Also I am extremely sad about dungeons.
Cool thanks for the advice. I’ll focus on exploration for now
Hi all
Just wanted to ask the hive mind a few things. I want to slowly make the move to ascended gear starting with accessories. Having tried many different builds on my ranger I always go back to LB S/A spotter with berserker gear. I just have the most fun with that one
However I’d like a bit more durability so was thinking toughness in the accessories. But before I commit the much gold and many laurels: what’s best?
- toughness/precision/power
- toughness/ferocity/power?
On how many pieces? Is it worth it? Is there something that can number crunch these decisions for me? What would you suggest?
Thank you
Most guides suggest that you use Rabid if you don’t have Sinister. They say the loss in damage is around 5% compared to Sinister.
And in case you will be encountering condi-immune bosses, you should consider switching to a power set because Dire does not have any power stat.
See here: http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/96806-zerk-is-for-casuals-june-2015-ranger-builds/#entry2357891
Thanks for the advice, I will give it a look. I’ll keep my zerker stuff with me just in case!
Hey guys!
I want to explore the option of a condi ranger, having run a LB S/A Spotter forever. I found a build to try out: http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Ranger_-_A/T_Condition
But
But
WHY IS SINISTER ARMOR/STUFF SO IMPOSSIBLE TO GET?
What is this?!
Okay, not impossible. I’m just not there yet and the Silverwastes are confusing. Maybe I’ll grind for it if I like the condi Ranger
In the mean time, what’s the best substitute for the Sinister stat, or perhaps another condi build that betters suits another stat set? I could just make up one, but wanted to pick the brains of more experienced players first
Edit – should probably have mentioned I’m looking for a PvE/Dungeon build…
Condi ranger seems like a fun option I need to explore.
its def a fun option… but SB is not a good weapon for condi either unless your opponent just lets you sit there and spam auto attack on him and stack 50 bleeds lol
haaha yeah definitely dropping the SB
Thanks for the advice
Condi ranger seems like a fun option I need to explore.
Wow, thanks everyone
I feel like last time I was playing all Rangers were about the SB
Though to be fair I’ve been using it today and I’m not a fan… So perhaps this is a good thing haha!
Hello Rangers!
I was wondering if anyone had or have seen any great SB builds since the update. I’ve been using the LB (first with GS then with S/A) since I joined the game just under a year ago. I want to give the SB a go. I have zerk gear and want the build for exploration and dungeons.
If you want to share your favourite Ranger weapons let me know! I haven’t explored my options enough :P
EDIT: Consensus is that SB is a bit rubbish and I am going to investigate condi ranger w/o SB. :P Thanks for the help!

Hello! I am looking for a guild to join! I would love to have a guild to play with; chat over mic or text is fine with me.
In particular, I am looking for a guild that is patient with hiatuses from it’s members. My activity depends on the school year calendar. Not because I’m a student, but because I’m a teacher!
My main is a Lv 80 Ranger. I have a Necro on the way (Lv 52) and a Guardian in its early stages. I play mainly PvE including dungeons (just starting…) but I would love to learn more about WvW ect.
Please post here/send me a message or whisper in game if you think I’d fit in with your guild
Emzi
Thanks for the replies everyone, really helpful in understanding a little more what people want from the lfg descriptions. Also interesting to see your interpretations of them
like the (jerk) category XD
I’d guess that “Experienced” means someone who knows the path that it’s about to be ran as well as the class you’re planning to take to that path. This means knowing how and where to skip so you don’t draw aggro, what build would be proper to use in your team composition, where to stack and how to give your team what your class has to offer, how mobs and bosses work and how to counter their mechanics.
To be honest, never thought what ‘Experienced’ exactly means.
Apart from that, here’s a great guild that is teaching people who are willing to learn how to run dungeons:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Dungeon-Mentors-NoobIf you want, you can shoot me a private message in-game in around 6-7 hours, I will be online and I’d be happy to give you a quick guide through the Nightmare paths of TA.
Ok, I get you.
I’m a ranger, so if you had any advice that would be grateful.
I think I’ve got the Nightmare paths relatively down – it’s just the aetherpath in TA. But thanks so much for your offer! ^^ And I will check out that thread.
Pretty much the topic title, really!
After hitting level 80, gearing up (with exoitcs, way off ascended atm) I decided I needed skins. One skin was the Nightmare Court Guise. So off I go to learn some Twilight Arbor. It goes… well..ish. At times, really fun. At other times really frustrating. Luckily I kept up and no-one voted to kick me (it’s painful when someone new is trying to run back and the majority of the group gives up on them, but I understand why).
