I have been on since HOT started and haven’t played for more than a few seconds before the client shuts down. I’ve tried restarting my computer, I’ve tried running as administrator. I’ve tried updating graphics drivers and so on. I’m a tad disappointed ANET. I expected there to be bugs but the fact that I can’t even play the game is BS.

I have the same issue. I can’t play more than minute or even less because client shuts down or crashes. Everything was working before launch. Now game is unplayable ;/

Yes this happens because they can’t make a non-garbage client. It just runs out of memory because of compatibility issues between 32 and 64bit. Not that it matters, the issue occurs on both cases anyway.

Same problem here, unfortunately.
Have given up on logging into any big cities as the client crashes almost immediately.
Switched to low level areas to try for one of the themed dailies only to crash out five seconds later. I’ve been really looking forward to the Halloween content, but the game is unplayable at the moment.

Same here. I usually at least get to start a world event before being DC’d or the game shutting down my machine completely. Now I try to load a char and Blam! the client closes. I get the usual option to send info to Anet which I habitually do, but I’ve long assumed that gets directed straight into an Anet recycle bin somewhere at Anet HQ,

Update. I just managed to load a character and play for approx 4 minutes before crashing out. Whilst an improvement since the last post, should I now have to assume you regard the problem as sorted? Hopeless.

Same issue. Lasting approx 30 mins before crashing out though. This has only been since launch, and is the same sort of crash I sometimes get once or twice after other big patches.

I’m having this same issue.

I tried playing the game while it was ‘Playable’ before completing the download. Game began crashing every time I tried to play.

I finished the download but the crashing continued. Updated drivers, did some housekeeping on the computer, nada.

The repair tool crashes as well.
It feels like I’m hitting a brick wall here.

When the game crashes, it’s usually following some odd vanishing of text on tooltips, windows, and when I look at the map it’s blank. I tried dropping the graphics settings but still the game drops like a hot rock.

My client keeps crashing as well. Played on lowest possible settings, before HoT it never crashes at lowest settings, I can even record 2 or 3 hour long WvW sessions while playing. Now it crashes after going to a waypoint or with event encounters.

Try downloading Driver Booster 3:
http://www.iobit.com/en/driver-booster.php

The program will identify missing or outdated drivers. The problem isn’t always missing the latest graphic drivers, it might also be drivers needed for the mainboard.

Also, if you do want to reinstall drivers I’d suggest downloading an uninstall program first. That way the system is clean before installing a new set.

This site has a good one:

This is what is happening to me as well. I never had an issue with previous world events, holiday events, beta weekends, or general gameplay ( onaverage settings) but i can’t stay in Lion’s Arch or the first HoT mission for longer than 2 minutes on the lowest settings without crashing. Even just roaming around in the less populated areas crashes me after about 10 minutes.

Have the system specs changed?

We are pretty confident these patching crashes have to do with 3rd party software (such as malware, antivirus, and proxies) hooking into the Winsock API.

This Microsoft KB article explains how to reset TCP/IP:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/299357

Please let us know if this does not solve the problem.

The fix I described above is for the errors containing the exception code c0000417 in it, as hcopter.3269 included in his post above.

Oh My God.8423, this c0000417 issue shouldn’t be an issue on MAC. I’ll repost when we know more about that “Failed to start Coherent host” issue, described in your post.

I had an issue with the installer crashing about 3% ito the Heart of Thorns update. After numerous attempts and a fresh install I still received a crash but it began to occur immediately upon download instead of at 3%.

Had the random idea to remove Overwolf and disable from MsConfig as a startup item. Download currently at 23%. Seems to have helped me, maybe it can help some of you!

Same story here. Last time when I play GW2 was like a year ago, and then was no problems with my PC/Downloads/Internet Connection/Anti Virus programms etc. Everything was running smooth and nice, now I can’t download a client.

My Windows7 have all updates, same anti-virus program, same PC, and have crashes all time.

This is the same generic response that was given when GW2 launched having the same issues (it took appx. 1-2 weeks for the game to be stable enough to play), only this time i fear it will take your team longer to resolve the issues & have the game/server stabilized enough for us to actually play for any length of time.

How can you be “pretty confident” ? … when probably 90% of your gaming community is having the same recurring issues that the original GW2 launch had; the assumption that for some odd reason your gaming communities computer systems are having these malware, anti-virus, proxy problems only after the release of H.o.T, seems “pretty far fetched”.

While your post may be of truth & helpful to some of your customers, it is false for the majority of us.

