well in WINE, I still have to go to Windows to play those.

Windows and DirectX are NOT the Gods of gaming out there. Windows is far less stable and secure than the big Linux Distros (Ubuntu, Fedora, Linux Mint, etc) and DirectX and OpenGL are pretty much feature parity nowadays.

Not sure why so many games are made in DirectX either (namely Multi-platform), DirectX is only used in Windows and XBox, whereas OpenGL (or some form of it) is used on the Playstation, Wii, WiiU, iOS, Android, Linux and Mac.

I guess my point still stands – there are far more Linux users out there than data suggests, but due to compatibility with certain software, those users always have to go back to Windows for something, which contributes to false marketshare. People are locked into Windows for the time being and that won’t change for a while. Doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be a client.

As someone who is pointing my career in the Linux Sys Admin/DevOps direction, I spend most of my time in Linux…. except when I want to play Guild Wars 2. Please, ArenaNet, if nothing else work with the WINE project to get Guild Wars 2 working well in Linux

I am getting disconnected as well… using an authenticator. I will run a diagnostic to check GW2 for issues. I’m also going to run Wireshark during my next connection and monitor the packets sent to and from my laptop

Unless, that is, packet inspection on my local computer is against the Terms of Use on GW2.

Halloween Events and Mini-Dungeons

EagleDelta.4726

Are all the new events and mini-dungeons in the Halloween update exclusive to the GW2 Halloween events (Oct 22 – Nov 1) or are some of them actual updates to the game I can play post Halloween?

I’m quite busy and can’t always make it online to play during the limited time events.
