Final LS boss help needed

The problem is that the Living Story is supposed to be telling a story. The point of the LS is not to provide a drop for precursors or loot, the point isn’t the extraneous, tacked-on titles and achievements, the point of the Living Story is to tell the kitten-ing story.

Nothing destroys the dramatic pacing of a decent story than an annoying slough through a tediously designed boss encounter. EVERY, single boss fight in the Living Story I have seen has been just that. I’ll grant the boss fights have provided variety, but you can figure out the different mechanics in a minute or so, then after that it’s a long, needlessly drawn out encounter that makes you sick of it long before it is over.

You can grit your teeth and grind through these encounters, but they are not anything close to what would be called entertainment. This content design makes getting to the end of the plot a wretched chore, and that destroys any enjoyment in seeing the story. Which is shame because the story does seem worthwhile, but by the time I finish these boss fights I just want to shut off my computer and walk away.

Now I understand that there are those who like sloughing through a long, drawn-out encounter because they consider it ‘challenging’. It’s a long tradition in MMOs and I don’t expect that to change. The baffling thing is that ArenaNet has shown they understood the importance not letting tedious ‘challenges’ get in the way of storytelling. They showed this with the excellent concept of Story and Explorer modes for the dungeons. People who wanted to see the story were allowed to experience that and those who have the time to spend on tedious grind can do that for rewards.

If anything needed this concept applied to it, the Living Story would be it. The writing of the story deserves better treatment than what the content designers are doing to it.

Exactly this I honestly don’t know how any person could QA this for enjoyment based on AANets own stated principles and have it pass.

As some one who has come back to the game recently I can say that the Chapter 8 story boss is probably the one thing that I am seriously considering quitting over and not buying the expansion even though I am looking forward to what is coming in the expansion.

The mechanics of the boss fight are just plain wrong. It’s nothing more than a gimmick to keep people interested. I play games because I enjoy them and I’m not sure how any intelligent person can enjoy pointless mechanics like that.

And for those of you who think it was easy well good for you and I couldn’t care less what you think. Guild Wars 2 is a game I would like to enjoy but then I continuously find crap like this that only makes me want to quit.

(And don’t get me start on the elementalist, why a class that contols the elements would need to dodge in the first place is beyond me but I can live with that as if fits with the game mechanics.)

So if this is the direction the mechanic for story quests are going then I will seriously not buy the expansion I have better things to do than spend hours every day getting enough skill to be good at a computer game!

I play computer games for enjoyment not to be good at them.

Idea: lets offer up changes to the class (one per person)

I think the issues with the elementalist could be fixed by redesigning some of the skills. i.e.
-Dragon’s Tooth – needs to be homing on your target so it’s not dodgeable.
-Pheonix – why is this even targeted? it doesn’ need to be.
-Ring skills, i.e. ring of flame and the earth dagger one – useless in a game where we are always moving.

I think the skills need to be changed to focus less on targeting (for staff) and more workable when you are always moving and dodging.

Even using discoveries you still need to farm for both cloth and rare crafting items.

I have a level 43 elem that I am currently farming in level 15-25 zones just for the rare crafting items.

It’s making me bored with this game very quickly, and won’t be buying any expansions until they fix it.

And Yes I Know I don’t Have to Craft, But I like Crafting!.

Yeah same thing is happening to me and it’s really annoying as I want to level crafting.

Also found another thread in the bugs forum where people where saying the same thing was happening to them.

I think a global trading post was a really bad idea.
