Yes i’m pretty sure it was caused by the last patch ! I might try to record it to prove my statement
I’d like to mention a bug where hunter call (ranger warhorn 4) doesn’t damage the gate in COF as well as the burrows in AC it might be structures in general but i haven’t tested it.
So i checked and i can confirm that it doesn’t damage the gate in COF, nor the burrows in AC. Should i post about it in the bug section ?
Hey guys,
I’m a returning ranger veteran and i have been wondering when and why hunter’s call got nerf to not damage structures anymore. I’ve noticed it because i usually run the gate in CoF p1 but also on the burrows in AC and more open world structures. I haven’t seen any patch notes about it and i wonder if it has been announced or if it is just a bug.
Thanks for you kind answers,
Moon
When in the world would you ever be able to ‘maximize DPS’ anyway? I guess maybe in PvE if the target isn’t moving at all…but you will never get more than 2-3 hits off at a time in PvP.
Also for the millionth time, if you remove the leaps, you are removing the chasedown potential. That is just not acceptable to me.
I can totally agree with you here. The problem that sword have is that the pvp and pve community are divided on the matter making it nearly impossible to find a solution that please both side.
On one side pvp players want to keep the sticky potential that sword have not really caring about maximising dps.
And on the other pve players want to be able to max-melee range without reducing their dps.
It seems to me that you are using sword because you want the DPS increase. Instead of changing sword, why not make a plea for a buff to GS auto attack damage.
You only think about one aspect of the dps advantage sword has over greatsword. But you forget sword is the superior dps weapon because of the traits associated with it:
- steady focus increase dps by 10% while endurance is full. This is only possible because sword has 2 built in evades on a relatively short cooldown that greatsword doesn’t have. Even the block wouldn’t be enough to fully take advantage of that trait. you are therefore loosing a 10% damage modifier.
- Predator onslaught increase dps by 10% for the ranger and 5% for the pet while target is crippled. This is THE trait that makes sword the best dps weapon ranger have at it’s disposal because it can cripple a mob for the entire duration of the fight. You would loose another 15% dps modifier with greatsword even if they buff the AA speed.
- to a lesser degree sword increase dps by giving might to your pet which greatsword doesn’t. I don’t have the exact numbers on this one though.
One doesn’t need to cancel mid-animation if they aren’t mindlessly spamming 1111, a problem that effectively renders turning auto-attack off pointless. A bit more thoughtful 1 pressing in itself would most likely render this issue a moot point.
The point isn’t there, even if you take all the precautions you want you will still get stuck in animation while performing the second and 3rd part of the aa chain therefore loosing control of your character. and if a boss decide to attack you while you’re in animation well, goodluck.
As for lowering the DPS of the weapon. Wouldn’t that effectively close the dps gap between GS and sword? Hence, normalize the expected dps of a ranger using one of those two weapons in most scenarios.
I don’t want to sound lie i’m trying to break your argumentation but why should we normalize the dps of the weapons while no other classes have 2 weapons who deal the same amount of damage.

Wow that Charr at the end <3
He looks like a wise king of the jungle
I would love to see this on a p1 lupicus.
Kick kick kick kick kick kick kick kick.
I laughed way more than i should have on this one.
On a more serious note, I would love to see that implemented on some tougher bosses (in new dungeons – one can only hope) as an attack you’d need to interrupt or else you either :
1) slow down the damage output for every class except ranger and thief really.
2) won’t be able to dodge the next attack that could one shot you
It might be hard for pugs to adapt but they will eventually creating new strategies anet hasn’t exploited yet.
OK i have to admit this is a pretty nice spreadsheet to start working with. Need to check for mistakes first then I’ll fiddle with it!
ok this one should be theoretically be better but not cropped sorry.

Hey guys so I’ve been leveling a little and fierce asura warrior lately and i could use some fashion tips on a project of mine. So I’ve settle on the aetherblade chest with the carapace shoulders but everything else is up for debate. Also i suck at heavy armor dyes
have a great day guys.