I am a 35+yr computer techie/programmer/game coder/3d modeler & graphic designer. I’ve run the game on 5 different computer systems (2-asus gaming laptops, 1-macbook pro, 1-asus gaming station & 1-mac station)…additionally i used multiple OS versions (Lion, Yosemite, Xp, Win7 ultimate, Win8). none of the systems have malware, anti-virus, proxy or firewalls in place. I even went as far as testing them @ multiple locations using varied isp connectivity types (dsl, fiber, cable).

To no avail, every other game i have & all internet based activities run without issue maintaining stabilized network connectivity. however from the time GW2 client connects to your servers & during gameplay, i see continuous latency spikes; dropping all the way to a stall @ 0.1KB/s downstream .

Rather than using a generic reply & passing the buck on what is more likely to be an issue on your companies end; which does not apply to most of the community & creates more issues for the people of this community who are not tech/computer savvy.

I can only speak for myself.. but, i feel it would appease a lot more of us with a simple “we’re are not quite sure as to what is causing the issues / we’ve identified the issues and are currently working our best to get everything up & running smoothly, as quick as possible”.

So i ask you this… are you still “pretty confident” about your reply?
also, as asked by another community member “Do you have any suggestions for those using the Mac client”??
I’m certain the other person & myself are not the only ones who have run it using the Mac client. but, if your reply is the same only with links to the apple-support forums.. then it probably wouldn’t help anyhow.

This did not solve my problem as I am still getting frequent crashes. Just for giggles I re downloaded a fresh download of GW2 HOT, and I’m still getting the crashing.

My drivers are updated and I was having no problems playing until I downloaded the expansion.

I solved my problem since crash was activated because of this file: Module: LavasoftTcpService.dll
I used this topic for help for me was enough to install DelFix.

Hi. I have the same problems: While playing “before HOT” I’ve never experienced any crashes – alas, now I have them. I can play 6-10 minutes and then the game crashes and only gives me the option to send the report to ArenaNet (which I did)
I already tried updating the graphic driver card and other drivers without any luck.
Below is the crash report

Second day, and I still can’t play.
My main is locked inside Lion’s Arch that won’t get past the loading screen before crashing to desktop. Alts won’t play longer than a minute at a time before crashing. I’ve submitted a crash report every single time, updated graphics drivers, performed a repair and tried launching with firewall disabled. Still no fix.

I’ve had occasional world and boss crashes before, which was partly solved by lowering character quality and display settings (though Karka queen keept crashing so often despite it, that I’d stopped even trying), but nothing of the kind of game-breaking issue GW2 has had since the launch of HoT/Halloween.
Guild Wars is my top favourite to play and I was willing to let the abysmal failure of the Mordremoth Invasion slide, because there is so much more to enjoy. But now, I can’t even enjoy Halloween’s skin and achievement chases!

This is very, very poor, Anet. Admit that there is an issue for a significant portion of your player base, and make moves towards a solution on your end.

Thank you.

My client is crashing constantly ever since HoT and ever since I started going to the new zone Verdant Brink or any other crowded zone like Lion’s Arch.
I’ve had this problem for a while now, but putting all graphics from ‘auto’ to ‘best performance’ helped me get through those areas without crashes.
I’ve been doing Silverwastes vinewrath stuff, and even dungeons without issues, but ever since HoT is live I can’t do anything anymore apart from walking in non-crowded areas doing some leveling on my Revenant.

When I login to my Ranger (stationed in Verdant Brink) I disconnect by just turning my camera 180 degrees around. Even with every graphic on low.
My computer is really fine, and can run any other game very smooth, but for some reason it’s causing huge troubles with this game.

I heard someone say that it has to do with 32bit and 64bit, and something about memory being full after a short amount of time. I’m not a computer expert, but this sounds very reasonable to me.

Is there any GW2 employee that can help me find a fix for this issue? I’m 99% sure this 32bit/64bit stuff is what I’m looking for, but since I’m not so experienced with computers and digging in stuff like this, I’d like really a step-by-step guide to get me through this difficult stuff.

I don’t know how to post info about my system/computer, but I can tell that I run a 32bit system, have 4gb quadcore RAM, Windows Vista Ultimate, processor: Intel® Core™2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40 GHz 2.40.
Probably not so good compared to many gamer computers, but it should definately be good enough to play GW2 without crashing every minute. (even with all possible graphics on low)

So once again my question:
Does anyone have an answer on what to do with the 32bit/64bit issue that causes my memory to reach full after seconds of playing in a busy area?

- Unable to play GW2 properly ever since HoT launched because of crashing the minute I login…

I highly doubt that, mine only crashes when running 4k resolution in high populated areas, same as it always has with Teq, I drop it to 1080p and no problems at all. But heck, it’s 4k, no one seems to care about anyone running 4k at anet. (larger interface please)

If you read the log when the error window pops up, you’ll get a better idea of why.

