So far I’ve been doing some DPS tests and crunching some numbers, and for PvE I would strongly suggest that you completely forget about condi damage (as much as it breaks my heart). In all of my tests across all build my condi DPS was always half of my power builds’ DPS, at best. Single target i was pulling around 4k dps with s/a (zerker) and with m/a i was only pulling about 1.5k dps (carrion, no sinister stats to test with). Against grouped enemies, i was getting around 6k dps with s/a and only 3k dps with m/a.
I was using Shiro/Glint for power and I tried a few combinations for condi but found that Shiro/Glint is still a great choice for condi (for nefarious momentum).
Also on a side note i was pulling roughly 7k DPS with hammer against multiple foes. So… that was weird. Haven’t done any tank-ish builds yet (with upcoming raids) but I’m sure I could get some good stuff with ventari/glint or jalis/glint with staff + sword/shield
Unless I’m blatantly missing something, there’s no real way (other than literally crafting it) to get gear with sinister stats on the beta characters. In future beta weekends can we get sinister gear added into the gear pool? Have some builds involving sinister gear I’d really love to test.
I’m aware of both of those things, but it still worries me looking at raiding in previous games.
I’m not sure if this post exists somewhere else and if it does I’d like to apologize, but after hearing about raids in Guild Wars 2 I’ve had one huge nagging question that might absolutely kill the game for me.
Will the necessary components for legendary armor be RNG based or will I be able to earn them via tokens, points, or by completing raid specific achievements or events?
If legendary armor is going to be RNG based (i.e. farming a precursor) then my interest in Heart of Thorns just fell through the floor. I’ve been playing since Guild Wars 2 launch and I have never found a precursor, ever. Needless to say my luck sucks. So if the acquisition of legendary armor will be based on my favor of the RNGods then I may not even bother to raid. I’m not saying I’m not willing to work for my legendary armor; I’ll be happy to put in 1,000 hours+ into raiding. I’m just saying that I’m not willing to roll the dice every weekend to have the chance to get lucky get the shoulder strap I need or whatever. Give me a tangible goal to work towards and I’ll be happy.
I know there was a blog post that mentioned the clarification of raid rewards in the future, but I was just wondering if anyone could confirm/deny this?
(edited by Farghost.3015)
I’ve been playing since GW2 original beta and have been raiding for a decently long time. With the announcement of raids in GW2 I thought I’d test the waters to find a guild who is mainly interested in gearing up, preparing for, and obviously doing the future raid(s). As mentioned above, I’m an experienced raider that did most of my raiding in LotRO (Lord of the Rings Online) and have had a few server/world firsts across these two games. I have all professions at level 80 but I prefer to play Warrior for speed runs and Necromancer for challenging content. I will be running DPS and survivability tests on Reaper, Berserker, and of course Revenant to cook up some possible raid ready builds in the next few beta weekends.
As far as community goes, I’d be mostly interested in a guild that is made up of quality players who know what they’re doing but are still on the more relaxed side. To sum it up in an example: the guild is able to successfully complete raids on a regular basis but won’t kick me if I can’t make a raid night or if I need to bail due to an emergency.
Sorry for the long post, but I wanted to be thorough. Feel free to respond here, PM me in game, or shoot me a mail in game. Thank you all in advance and I hope to raid with you soon!

I really like this concept, although I’m not 100% sure how i would do it from a technical stand point.
spread the word, people are still scurred.
Yeah after reading the account restrictions (that are pretty limiting) I’m actually not too worried.
still a MASSIVE slap to the face to every GW2 player thats been around for three years. so when expansion two comes out am i still going to have to pay the full price when HoT goes free? utter crap
im already lubing up for all the new gold sellers…
RIP gw2
also no price drop for users who already own GW2. bullcrap
I tried out Shiro and honestly wasn’t very impressed. I feel like the skills are still missing something, can’t quite place it though. Once I tried out Mallyx though I fell in love. Currently using a mace/axe + staff build with mallyx and jalis and im having a hard time going down. Tried this build down in pvp, its just stupid how much torment damage there is. Point being: why would i ever play shiro when i can kill ANYTHING faster with mallyx and still not die?
One massive complaint is the sheer and complete lack of self-support (outside of ventari). I have no skills that apply protection or retal (without being CC’d or dodge rolling) or fury. There’s a whole trait line dedicated to fury and i can only proc fury when swapping legends or when i burn my heal. I’m hoping rev is just missing some utility skills or something.