Get a kit. Get all gem store armors. Get all culturals. Get on my level.
Hehehe. I love the new medium coat.
This i need all culturals now, my quest for fashion is never going to end. Got to love horizontal progression !
The new medium coat is indeed awesome, i feel there should be more skirts and pants for medium armor we only have leggings :’(
I totally understand your point and i think it’s a great guide for all those new ranger that want to start develloping their sills aswell as veteran PvP/WvWers that don’t know how to handle PvE. Continue the good work !!
And you’re right, I use the 4/5/5/0/0 build when badly needing reflects either cause i’m soloing or we have an mesmer/guardian that’s not familiar with the encounter at all. Swapping traits on the fly was really my favourite part of this update
Hey Moon here,
I’d like to point out a few things :
I’m doing math atm moment on runes of the ranger vs scholar runes. From what i’ve calculated which might be wrong and is not complete yet, scholar runes with perception sigils still outputs better dps by 1,5% than ranger runes with bloodlust. However, this is based on full stacks and without stack the dps difference is hugely in favor of ranger runes (~ i estimate that to 5% but i still need to do precise calculation on the matter). So scholar runes are still better in my opinion if you know you’re not gonna loose your stacks, though you have to keep in mind that it is high effort for low reward (1,5%). SO you’re right to recommand your build to the majority of players just pointing this out for min-maxers.
The other thing is completely unrelated and is only a suggestion. You may want to include the 4/5/5/0/0 build as it is really usefull for soloing arah and/or pugging it. It i the build i swap to for lupi and alphard solo (yeah ranger can solo those). It is highly situational, but worst mentioning to make the guide more detailed to cover multiple areas of PvE.

Finally posting this !!!
My elegant yet fierce ranger. For the love of fashion, i accept any kind of donation to equip her with howler and fractal sword
thanks alot
followed you on twitch too btw.
I love all your fashion challenges this time i’ll make sure to enter
i got the song at lupi stuck in my head i hate you miku :p
Now if you give me the title i might forgive you. Nice casual run, i’m working on P2 myself but still have some troubles on “alphard” grrr
If I didn’t like drinking hard spirits (Wild Turkey 101 and Cruzan 151 being my choice drinks right now) so much, I could learn to mh sword solo lupi and the like… Most other encounters I have played through (I don’t do fractals) in PVE/Dungeons I haven’t had a problem with the sword. So, yeah, it is a L2p as far as I see it… which is why we will have to agree to disagree.
There is at least one thing we have to agree on and it is that in general PvE sword isn’t a problem, it just has a steeper learning curve than any other weapon the ranger has at it’s disposal. Therefore we don’t completely disagree, i think we have to make a difference between two types of play we encounter in Tyria : the general PvE world, dungeons on one side and higher skill content such as fractals and solo dungeons on the other. TLDR : sword “problems” only applies to a niche of players.
For the Op, i don’t think sword should get you killed either because either you know you can fight a certain mob/group with sword or you know you can’t thefore you should not use it (that doesn’t mean you can’t train to make what was inaccessible to you, accessible)
Tbf, most of the difficult sword fights are in Arah and Fractals. It’s not hard to look good with the sword in easy content. Many of the fractal fights involve max melee range, circle strafing, backwards kiting and running in and out of melee range. The ranger sword is terrible at doing the first 3 I listed.
No other class loses DPS when re positioning or getting ready to dodge.
Your post resume my feelings about sword to the perfection. +1
I wish i could circle strafe, pls Anet !!!
Sword is getting you killed? Sounds like a L2p issue. Doesn’t get me killed at all. Never once has it caused me to die. You know what has? Bad timing on my part. Not knowing the encounter. Doing things I shouldn’t have. Look in the mirror and you’ll see the source of your problems.