But yes, it does crash a lot. Personally, it’s mostly memory problems with an occasional DX related crash. You can try to prevent OOM errors by reducing the graphics options (model limit/quality specifically) and restarting your client every so often. The proper fix is for ArenaNet to release a 64-bit client.

As for crashing a few second in, that’s likely not memory related. Read the crash log for more details (%appdata%/Guild Wars 2/ArenaNet.log).

You have to upgrade to 64 bit windows, and i doubt that a person from ANet
will come to your home and do that for you.

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

Submitting a report isn’t going to help your specifically. You’d need to actually post the log here or directly contact support.

“patching crashes” is when you crash while patching the game.

Oh, guys! You’re lucky, believe me. On the Mac side, crashes finished yesterday. Now, the game just doesn’t launch.

I have the same issue. I can’t play more than minute or even less because client shuts down or crashes. Everything was working before launch. Now game is unplayable ;/

the same .. and for everyone else that still uses an ancient 32-Bit Windows.

@Healix,
I’m actually crashing a few seconds in, especially when I’m in a crowded area. It also often occurs during loading screens.

@Beldin,
I’ve no idea how I can upgrade to 64 bit. I suppose that means I need a new operating system? And I don’t imply that someone from ANet should come to my house and solve all my issues, I just need some more simple language explaining to me what to do. I often have people explaining stuff with terms that are like chinese to me. Just a bit more basic step-by-step information and I’m sure I can pretty well handle things on my own.

Still waiting for real solutions to come up in this post.
I see a lot of people posting that have the same issues as I do:
- Crashing 4min after logging in.
- Sometimes even crashing when in my loading screen.
- Unable to do anything with more than 4 people attending cus it causes me to crash.

All of the above EVEN when putting every graphic option on the lowest possible. (When before HoT I had everything on medium and it was running smooth)

- Unable to play GW2 properly ever since HoT launched because of crashing the minute I login…

We are pretty confident these patching crashes have to do with 3rd party software (such as malware, antivirus, and proxies) hooking into the Winsock API.

This Microsoft KB article explains how to reset TCP/IP:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/299357

Please let us know if this does not solve the problem.

so i should not try this if i have a c000000005 error?

Hi,
In my case the client downloaded but after pressing play i get a black character loading screene with no background. There are character icons and the switches for options that dont seem to work. The game allows me to press play just to see a pulsing screenshot of my hero ingame but nothing seems to work there at all. Yet i can hear other players in my proximity at least i think these are players.
An other wierd thing is that even after the full download my client seems to take 25 instead 37 Gb of HDD space. That is especially surprising concidering the fact that contet was added to the game(im no programmer but: more content=more HDD taken, right?).
Never had problems like that with GW2 on this computer before.

I had minor problems yesterday with connections. HOWEVER, today I crash consistently once I enter the game. I tried updating driver, reloading older drivers, easy fix suggestion by the programmer, and still the client crashes.

Call me crazy but something changed today between 5am and now. Granted it is launch weekend, but this crap makes me a sad panada…. lol

I am running OK on my laptop running windows 10 but my wife who is on a desktop running windows vista is still crashing.. could it be as someone suggested before… that the 32 bit client is messed up?

She is able to log in and play for approximately 4-6 mins then the game crashes.

Can we please get a fix soon for this… she would really like to play launch weekend.

@Healix,
I’m actually crashing a few seconds in, especially when I’m in a crowded area. It also often occurs during loading screens.

@Beldin,
I’ve no idea how I can upgrade to 64 bit.

If your Windows Serial Number is directly from Microsoft you can download
a 64-Bit Version of your Windows version at ISO, burn it to a DVD and install
it from that DVD without having to buy a new OS.

But yes, you have to install a new OS in the end, you can’t update a 32-Bit version
to 64-bit.

Ok, it seems Vista is no longer downloadable at MS since Febuary :
https://www.heidoc.net/joomla/technology-science/microsoft/57-windows-vista-direct-download-links

EVERY MMO is awesome until it is released then its unfinished. A month after release it just sucks.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.

Edit: To add PC specs and current situation.

Has happened to me as well. Submitted 2 crash reports today.
At 7:00est, game crashed after I tried to close the app. I was able to login but none of assets were loading and I was stuck. I tried to logout of that character but then the whole client crashed. It was working fine 6hrs ago and yesterday. I did notice a patch before I logged in.

Windows 7 64bit Nvidia 580

Can you feel it? HOT HOT HOT
