Game hangs after I press play

After logging in, I press play.

Launcher screen disappears. Game hangs. I can hear the music, but can’t access anything else. Screen hangs. Can’t move cursor to task bar. Cntl-Alt-Delete brings up Task Manager, but I can’t click anything in it. Only option is to either power cycle or hit the Reset button on the blue screen.

The game still has files to download, but the Play button is active.

Why I just can't seem to get into GW2

My apologies if you are already aware of this, but the LFG tool you don’t have to ask to join a group. When you see a group posted and hit the join button you get added to the group. No chitchat or anything, just click and you are in.

I did not know that. Thank you for the info.

Why I just can't seem to get into GW2

So I’ve had Guild Wars 2 for a couple years. In that time, I’ve leveled to 30.

Guild Wars 2 is absolutely beautiful to look at. I enjoy the detail, I like the story, and the gameplay is interesting to me. Some of the outfits in Black Lion are really cute! Plus I like that I am not under pressure of a dps meter! (I hear that’s changed.)

So this is what I think has kept me from taking the plunge. I am fully away this is only my opinion and I speak only for myself. I expect most to disagree with me.

Now, that disclaimer said…

- No world chat. The world seems so empty when people aren’t talking. I know, a world chat would devolve into trolling and nonsense. But it can be fun and makes things a little more populated even when people aren’t around.

- The wonder if GW2 will still be around. Reading the forums makes it seem like the game is dying. Should I invest time in an MMO that won’t be around for much longer or is not supported?

- No random dungeon matchmaking. Yes, burn me at the stake. I’m shy and don’t like to make a group or ask to join a group. I’d much rather the system make a group for me.

- Professions confuse me. Do you really have to guess what mats you need to learn a new recipe or has that changed?

Beyond that, I really like the game.

Still regular release of new content?

Forgive such a noob question. I’ve had GW2 for a while but rarely play it.

I do remember when GW2 came out, they were releasing a fair amount of content on a regular basis.

Are they still doing that?

RP server

What is a good RP server? I don’t rp myself, but it’s fun to watch others really get into the game, so I was hoping to find an rp server to lurk on.

Pity the game has no real “world chat”. Gets lonely out there sometimes.

Can someone explain profs to me?

Total noob, but I don’t how to find new recipes in professions. The interface seems to make me want to “guess” which mats will discover a new recipe. Is this right or is there some other way to go about it?

Story mode dungeon and World Chat

Noob questions. (Yes, I’m a noob.)

I just learned of this “story mode” dungeon. I guess once you reach a certain level you can enter a dungeon by yourself. Perfect for me since I’m kind of shy and haven’t been able to get into a group yet, so I was very excited to try one out and see what these dungeons were like.

Is it true that these story mode dungeons do not scale to the party size? So if I enter the dungeon by myself, I’m fighting a boss that is scaled to five people? I did a boss recently and it took forever (and a few deaths) to kill him.

On another note: World chat. I quite like World of Warcraft’s world chat. Makes the world seem larger even when no one is around.

I know GW2 has a Map chat. Is that only for the map you are zoned to? Or does it actually cover the entire world? If it doesn’t, does GW2 have a world chat option?

File loc after Win 10 reinstall

Had to reinstall Windows 10 after latest update screwed things up. (Thanks, Microsoft.)

All old files were moved to a folder called Windows.old

Where are the Guild Wars 2 files? Can I locate them and simply move them? Or do I have to download the whole thing again?

End game for new expac

I know this has been answered before, but I don’t recall what was said or where to find it. So forgive me for asking again.

Has anything been done about end game in the new expansion? I’m one of those who needs something to strive for. Not necessarily “better gear”, but at least something. This is what keeps me with WoW. As frustrating as the company has been with WoW lately, it has something that I can continually be reaching for.

I do hear people complaining about GW2’s “lack of end game”. Is this being addressed?

New player here. Had the game for over a year before I really decided to play it.

Only level 25, so still digesting. Game seems to be feeding me new things at a good pace. I’m not a great MMO player, so I don’t want a whole slew of stuff thrown at me. So far I’m keeping up.

Crafting is overwhelming. I think I’m getting it, but when first presented, it’s waaaay too much and too complicated.

At first I liked the little pointer that told you where to go. But as I progress, I find that it is making me a lazy player. Rather than going out and exploring the world, I’m just following the little arrow. Yes, I have the freedom to go off the path. But….the arrow…it’s beckoning me!