All in all: one hell of a fun class and I actually am officially excited for HoT.
PS
In the new region I have used axe skill 4 to propel myself off of cliffs so many times, can we get a fix for edge detection or something so we won’t teleport off of cliffs anymore?
General lack of utility skills outside of Condi builds
I don’t really feel the need to explain this since all of our self support skills are on ridiculously long cooldowns, our wells are just silly (you can walk out of them), minions are broken STILL (2 years waiting for a fix), corruptions just got a nerf (apply an extra condition onto yourself) but HEY maybe shouts won’t suck.
No life force at the start of a PvP match
Not a huge issue but one I think i’d like to bring up. Every other class starts a round of PvP with the ability to use their class abilities. Sure, you can slot your expendable minions to give yourself a lifeforce boost at the start, but now you’re stuck using 1-3 useless minions for the rest of the match. You could trait a spectral skill and pop it as soon as you get into combat but then you’ve just burned a stun break on a 40-50s cooldown to get on par with your adversary. So, unless you’re moving in a group (to be fair you should be doing this anyways depending on your build) you’re at half power until your team can carry you and kill someone.
Minion builds
See above, they’re just broken and completely unreliable. Not to mention if we are transformed (i.e. moa morph) they ALL GO ON COOLDOWN. So, potentially a heal, three utilities, and an elite all go on cooldown. Name another class that has that problem. Please, humor me.
Ranged damage
Our two main sources of ranged damage are staff and life blast while in DS. I’d love to see a necro take out another player at range using only the staff. Try range fighting a warrior or thief or ele or engi or ranger with a staff. Life blast: really? Sure it hits hard but it’s super telegraphed and stupid slow. Just walk away from it or go around a corner. Or better yet, spam CC because we can’t break out of it while in DS.
Now, with less heals!
The necro healing skills are just laughable now with the consume conditions nerf. Blood fiend (when it works) is just unreliable for a heal because it just gets AoE’d to death and you’re of all sources of significant healing. Signet of Vampirism, get healed when you take damage (what? lol) or apply a stack of life drains that ANYONE can use. so you could be healing your minions, an idiot ranger on your team, or even a stupid NPC hitting the target. Right. Well of Blood wouldn’t be too bad, if it wasn’t on a 40s cooldown (32s traited i believe?) but even then it only heals 6640 (base) and that’s only if you stand in it. Consume conditions now applies 10 stacks of vulnerability on yourself for using it and had it’s cooldown increased by 20%, from 25s to 30s. Not to mention if you’re using a condi/corruption build it will also apply a SECOND condition on yourself. So, after using the healing skill you are now able to take back the damage you just healed in just as little time.
These are just some of my favorites, but i’m sure there are others. i’m leaving out a few specific scenarios but this encompasses the majority of my issues. I can’t go into specifics but whatever necros CAN do every other class can do it better.
My question to you is, why are they not viable in PvP and WvW? What exactly makes them unviable to you?
I don’t know about WvW since I don’t ever touch that garbage, but in PvP necros are just weak compared to every other class, with very few exceptions. I’ll point out my favorites:
Complete lack of stability
Sure, we have a stun break/ 2s of stability on entering DS but that requires us to trait into a GM trait while there are far better choices everywhere else. Lich Form applies one stability for 3s every 3s which is useless when fighting a thief, mesmer, warrior, engi, ranger, guardians, and even other necros because you just spam CC on them until the timer wears off. Plague form is a little better but still only 3 stacks of stab per 3s which, granted, is the same as rampage on the warrior but rampage has movement abilites and do we even need to compare the difference in damage between the two? Ha. Not to mention our other 3 stun breaks are all on at least 40s cooldown, while EVERY OTHER CLASS has 1) far more stun breaks and 2) stun breaks on a lower cooldown. our only other source of stability is on well of power which is on a 50s cooldown and only applies ONE SECOND of stability.
What’s the point of fears anymore?
Now this is more a personal problem, but something i feel the need to bring up. It feels like 90% of the time when i try to fear someone they are suddenly immune to fear or i just blew a cooldown trying to fear them for no reason. Engis are the worst because of Transmute (Incoming conditions have a chance to convert into boons, even though the chance is 100%) but then to add insult to injury when i fear them again they now have a stack of stability on them so i just blew all of my CC on them for nothing. Commence engi kb domination. This is just one example, but EVERY other class can shrug off our fears as though its nothing. And no one can argue for the terrormancer build because that is no longer viable.