Well i’m sorry to inform you that you’re wrong, sword getting you killed isn’t a l2p issue even though there are tricks to prevent yourself from dying (weapon swap, learn boss mechanics and dodge 2 sec earlier) sword root is still a problem in high level PvE. If you’re dying at Cof or in TA in a five man team then yeah you’re doing something wrong and should train harder to master the sword. On the other hand here are some exemples where sword will kill you:
- try soloing Lupicus with sword only, yeah sword will kill you because it roots you and therefore leaves you vulnerable to swarms.
- try killing alphard with sword where you NEED to max melee range or else thanks to you your whole party is gonna wipe.
- try to solo bloomhunger where the root will also kill you (you can’t always weapon swap to dodge you know)
These are only a few exemple by the way …
Sword is my favourite weapon. I use it exclusively even in high level fractals however even the devs state that swords needed a fix because control over your character is still the most important thing a player should have.
Also no need to blame the Op like you do, instead think of constructive comments that can help him improve.
Have a great day,
Moon
TBA still better then the “official” ranger world record :p even though i now several people that destroyed that time
i wonder what a dredge look like with a giant bobble
who knows maybe they can be even uglier than they are already …
nope the trick is to swap it with another utility when you used it, you still get the bonus for 10 -15 sec i can’t remember exactly cause even dead it still procs it’s effect (got to love bugs) and therefore it is back up for the boss
I main ranger and with meta build it’s the 3rd fastest class to do the gate now that FGS + blink has been fixed. I average 4 seconds to 6 seconds. The way you do it is run to the gate pop frost spirit + jungle panther F2, switch to jaguar use warhorn 5 for the 6 might stacks and 7% damage boost. Fast target the thing you need to destroy, use warhorn 4 then proceed spam sword 1 under quickening zephir and sic’em. Done, once you get the hang of if i’m faster than my warrior. Thief and ele can still do it faster though.
I totally agree with you, especially wwith that new skirmishing trait wich give 15% chance to block incoming projectiles. 15% chance isn’t something we can rely on, hell even 100% chance for 2 sec when dropping under 50% would have been better but that’s another discussion. I feel skirmishing is our " go in for damage option " since the stat are precision and critical damage, however except for the minor traits, which are actually better than then major traits by the way, we don’t get any self damage improvement.
Now that warrior got a trait that improve their attack speed while wieldind an off-hand weapon. I think it’s time that ranger get buffs to power builds and attack speed increase throught traits would fit ranger perfectly. What do you guys think about it ?
haha you even put it on the forums XD well it’s all thanks to your patience and your wonderfull teaching. Now the time is to more practice and who know one day i might get a lupi kill record like you
really well done, next goal master the secret evade technique ?
I’m your favourite<3
Lies I’m noob’s favourite
though i agree he is a really really good teacher !
Yeah i agree, though i want my norn to be an intermediate between the skinny humans and the massive norn ladies people make. Sadly, there is no intermediate because it’s either you choose the skinny and skimpy or you choose the massive and warrior look.
I’m one of those person who prefer T2 over T3 for exemple
haha, she was the exception shhhh don’t shatter my dreams like that :p
I guess i’ll have to try later this week, i’ll post screenshots of the before/after transformation if it can help anyone. For Science !!!
It’s just annoying that a gem store armor that your bought for quite the gold clips don’t you think ?
If you want an idea of the armor i’m looking for, you check out DeSade human ranger here : https://dviw3bl0enbyw.cloudfront.net/uploads/forum_attachment/file/129451/gw193.jpg
All credits to him for his wondefull lady. My is quite different though not the same hands, shoulders, dyes, …
Hello, i’m looking for your advice on norn morphology here.
Lorewise, my wonderfull norn ranger was born from a human father and a norn mother. She has always been secluded from the norn community and went on a mission to reclaim her family reputation, by succeeding in “the great hunt” and then being one of the heroes that defeated Zaithan.
Her bodybuild is quite normal i would say, and she is the smallest a norn can be. While looking for the perfect armor set to transmute my ascended armor on, I fell in love with the magitech pants and shoes. Before buying an armor i like to visualise it through the pvp locker, and i found that the skirt of the armor clips in the hips. To match that i’d also like to go for the Kodan chest piece which also bugs me at the hips since it goes way to large.