I think after a few levels you can get rid of the arrow. Instead, if the map simply showed you where all the hearts, vistas, and POIs were, that would be enough. Keep the map shrouded, but show all the location points would encourage me to explore without the handholding.

Guild wars 2 moving towards the holy trinity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Faline.8795

Faline.8795

I’d like to speak as someone who is new to Guild Wars.

I came from an MMO that used the Holy Trinity.

Today I fought my first big boss in Guild Wars. Let me say that the fight was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!

It was a total cluster, unorganized, running around, trying to fight and stay alive, and it was the best battle I had ever been in in a video game!

Why?

Because that is what fights in real life are like! March in with a plan, 10 seconds later the plan goes out the window and you’re fighting for your life. Watch the opening battle in the movie Gladiator. Yup, that’s what it was really like. (No, I was not there personally!)

I’m running around, dps the boss. Someone died. Someone else died. I’d better get down and revive them or this boss will kill us all. The other guy is dps’ing, so the boss isn’t interested in me. Okay. Revive…revive. Oops, the other guy is dead and now the boss sees me. Run!!! Now I’m dead, but someone else is dps’ing the boss. Revive…revive. I’m up, now to finish healing the other dead guy. Oh good, we’re all up now. Dps the boss. And the boss is dead.

My gosh! What a fight!!!!!

Now, if we had the Trinity, some guy would keep the boss focus and all I would do is stand around and try not to steal threat. Oh, okay, here is a boss special move. Counter it and back to dps’ing.

Those fights are boring.

From what I’ve seen, Guild Wars doesn’t have a problem with the fight. The problem is the player who doesn’t think beyond pew pew. The good player knows to pew pew but not so much to attract all the boss’s attention, and also when to hep his comrades.

2 Noob questions: Server time and end game

in Players Helping Players

With the expansion you’ll start earning mastery points once you’re max leveled. You can use mastery points to level various abilities or features depending on which ones are important to you and will help you play the content you enjoy.

That should be interesting to try.

Seriously if you are looking for organized raids for BIS loot every night, this isn’t your game so don’t bother rushing to 80.

Not BIS per se. Just a challenge. I’d hate to defeat The Big Monster and then be done.

Clear noob questions, so please bear with me if you have heard this ten thousand times. For me, it’s the first.

1) Does server time actually mean anything? The server I seem to be on had its server time something like 8 hours ahead of where I am. Does that really matter? Am I playing when everyone else is asleep? Or is server time like GMT? Some common reference point? If so, then why so far ahead since the server is an NA server?

2) Coming from World of Warcraft (you can already see the question coming), how is end game? I’ve been conditioned to “keep improving” my character, but I understand GW2 doesn’t have a gear chase, per se.

Played Ranger. Feel lost. Don't play much now

in Ranger

Bought GW2 to try something different. Rolled ranger because I wanted a pet and like to pew pew from a distance.

Ranger is fun, but the game seems to just dump you in there with little to no instruction on how to play. The pamphlet that comes with the game gives you a link to a non-existent website. guildwars2.com does mention a wiki, which isn’t terribly helpful to someone who doesn’t know much already.

I think I reached level 8 or something before it just stopped being fun. No real idea why I should choose a fire trap over a spike trap, how F2 works or how to change it. Like I said, the game just throws you into the water.

This isn’t a rant against GW2. I have no intention of quitting. I’ll keep at it. But truth be told I haven’t played in over a week because I just don’t know what to do with my class.

Some instructional quests for the noob would really have been helpful.

What do you want out of end-game?

I read a lot of people talking about the new power creep and having to grind new, more powerful gear. They say this was against the original philosophy of GW2.

I know virtually nothing about the game, so I was wondering:

If there is no further advancement, what did you want to do once you hit 80?

The 60 bucks down payment for one thing. If its anything like GW1, they’ll release an expansion every so often, which brings in more money.

That would make sense.

When you say expansion, what do you mean? A full-on expansion? Or a moderate patch? And how often do they release expansions?

I am absolutely new to F2P games, so this is a seriously noob question.

Subscription-based games obviously keep the capital coming in through monthly subscriptions. How does a F2P game like Guild Wars make money to continue development.

I do know they have microtransactions, but do those really make the company enough money? Do the amount of microtransactions available increase?
