Still broken, so I wanted to resurrect this thread ( posted this a while ago) The problem still remains, so rather then making a new thread every 3 minutes I decided to bump this one back up in hopes of an official response to at least accept the problem, that way we know it’s being worked on and won’t have to keep complaining.
You are in exactly the same place I was, but then I tried out PvP. the wonderful thing is that PvP automatically levels you to level 80 so you can tell if a class will be fun for you in the long run. I engineer at quit almost immediately, but after a quick PvP battle he become my main. No I don’t don’t like PvP over either of the other two modes (in fact, I like it less) but it’s a great tool for choosing a class.
That said, with a descriptions you’ve given I would say the best class for you to try is the elementalist with a D/D. Warriors and guardians have great melee options, but have little in the way of tactics compared to the elementalist’s tactical options. It is a harder class to use and to master, so it’ll be a bumpy road. I say this especially because D/D elementalist isn’t exactly “competitive” so it might take a while longer to master the elementalist over a warrior.
Thief would also be a good option to try as they have many tactical options and a lot of skills that prevent targeting or hitting in general. Engineers and mesmers are both great late-game classes which is why I recommended you try these classes in PvP so you can see what they can really do. With a mesmer, you can get a tactical melee glass cannon with lots of options and if you don’t care about range, engineer is probably one of the most tactical classes in the game because of their great control weapons and kits, gadgets and turrets (if you don’t mind fighting at range as opposed to melee.) You have to be aware, the 4 classes I just listed are all kind of glass-cannon like so you have to watch your health and learn to dodge if you hope to achieve success. The mesmer, and to a lesser extend the thief both have a steep learning curve so think about how much time you are willing to invest before you need to see your character doing something super awesome every single fight.
Hope I helped you! I would recommend trying all 4 of these in PvP before deciding, but that would be your call to make.
It’s not game-breaking since you can hit the ` key but it is quite an annoyance to remember, especially during large battles in which you want to do everything as efficiently as possible.
Don’t know what server you found this on, but we have the same problem on Dragonbrand
In Metrica Province, there is a skill challenge in which you have to defeat a Hylek chieftain named Utcua. In the server I’m on (Dragonbrand,) Utcua is dead. I’ve attached a picture of what it looks like. It is also impossible to select Utcua, and he has been like this for at least a day now.
Thanks for the suggestions! I was curious about as soldier profession and may try that on the side, but I’m looking for something more control-like for a main (I hate tanking.)
I think I’ll go with your suggestion mulch, I didn’t know that about mesmers and engineers. I also ended up hating the engineer because of the weapon skills, which I still feel are underpowered compared to their amazing utilities (but then again, what are weapon kits for?!) Thank you all for your help and I’ll test some of the classes in pvp now to get a better sense of what they could be.
Same here, I had a level 8 story mission to do and did it when I was level 12, I couldn’t get past the second battle (there were about 4 or 5 in total) without dying a quick death. Sure I was playing an elementalist (which I feel should be buffed a bit alongside the mesmer) but honestly I felt like the down levelling was on an unfair scale. It’s not absolutely horrible, but needs to be toned down just a tad. I shouldn’t feel like I’m punished being only about half an hour or an hour ahead in terms of game time.
reassigning keys is an option, but practice will get you hitting those keys no matter your setup. Even if you switch, it’ll take you time to learn it, just take some time to practice no matter your setup.
I’ve had a problem ever since I started, I can’t choose my profession. I knew from the beginning I was going to pick mesmer, but they honestly turned out to be suicide bomber spammers and damage dealers rather than the control that I thought mesmers were supposed to be.
Can anyone recommend a good class, and weapon/utilities to use for that class that emphasize control? IF it helps at all, I play much more PvE than PvP or WvW.
Thanks for the help!
