Was the Birfrost Aura Effect Buffed Recently?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Story short, I was M.I.A. from Guildwars 2 for about two months to come back and see adjacent Bifrost owners with a personal aura cranked up two to three times their normal brightness. The aura as well is different then the knock off mesmer skill effect auras, its really bright, but not on my own personal character, which is nice as I’d like not to be blinded. Additionally I noticed a bit of a better Bifrost unsheathing effect which is much appreciated as well.

I’d like to compliment this change as it was very long over due though the duration of the foot prints and the lightness of the footprint rainbows still tug at the core of my existence as a Bifrost owner. The big issue is just visibility which was addressed with the aura and the footprint and adjacent rainbows are still not to par!

Let's get serious - State of Elementalist

My number one buff thus far is AoE tagging for elementalists.
What’s with the elementalists limited AoE range for each meteor in meteor shower and number one staff skills, it’s ridiculously hard to tag in wvw. Also why does meteor show still require the caster to stand still in casting, its a death sentence in most WvW scenarios if they they’re not on the move.

What I also find unacceptable is the fact how unbalanced staff skills are, seriously fire is the only dps option? seriously!? Earth does nothing, water is so weak its not even funny and air is also severly lack luster. Staff isn’t close to being DPS-ish unless you manage to fire of a meteor shower and even that has severe weaknesses. Staff Elementalists should have burst damage on CC skills, frozen ground should do damage and the elements other then fire should have their damage boosted significantly, at least +35%. In PvE I have to depend on arcane wave and the elementals to do decent DPS, plus flushing through all my traits for the burst damage skills which chain so slowly. Not only that the fact that staff skills don’t even combo well, there are almost no blast finishers in the staff set to chain off our combos for effect, we only have earth number two staff and arcane wave, even that’s far from easy to use in zerg to zerg fights.

My last beef is the fact that glyph of storms will kill me in WvW because retaliation is so over powered. Usage of that skill in a zerg fight, I’m guaranteed to lose 50-90% of my health in three seconds. There’s no damage cap on retaliation so even tossing a meteor shower into a zerg with retaliation will half my health.

There’s so much that doesn’t work for the staff elementalist, feels like Anet doesn’t understand what to do with it or how to make it fun. Being an elementalist is a lot of work, its not fun like a warrior, that is by far the greatest distinction of the class to date.

Super Weapon Skin Speculation

in Black Lion Trading Co

Exanthematicus.5236

Is that true, that SAB skins are one time and we won’t have a reintroduction of the older skins? I invested hard into them thinking they’d be the next halloween skin items, man, never have I been so wrong. The SAB link:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/september-03-2013/

It feels like they might be reintroducing the skins? Anyone else with insight is greatly appreciated!

However it still means that there’s a problem with connection…

As the title mentions already there’s severe lag and dis-connectivity issues occurring with maddening frequency in Tier 1 JQ borderlands. This problem has been prevalent since or slightly there after the last major karka patch.

More Skimpy Armor Please? [Merged]

yes maybe, No.

Guild Wars has done well with practicability though sometimes it falters in the armors. Anet has designed the armors well to fit the role of the armor classes, though in some areas it could use considerable improvement. Op included a picture of med-class armor, Human T3 which makes sense for thiefs as they are kind of like ninjas, mobility is key versus heavy armors, such as wars and guardians. The Light armor class armors are lacking severely in style/fashion, though the light-armor human T3 is somewhat ridiculous for female chars. Stylistically the Seer’s armor is quite nice, it feels like elite sorcerer gear to a sense though the female bottom embellished lines are ridiculously large. Professional and elite are the two words I believe that should accompany any T3 Armor in terms of design/fashion especially if they cost players 119g a set.

Skimpy Armors are not professional or elite in subjective sense to a characters role in the GW2 universe. Only so few classes could have so much such skin showing before it becomes a stupid sexual gimmick. The T3 human thief whose armor looks kind of like a jogging suit is one of these exceptions or maybe the He’man style norn with tatoo’s or tatoo’d ritual necro. However given GuildWars2 is a business modeled MMO, skimpy/eye candy armor is plausable….. and as such be treated as an unatural armor and be made only avialable on the BL TC for say 1200-2000 gems(if its ever introduced). In all seriousness its hard to take things seriously when a player runs around almost naked and that being said, skimpy armors don’t fit subjectively well into the GW2 Universe. Some exceptions again do apply such as maybe a tattoo’d necro(from GW1 which worked for the character), or aired armored mediums such as thiefs or rangers, though the aired T3 of human lights is borderline dysfunctional. I find myself mixing and matching the chest/boots so as to not look so naked, and to perpetuate a more elite flare with the human T3 light as exampled below. Fashion is exploration of human form and function/flare, which fits in a world perpetuating a older world, 1700s-1900s feel. Skimpy is sexual eye candy without regard to reality and is unnatural to the subjective reality of the in game world.

Overall No to skimpy armors as they don’t fit into the fashion/style of the GW2 Universe. Aired armors for mobile classes, but skimpy is a dangerous term that is so general and so charged it could easily mean sexual eye candy armor which in other mmo’s is used to cover their flaws and dysfunction.

How to Buff Bifrost/Animations=Contrast

in Suggestions

The idea is to create an actual trail of rainbow which follows behind the character as currently the rainbow footprints are rather dim or difficult to discern in bright light conditions. Additionally some sort of rainbow projectile for ele/mes/necro as other legendaries have been receiving animation buffs. These are all suggestions as it sees implementation of legendary animations is at some level happening inside the anet dev. team. Sure there are more deserving legendaries such as “The Bard” that need improvements much more badly however Bifrost still feels a under pronounced in visual effect when compared against Twilight/Sunrise.

