This is the very thing I hate in games like this.

why though? It can help you improve ur skills

It may help you improve your damage, not skills. I haven’t done any dungeons in this game yet, but i assume there are more roles than just dps. And if someone is doing their job of controlling mobs, or having to be boon/condition heavy, their dps will be lacking. Then some elitist will come along and slam them for “not pulling their weight”.

I enjoy it as a novelty in games that have it, but they do more harm than good…

Possibly instead of a meter used in battle, there were practice dummies with built in dps meters which you could practice your rotation on. I could see that as beneficial

Guild Wars 2 - is the name still suitable?

Totally agree with the op! The name really isn’t representative of what this sequel is, compared to its predecessor…
Let me make a couple of ssuggestions on what it SHOULD be called…

It’s obvious this game is centred around combat/war-like scenario set across the world. and of late I’ve been quite engrossed in crafting… But it still is the second in the series, so it should obviously be called…
World of Warcraft 2.

Ok ok, that may not work…
How bout this one then… The op specifically focused on the Guild vs Guild pvp as reasoning for the game title
And it’s clear there is a lack of any of that carried over from the first game. Instead we have WvWvW, or world wars if we follow guild wars as a naming template. But it is still the second in the series, so we must have that in the title.. So with that, it most certainly be called..
World War 2!

You just wait for the expansion revealing the true puppet masters of the dragons… The kittens!

Some needed things

As a returning player who got this game near launch, but just couldn’t get in to it. Now returning after the changes i couldn’t agree more with the skill gating. Getting skills as you use the weapon is quite fun and encourages you to try them all for a bit to see how each weapon works.

Locking abilities is plain dumb.

Also locking the ability to collect skill points in the field isn’t a smart idea either. Giving a point to spend early on can encourage the player to think of the depth the character will eventually have, as opposed to just having a handful of weapon specific abilities, giving the initial impression of lack of depth.

The other changes are good though, holding the story missions back so you can level a bit to play them, and the direction given as you jump from objective to objective. These changes no doubt helped me get back into this game