My question IS i’ve gotten my hands on a total make-over kit would choosing the slimest body build help my case or the armors are only based on the race ignoring your body build ? Any screenshot would be greatly appreciated.
Hello,
A few guildies and me are really strating to get into dungeons as an organised group, we’re speed running every dungeons except arah. So i was wondering if i could get some mentoring to get a good start about teaching our group about doing arah in an efficient way.
I’m looking for a mentor that could teach me the ins and out of Arah, but more importantly things about group composition and time optimisation.
I’m willing to put some time into it and i’ll be listen to your wise advices.
I have teamspeak and skype so there is no problem about using those.
I’m maining ranger on EU servers (sword/warhorn,dagger) not a bearbow !!
@Allie Murdock
As you said in you’re introducing paragraph from the summarized feedback, some people might disagree with the change you proposed. I’ll take my time to explain why i don’t agree to some points and won’t talk about the things that i find could work well if they are implemented. So this post isn’t just black since what i don’t mention is perfectly fine.
PvX
Weapons :
1. Ranger weapons sets are currently lacking in focus and should be redesigned so that weapon slection synegizes with specific playstyles.
– As good as the proposition seems, focusing the weapons too much will cause a decrease in build variety, rangers are one of the few class that can build hybrid power/condi, it would aslo caus armor sets like celestial that benefits from multiples sources of damage useless in the long run.
2) Shortbow : taking what i’ve said in consideration i fell shortbow should stay more hybrid than full condition, keeping good power ratios as well as some condition covers.
3) Sword : proposition are great except the reversal of s2, as said in the opening post ranger are a skirmishing class focused on sustained dps that has one of the best single target dps in the game. If we follow that rule s2 should stay as it is now because it is the only one handed ranger disengage.
4) Please don’t remove my birdies !!!!!!! or find a way to implement it somewhere else because it is taking away one of the ranger best buff, we’re here to improve the ranger not nerf it
Wilderness :
1. Wilderness experts should be the masters of poisons. Therefore, Rangers should have the most potent poisons available.
1. Rangers should be given some trait options to improve poison in various ways (extended duration, improved healing suppression, higher damage values, bonuses against poisoned foes, etc.).
YES PLS
PvE
Marksmanship:
7. XII. Remorsless – as a grandmaster tier it should be worth speccing into, the idea of applying vulnerability on a time base instead of a the beginning of the fight is great however the numbers listed are really sub par (3 stack for 6s every 16s for a grandmaster tier really ?). Either reduce the cd to 10 sec or increase the number of vulnerability.
Nature magic:
2. Weapon swapping should stay a skirmishing thing.
Everyone wont agree with me but feel free to tell me why and keep the good ideas coming. More importantly thanks the dev for taking the time to read everything.
no one can answer me ? :’(
I was wondering if there has been any update about infusing light of dwayna ? provide links of your sources if you can.
I really wish i could infuse it since it cost quite a lot for me to make and i’m getting to fractal 30 + while not having my ascended armor yet.
Hey thanks for your input guys it’s giving me ideas which is awesome.
JorneMormel : you’re clearly right when you say quick draw is useless in the build, it was there mainly if i chose to go for perplexity runes since it made the interupt on a 15 sec cooldown. So i dropped that and took empathic bond for better condi removal.
This conbined with antitoxin runes should be more that enough to handle enough conditions .
Sevans : Since i decided to go for runes of antitoxin, Sigil of battle is a great idea since i can now have a potential of 11 stacks of might (3 from mighty swap, 3 from sigil, and 5 from the runes)
thanks for your help once again.
thanks for the advice however that means i’m less competitive in the mean time and i don’t mind spend 20g on sigils and runes even if i have to change them in a month or two. And i mainly swap pets really often beacause weapon swapping is normal and naturally obliged if you want to keep some pressure on your opponent.