In conclusion Bifrost could be so much more, it could truly be what an Legendary is, .. Epic. Bifrost if compared to other staffs doesn’t actually stand out that much more, the aura is literally the only defining feature. Though the staff itself is rather beautiful, the white base works against the encompassing rainbow and somehow de-saturates the visual effect on the staff. I can understand the difficulty in implementing rainbow colours on white or even a mid tone which would work against the rainbow effect on the staff. Though a possible solution is the use of contrast in the brightness of the staff or on the tiny floaty stones to accentuate and give it contrast to pop and stand out in a crowd as a legendary should.

Below is a sample of bright shiny geometric shapes, though they disappear in the light, Bifrost could have some with sided shadows to make them pop in the light.

Unbearable Skill Lag in Tier 1 WvW

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Exanthematicus.5236

Exanthematicus.5236

The title pretty much says it all in which the severity of the lag is unacceptable. Playing a staff Elementalist in Tier 1 is impossible in 60 versus 60 zergs as nothing but skill one on my bar is the only one that will fire off within two to five seconds. The rest of my skills such as static field or meteor shower take in excess of five to ten seconds to even activate rendering me almost useless after the first three seconds of a fight. I’ve noticed my warrior fares far better but only because of a higher hit point pool and skill one on hammer or great sword is effective for them. As this is a technical issue and not a game play issue I wish to voice that this problem effectively diminishes the quality of one of the key aspects of the game, specifically in terms of game play. While the lag is tolerable in 30 versus 30 guild battles, the more intensive the zerg fight in numbers the harder it is to be effective.

Improve WvW connectivity on Fridays

A whole host of my guildies and myself disconnected multiple times trying to enter WvWvW on the Friday night reset. While disconnecting isn’t a new problem for server’s on Friday nights, tonight seems more prevalent then usual. For reference this happened on SoR, entering BG borderland. I know this isn’t an unreported issue however Friday night ques on a Tier 1 server are brutal… .

Second weapon set for Ele and Eng.

Exanthematicus.5236

Convenience is why elementalists should have a second weapon set or maybe four like in GW1, It’s quite irritating to have to switch weapons when there have been better options for doing so without having to tinker around every so often for certain situations. Though as mentioned previously because of the huge weapon skill pool the option to switch should be locked out for elementalists in combat otherwise it would obviously be overpowered.

Bifrost Effect Animation needs Repair

Updating again, so after a bit more gaming and more meetings with other legendary owners I’ve found one thing to add. The elementalist auras don’t intefere with Bifrost’s aura as you suggested Runiir. However chancing upon a group of legendary owners in Lions Arch it would seem that shouts shutdown the aura of Bifrost which is 99.9% confirmed. This also seemed to be the case for a few other legendary aura’s, which I’m not sure as to why. I’ll keep updating upon finding anything else to add to this mystery.

You make an excellent point in regards to the sheathing of legendaries and the bright light conditions Runiir. However as evidenced in that above picture the effect seems to shutdown randomly while its unsheathed in combat or out of combat. Fortunately I was able to compare notes today with another Bifrost owner and we discovered that we would sometimes see the other’s aura when we ourselves couldn’t, thusly our computer’s weren’t possibly rendering the glow on our screens. We also took note when our aura’s shut down and neither of us could see it while our Bifrosts were unsheathed and we were in a state of combat. This leads me to speculate that Bifrost’s glow may be dominated by either of two things. One being an unintended bug or two, possible in game culling as we’ve all experienced in WvWvW.
In regards to the pure bright light bridge that is Bifrost it would be nicer if the light is a little bit more noticeable. From the few Bifrost owners to date I’ve had contact with, the general consensus so far seems to favor some sort of buffering of Bifrost’s visual effects. You make good points Runiir, thank you for responding!

Hello everyone, Anet Staff and fellow Players, as a new owner of Bifrost I’ve come to see first hand some disheartening things about the legendary staff that shouldn’t be. The player aura sometimes shuts down either in combat or randomly when it shouldn’t, though the footprints and rainbow effects still work. The character with it doesn’t glow when Bifrost is sheathed on the players back which is discouraging as it is a legendary. The last and major point of dis-contention is that Bifrost’s effects feel or look desaturated, if that’s the word. The effects are somewhat unnoticeable in bright lighting conditions but easily noticeable in dark light conditions, as well the foot prints disappear quick quickly though that’s more of a minor thing. Overall the thing I’d like to convey is that Bifrost itself is quite beautiful but the effects accompanying it feel underwhelming for a legendary and should be buffed a little to give it that Legendary gusto. It should have it’s own distinct flavor(effect) if you will, like its legendary cousins the GS and shortbow. I’ve attached an example of the aura shutdown down below as I’ve evidenced.

Thank you all for your time!

Legendary effects & Bifrost

Exanthematicus.5236

For legendary weapons Bifrost is quite legendary as with others of it’s class for straight out cost, however in the field of design and effect it feels somehow underwhelming. Well what does that mean?, notice the Bifrost rainbow aura is somewhat fickle as it seems to shutdown somewhat in movement or combat. The aura is also somewhat underwhelming in and of itself as it seems to just be there for the sake of it. My suggestion would be to make it some what stronger by means of adding an aurora borealis tail effect as Bifrost from mythical Norse legends is the bridge that connects Midgard and the heavens. Or Re-emphasis on the effect, the staff design is quite beautiful but the effect leaves me disparaged as bifrost will soon be my first legendary and one I feel strongly that it isn’t quite to par on effect as with it’s distinct silbings the Greatswords/Short bow, but near equals in cost.

Picture Below demonstrates a little of my Bifrost effect beef.
