I think the dungeon design discourages against completing everything.
One example from my experience was joining a group doing AC exp path 3 for the first time. They had never done any AC exp before and wanted no tips from experience or the internet; just wanted to figure it out for themselves. I respected this even though I had completed AC exp several times.
First boss the spider, we chipped away at the spiderlings with many wipes until I basically ended up duoing the spider down.
Next was Kholer. I let them know that he was optional, but they wanted to try. So we tried and they quickly figured out the pull mechanic from Kholer. Still, we all kept wiping, as I still have trouble with Kholer myself. Eventually one member said let’s skip and we did.
Finally at the last boss after a pretty long run we insta-wiped twice from the cave-in or whatever. So I volunteered a way to beat the last boss from stacking at a column where you couldn’t be hit by the cave-in. We tried that and cleared the dungeon.
I could tell that the group of new players were pretty underwhelmed by the experience. They went in not wanting to skip or glitch, but did so because not skipping was just yotoopunitive.
That’s a reasonable request. I always mention if I had not done a path before, or if I have only done it once or twice (takes my slow brain repetition to figure things out).
But the experienced people need to read chat as well. Yesterday for instance, I ran fotm-dredge for the first time. I had run the other fractals at least a couple times each, but never this one.
As soon as the instance loaded I typed, ‘never done this fractal before’. When we got to part with the control panel, I was supposed to activate that. But I didn’t, because I had no idea that I was supposed to.
That’s when I got treated to some classic all caps cyber-yelling like DUDE!!1!! and other panicked displays. By the way, I did activate the control panel and we all lived.
What bothers me in pug dungeon runs, as a newbie, is the incivility that I see from a certain segment of players. There is a kind of rage that some people have in-game that I don’t get. Maybe they have run the same content over and over again so many times it’s not fun anymore; or maybe I’m just getting old.
Some of the names I have been called so far in dungeon runs:
-moron
-troll
-idiot
kitten /p>
and probably others I’m forgetting.
If my newness to a dungeon or the game in general is going to kitten someone off that much, I would rather be booted at the beginning of a run than deal with this crap.
Thanks for all of your comments. These are very helpful. A couple questions:
What is u.s.w.?
With the +30% endurance food, what is the purpose of dodging left then right? Is that to heal you or just buy time?
In a run last night for AC path 1 we tried splitting the group up into 4 attacking the burrows and me (guardian) protecting Hodgins.
I tried to guard him twice, but could not keep the mobs off him. I know this is possible so there is something I am not doing right.
What is the most effective way to protect Hodgins in this part? Kiting? Use wards? L2P?
Any constructive feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.