Hello my fellow rangers,
I’ve always been a fan of the ranger and even if the class isn’t in a good spot at the moment in term of balance, i still enjoy playing it greatly.
To introduce the build i’ve always strayed of meta game build, and experiment with builds to fit my playstyle.
I call my build the swapper, warriors swap weapons to get buffs, ele swap attunements to do the same thing, so i figured rangers could swap pets to gain some utility and damage. Since we all know pet AI is faulty and need to be reworked swappy pets on cooldown has the advantage of keeping your pet alive.
Shortbow has always been my all time favourite and i’m not ready to give it up.
here is the build :
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fMAQNAV8fnAVEZZWQKWgaZAppgTMPmCDhRePSP2TEL4UF-jUBBYhCyUFApoFRjVLjIqWvEDA-w
Pets are use for cc, I swap “protect me” often depending on the situation for LR or signet of renewal.
The build is used for wvw roaming and i’m having a hard time choosing what sigils and what runes i should take.
I’ve already restricted my choices and i would like you guys to gives your opinion on what should i take or what not. Do not hesitate if your see something usefull i could have missed.
Shortbow :
Here sigil of earth is a must have.
Sword and torch :
- sigil of geomancy with sigil of malice ?
- sigil of smoldering on torch ?
- sigil of torment considering the crit chance and for condition cover ?
- sigil of intelligence or hydromancy are also a possibility.
Runes :
- Rune of antitoxin for might stacking with pet swap and condition reduction ?
- Rune of perplexity as it is OP at the moment and can be aplied every 15 seconds with the bow interupt.
- Nightmare runes and undead runes are possible but i like runes with an added effect.
I’m also not sure about the trinkets and i may consider going straight apothecary.
Thanks for your help.

I took the liberty and counted ALL votes till svracak.9671. You guys are just too fast for me.
As it stands the results are now:
Elementalist: 230 Votes (22.66%)
Necromancer: 162 Votes (15.96%)
Engineer: 132 Votes (13.00%)
Guardian: 13 Votes (1.28%)
Warrior: 29 Votes (2.86%)
Thief: 74 Votes (7.29%)
Ranger: 299 Votes (29.46%)
Mesmer: 76 Votes (7.49%)
Total: 1015 Votes (100%)If there is any interest I could give numbers on how often a profession was ranked 1. etc.
That would be awesome if you could do that i’m quite interested
1) rangers is in need of the most help at the moment
2) necro are second
3) third is elementalist in my opinion
I’ll try that tomorrow and get back to you since as you mentionned i changed my email address.
I’ve now linked my Guild wars 1 account to Guild Wars 2. The issue is that first i haven’t received the teleportation orb wich isn’t a problem since i went in lion’s arch to get one. When i’m in the eye of the north and talk to the guy (can’t remember his name) nothing happens.
So i went into my account details and it clearly says that my accounts are linked.
If i am doing something wrong i’ll be happy to have your opinion, or is it a technical issue i don’t know….
Thanks for your answer.
Calmed down, and while the nerfs are annoying and disappointing, my biggest ire is still with the fact they are focusing on Nerfs and fixing empowering bugs and completely ignoring the other bugs that are a detriment to the class.
I totally agree with you, my main concern is not about this week’s nerf but about the fact that they are nerfing the class before fixing it which i find totally counterproductive. It clearly puts the mesmer into a series of “niche” builds while the other class have hundreds to work with.
My problem with this patch notes is that they are nerfing things that works before fixing things that doesn’t, which leaves us with a only few amount of builds possible. I always love to play something different from the " standard " build but I think Anet doesn’t ake it easy for us (not impossible). One of their principal goal was to let players have a wide range of builds to choose from and are doing the opposite to mesmers.
I would love to play a sword-torch mesmer but it isn’t a possibility at the moment.
Does anyone know how to get in touch with arenanet on thois subject i have some questions to ask ?

I hope I will enjoy my time with you guys !
