I was having a similar problem last week. Some update reset my web-browsers to use a proxy-mode, and then they couldn’t find the proxy server. I had to reset internet explorer to fix the problem, which was a pain to find since I never use IE in the first place.

Alright, I finally solved this!

Somehow, something reconfigured my internet browsers to use proxy servers. I reset firefox immediately, but I don’t use internet explorer and hadn’t touched it.

Steam was giving me an error when I booted it up (error 130, unable to load web page), and when I traced the cause of that down, it pointed to the proxy-setting.

I reset internet explorer to not use proxies, and it solved both problems!

I have also tried disabling my firewall and restarting. That hasn’t worked.

I’m using Windows 8, updated to the slightly less-awful iteration, if that matters (8.1, I think it’s called).

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game, and that didn’t help either.

Maybe I’m missing something with the cache? I deleted the temporary file, but the FAQ instructions seems to be oddly edited… it referenced a specific address but then never actually gave it. Perhaps I missed something there?

For the last two days now I’ve been unable to access the Black Lion trader. I’ve looked up the FAQ thread and I’ve gone through the advice; I’m running GW2 as administrator and I’ve deleted the temporary cache, but I still can’t access the trading menu.

Is there anything else I should try?

I’ve recently begun playing this game again for the first time in about nine months. I was never terribly good at the PvP aspect, but I seem to be far worse off just now. I don’t have a good conception of what’s changed, what the meta is now, and I’m having a hard time finding a current guide, so I thought I through myself onto the mercy of the ely forum.

I tend toward the small battleground mist PvP (as opposed to WvW… I’m not sure what it’s technically called), and my problem seems to be… well, I suppose I’m uncoordinated and I have no idea what I’m doing.

I respecced along what I recall working with last time; six points in Arcane, six points in Wind, and two in Water. I have no real idea what I should nab for runes or sigil. Last time I tried, I went with Vampirism runes under the hope it would help my survivability.

As I recall, staff skills are all but worthless outside giant WvW battlefields. I’ve been running scepter/dagger, but I’m thinking of going back to dagger/dagger.

It’s going to take a lot of practice and sucking to work through this, but any comments on what I’m doing wrong would be greatly appreciated.
