Days after the patch and I still can’t play. I will try the moderator’s advice after work but it’s not exactly these other programs directly….I watched the patch install and then was unable to play the game.

Ditto. I cleared my bags and as I was heading to for adventure was logged off due to the patch. No GW2 for me tonight.

I'm Confused...

…about how to build my Elementalist. I jumped to level 30 and simply don’t understand how to spend points and I feel like I could be making bad decisions. I started with the Fire specialization but as I spend 2-4 points on abilities I just don’t know if what I’m doing is reversible, good in the long term, or just plain stupid. I’m probably mentally slow but i find this interface confusing.

Does anyone have a very simply guide or tutorial to show how to do this? As a new player I find most of the videos, although well done, geared toward veterans. They often gloss over beginning information like attributes or do I have to fill a specialization tree by spending all those points. Did any of that make sense? If not, how you know how I feel ;0

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Should I purchase HOT or wait?

My highest character is level 25 and I bought the base version for $50. However, I think the preponderance of advice here is good…wait. I just did it because I’m looking for a new game and have enjoyed a few days of leveling. The game is beautiful. But, most of the HoT stuff seems to be for maxed out characters. For me, purchasing it is motivation to commit and max out a character.

Good luck with your decision.

If you haven’t played at least one character to 20/30 naturally, I wouldn’t boost through it, but if you have, you’re not going to miss anything too exciting by boosting alts.

I actually really like the simplicity of the lower levels, and the starter zones are great, so I find myself not boosting right away, especially if I’m leveling an alt alongside a low-level friend. But that’s a personal preference.

That’s why I posted this thread because I also like the simple quests and starting areas. However, I hate to waste the boosts. The ones I have say to level 20 or 30 so at some point they’re not as useful. I leveled 1 character ye ol slow way to 25. But in thinking about 80 levels it currently seems daunting.

And thanks, Simple, I’ll just put them in the chest/bank.

Hmmm….interesting. Thanks for the feedback; it helps if you guys are saying I won’t miss much. These boosts on my 3 old characters only are to level 20 and 30. Don’t think I have anything that gets me beyond that point. I have not tried to mail them to other characters yet.

Should I use the level boost thing? I know know one can answer that for me because it’s a personal choice…but it’s really tempting to use. I don’t want to miss content but my highest character is level 25 (new to the game) and I am now enjoying a new Elementalist who is only 8th level. I think I’m going to stick to her. My question is, at 8th level, how much will I really miss if I jump to 30? Eighty levels is a lot so I’m thinking I will be okay. But I am really enjoying leveling, too. Any insights from those who have played through everything?

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

PS: Well snap my staff guess what I just discovered? Everyone here probably already knew this but I only have boosts on characters I made 2 years ago when I bought the game. I had 2 level 2 chars so they had them. The new one I just made…nope. So, I’m thinking to boost it up!

A special “Thank You” to Sidenti who sent me better bags in-game. Very generous!

Actually, that was me silly. :P

Nooooooo! Sorry Kreejaffa! Kreejaffa (cool name, btw) gave me a ton of great bags. It completely changed my ability to play.

Maybe I have been away from MMOs for too long but, man, there is a lot to know about this game. So many items and whatnot.

What an incredibly helpful thread! Such good advice especially for a nooby question. I’ve been away from the game for a LONG time and am currently considering the HoT expansion. The amazing nature of the responses here reflects so well on the GW2 community. It really makes me want to buy the expansion even though I’m a casual player.

OMG you guys are awesome. I just posted this and have 3 very detailed responses. Thank you. It makes me think highly of the community as I’m considering purchasing the expansion.

I know it was a pretty silly question but I log in after a LONG time away and it was overwhelming just to go out and play because my bags are packed. Thank you SO much for the advice….and so quickly!

Hi…I just reinstalled GW2 after not playing since it was released. My bags are FULL of stuff. Things like tiny scales and turquoise things and leather and so on. What the heck do I do with it all? I can’t even go out and quest because I won’t be able to pick anything up.

I’m a 22nd level ranger with the Huntsman profession. I figure I should craft BUT it’s daunting. What do I do with things that I don’t see as directly useful for my craft?

The screen shot is after I’ve made some progress clearing up a couple slots….but I still have things to salvage.

Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.
