Which second profession of choice?

I’m a Necromancer who’s been out of the game for 6 months now.

I’ve decided to jump back into the game but unfortunately I’ve had a bit of a hard time adjusting back into the game.

So I thought maybe playing another profession from lv.1 will help me back into the game, and I’m wondering which profession I’m gonna try.

I’m looking for something that compliments for the weaknesses the Necro has in WvW, PvP or Pve and also provides lot of fun.

Can anybody give suggestions with the reasons why?

Tainted Shackles If enemies move out of range of this ability (600), the bind will immobilizes (3-5sec) them.

This is stupid because breaking the shackles by moving far away would be the counterplay to the skill, but since the opponent is under torment so he would have to make a choice: risk getting more damage and try to move away and avoid the immob, or risk the immob and stay still. That’s the whole fun about this skill. If you were getting immob whether or not the shackles were broken, there would be no counterplay and the game would become all the more boring.

I only like the spectral grasp idea. The rest is meh..

Death magic 25 was buffed. 25 pts in DM with armor that has toughness stats gives you a bit over 200 power which is the equivalent to 20 pts in spite. I think he was going for this

Though you will lose Parasitic Bond (meh) Reaper’s Might (VERY good) Death Into life (meh, needs buff) Chill of Death (VERY good) Siphoned Power (meh, needs replacing) and Close to Death (VERY good)

I run: 30/10/0/0/30 with P/T/V gear weapons are Power/Vit/Crit Damage and have a few precision accessories

My problem is, I just can’t stop some of the insane non-stop over the top healing some classes and builds can muster

Maybe you could get 30 pts in Spite AND 25 pts in DM to maximize your power with a bit of tankyness.. but I think the crit dmg in soul reaping will give you more dps anyway.

DM would be a fascinating traitline for powermancers only if some of its underwhelming traits were buffed/changed.

If people stay on their own timezone that would solve it, those who are up late or doing a all nighter now thats their choice.

Its ignorant people like you that are the problem. My prime time is your night time. GET THE KITTEN OVER IT! I cant be on NA prime time, same with many other OCX and SEA players, and we have no server of our own to go to, so dont pull that bs. NA is not the only timezone in this game, stop being so arrogant and get off your high horse and stop whinging

If you naturally are awake during the night for whatever reason or pulling an all nighter, then that’s fine. If your playing on the NA server and not in NA, well you don’t need to be doing that, simple as that.

Where are the OCX/Asian servers? Oh.. so we shouldn’t be allowed to play the game at all?

Base the passive healing amount on the distance between your nearest opponent.

100% of current value if you have an enemy under 600 range
75% of current value if you have an enemy under 900 range
50% of current value if you don’t have an enemy within 900 range

warrior’s combat sustain is preserved; running away with a GS and returning shortly after with nearly full health is punished.

The term “nightcapping” is in itself a selfish term, because for all you know the people playing while you sleep could be playing at their respective prime times.

ANET should just shut off servers when I’m logged off. It’s so unfair that other people can cap keeps and farm champs when I can’t.

I myself don’t understand why the first ranks are invader, assaulter, and then recruit. So the server ‘recruits’ you after you’ve done a bit of invading and assaulting?

You make good points and I do not disagree with you. I am just frustrated by many personal experiences on my Necro where a warrior can literally retreat whenever he wants by GS 3 away from me, then GS 5 out of range. Both of these remove any roots or slows I may be tagging him with.

I do not expect the entire rebalancing of warrior GS or anything to be done really, but I am just tired of games where the tanky heavy armor class can outrun cloth and leather classes. It makes no sense at all to me.

Because he has traited to remove those. It isn’t free – the skills by themselves don’t do that.
Thieves can also stealth and escape, mesmers can blink, eles can do the same.

Necro is pretty decent at mobility but you can’t expect to be good at everything. A warrior that has a GS on cannot CC that much, so he’s trading that off for the mobility. Also if he’s running away you’ve won that fight. You’ve achieved what you wanted to achieve – if sPVP you’ve won the point, if WvW you’ve driven him off.

Victory =/= kill.

Concept for Main Hand Sword

I’m wondering where you see a necromancer using a sword? From the cannons that I’ve seen and the historic version of the necromancers suggest no such connection. But then again, the sword seems to be connected with everything because it is far more iconic then the necromancer ever was and ever will be.

I’ve seen more examples of necromancers using Maces and flails over swords. But even that is rare. Scythes are not specifically iconic for the necromancer and more so with death. Aside from staffs and scepters the most iconic weapon a necromancer has, and I would argue that its even more iconic to them then even the staff is would be a Grimoire

And I would be all for a Grimoire, aka Tome for the necromancer.

How about: your critical attacks reduce the duration of current target enemy boons by 1sec; increase damage output by 10% if target enemy does not have any boon

Death magic 25 Deadly Strength recently got buffed so you’ll get 10% of your toughness added to your power.

I think this made it possible for alternative power necro trait builds to be available.

for instance, if you gear up with armor&trinkets with toughness as a main stat (knights, or cavalier for instance) and have 30 points in death magic, you’ll be gaining about 200 power. So if you spend 10 points in spite, you’ll be spending 40 points for 300 power(same as 30 points in spite), 300 toughness, +30% boon duration, but you’ll lose 20% condition duration, and traits spite 15 and 25. If geared with armor&trinkets with toughness as a sub stat, you’ll lose about 10~15 power.

Of course major traits in Spite are more geared toward increasing damage output, but if you’re a power necro who’s a fan of staff/wells or just need more tankyness but don’t want to lose much damage potential, i think this build would be worth a try.

Or maybe you could invest in both Spite and Death Magic traits and gain even more damage output.