They absolutely listen to us, where do you think Foot in the Grave being a stun break, or merging wells into one trait came from? The devs have listened quite a lot to Necros actually, sometimes for the worse (like original Dhuumfire), and often for the better.
So… after circa 3 years of the game being out they are just NOW made Foot in the Grave (which is a relatively new trait) a stun break? And merging wells into one trait is a moot point since most of the builds that would support it are all over the place and are frankly rather caddywompus.
Also just want to mention, Necro minion AI is still broken and unusable. Regardless of how much they “listen” to us they have not and probably will not fix the AI. Not to mention, minion AI has been broken for as long as I can remember and at this point we all just accept this fact that one of the main core mechanics to the necromancer is useless.
Back to your point, while they throw necros some breadcrumbs here and there, all in all the devs at ANet would rather cater to the engineers and the elementalists. Do they care about necros? Maybe, but not enough to give us meaningful change.
i also see that this was reported before, sorry for repost
In the arena of the aspects your pvp sigils and runes still apply, so those with sigil of fire, sigils of air, and the runes of the ogre will still gain their effects. this means that people can have AoE oneshots from the fire sigil, one shots from the air sigil, and the rock dog goes berserk and murders everyone. also, any class who have effects on crits (burning, etc) also one shot. please fix this anet and test this kind of stuff in the future. thank you

Anet,is there anything that work without problems in this game?
apparently not. people get rooted in place after using certain skills, massive increase in load times, etc etc.
but for the sake of this post, any news on the TP from ANet or something?
same problem here. bought some armor, lost the gold but never got the goods. please fix make sure your game works before sending it to other countries
is it just me or is the TP broken again? bought some armor and my gold was gone but my armor never showed, also sold some items and never got the gold. anyone else having this issue?
The 2nd build is a slight variation to the posted blackwater build… so i thought i’d also post this here for more feedback…
This is currently the latest build I have been using in Dungeons and Events.
I swap between every weapon except the Greatsword quite regularly when I use this build and enjoy that about it.
With the Scepter I always use Torch or Pistol.
With the Sword I use an off hand Sword, Pistol, or a Focus.
I used to hate the Staff and found it very boring, enjoying the GS more of the 2-handers… Now it’s the opposite.
A problem I have had (and when I usually die or get downed) is if i’m fighting ranged and my enemies close distance to me and so in response I switch to melee, I usually take way more damage than I can handle if i’m against for example a bursting hard hitting warrior. Letting my enemies get to melee range is usually when I take damage and occasionally struggle to survive.
Not sure if this is a problem with the way I play or if it’s a gear thing or what… How can i fix this in this build?
Recently I finished map exploration (/cheer) with this character and now want to try out sPvP, PvP, and WvWvW for the first time. Ideally I’d like to have as good of builds as possible that switch as little things out as possible when switching between PvE and WvWvW for example preferably without a trait respec but rather just switching between as little in number of items taking up my invetory space as possible, switching a few traits around… ect. if need be.
The utility skills I use the most are Feedback, Null Field, Phantasmal Disenchanter, Phantasmal Defender, Mantra’s of Concentration and Resolve, Blink, sometimes Portal Entre if there’s a need also on previous builds I’ve enjoyed Decoy, Mirror Images, and Signet of Domination.
I’ve never been a fan of Veil, Arcane Thievery, Illusion of Life, Mimic, or the other Mantra’s and Signets though I’ve tried them out.
Currently I’m working on getting the rabid armor to try out this build in WvWvW:

Does Retaliatory Shield actually even do that much damage, a player had told me that it’s actually a very low amount of damage and made me wonder if Phantasmal Fury would be a better choice? (II and III Dueling)
What I’d like to know mostly is…
How viable are these builds for different situations (sPvP, PvP, WvWvW, ect.)?
I’d love to have a one trait point spec fits all situations build and want to try a Lockdown build (is there a different trait and/or weapon spec I could do to make the 2nd build lockdown? also where would that shine), I don’t like phantasm builds as they are not fast paced enough for me… and I find myself always waiting on cooldowns.
I don’t feel confident with having chosen the best Runes and especially Sigils for these builds so feedback on that as well would be nice.