So I’ve got my guide and done the 3 paths multiple times (I am scared of aether) but still wouldn’t lead a group. Which led me to wonder, when you see “p2 lv 80 exp” what is experienced? I see some requiring AP but what does experienced mean more generally?
I would also gratefully take tips on approaching the other dungeons as a newbie
Would love an invite! Been trying to earn Deadly Blooms and a friendlier approach would be very welcome…
1. Generally you only want to use a black lion kit on exotics with runes/sigils that sell for a lot on the tp. For most white/blue/green just salvage with a basic salvage kit. For rares you want to check there price on the tp. if they are worth more then 30silver sell them, if they are worth less then salvage them with a Mystic Salvage Kit
2. As mentioned before there is no real good way to collect skins. Its kind of just a preview with wardrobe and then find out how to acquire them kind of deal. However you can receive transmutation charges by map completing the 5racial cities, and Lion’s arch.
Okay, thanks for your advice!
1. Salvage, for ectos and (depending on stat combination) inscriptions/insignias.
2. Get the skins? oO I mean, honestly, since you don’t seem to have any specific skins in mind here, there’s no specific tips you’ll get (for example, along the lines of “that skin costs 5 gold in the trading post but is available for karma, too” or whatever).
3. Go to your bank. Select the wardrobe tab on the left. Pick armour class. Go nuts with the entirety of the skins available in the game. Also, this: http://argos-soft.net/GW2/ArmorGallery/
4. Do not, I reapeat, do NOT ever put freakishly expensive runes in karma gear or gear purchased in WvW with Badges of Honour. You cannot salvage those armour pieces and won’t get the runes back.
Cool medium armour skins… Inquest and Whispers^^ Though for the Whispers one you’ll need to be a member of the Order of Whispers (obviously).
You can preview skins without owning them? Arrrrghhhh! See this is why I needed to make this post. Thanks so much for all your advice!
As for skins then it’ll be about specific ones and the alternative options you have to get them, then? Ok, thanks again!
Right. Ok… I will put a tl;dr at the bottom of this post.
Basically I recently hit level 80 with my Ranger. I’m new to this club, but I enjoy doing lots of reading around gear, builds, ect. However the advice out there is seriously variable and confusing. I think I’ve made my decision though. I’m not concerned over meta builds, just playing what I enjoy as I still have a lot of the world to explore (so my build is PvE focused) and I’m way off any ascended gear so I’m focusing on exotics.
I have bought my exotic weapons, and I am going to buy a set of exotic armour (Berserker) but one of the things I love about games is aesthetics. I want to collect skins to transmute my exotic armour into something pretty (I am easily amused!) because the pretty stuff DOESN’T HAVE THE STATS I WANT [raaaage]. I think the skins I’m going to focus on getting for now are the cultural Sylvari armours (Grove vendor) and the Nightmare Court Armour (Twilight Arbor).
[tl;dr] – So here are my questions, then:
1. What is the best thing to do with soulbound rares/exotics if you do not want to keep them? (Especially the ones I mentioned above?)
Been answered with salvaging – so what is worth a Black Lion kit?
2. What is the best way to collect skins (both those that you can apply with and without a Transmutation Charge)?
3. Do you have any advice you wish someone would have passed on to you when you hit Lv. 80?
Oh also – if you know of a really awesome looking medium armour set please link me!
Thanks guys

If anyone would like to know how I figured out my problem here’s how:
I first used the character creator to narrow down some colour names. I then used the trading post to search for dyes. Not all the colours had matching dyes…
Using the wiki ‘Dyes’ page and the proview option in TP I managed to tweak the colours until they matched my character’s skin/hair enough. I ended up with Midnight Red Dye, Spring Dye and Night Iris Dye. Thanks for the help guys! <3
Hey everyone – thanks so much for all your help! I will try my hardest to find the name of these dyes using your advice
If you hover over the color in the dye screen, the name will show…..
Am I being stupid? Like her skin colour, if I hover over her face it shows? Cos it doesn’t… The dyes I own do, of course?
Edit: haha, ok I’ll try that thanks
Hello!
I didn’t note down the name of the colours I used to build my Sylvari with (picture attached). I’d love to match her with her clothes but no idea what these colours are called. I tried to just buy a dye that looked vaguely similar and it went horribly wrong.
Also – does anyone know if there are any dyes similar in colour to Marsh Drakes?
If there’s any resource any players have for dyes ect. for these kinds of issues, I would be grateful to know about them.
Thanks!
