GW2: my feedback

Apparently the utter boredom and ennui all of you all are experiencing hasn’t stopped you from posting on the forums of a game you so profess to hate.

Pity that.

Apart from one or two people in the entire forum (not even in this thread!) who’s professing to “hate” the game exactly? All I see is people who enjoyed the game, but feel like it doesn’t deliver on a couple of points and should be improved.

Apparently you must not be reading the GW2 forums then. All I see is a few of us that seem think the game is basically pretty decent….and non-stop whining over the most minor bs from gamers whose sense of entitlement is as overblown as their egos.

“Ennui” huh? I’m sure you use that one in your everyday vocabulary. And you marginalize players with legitimate concerns and earnest wishes for this game as being whiny and egotistical? Please.

General Discussion is just that. OP is finding himself bored with the endgame. That’s completely valid. Goes on to offer suggestions. Several of us agree and share our perspectives. Call it what you will.

I don’t see or or get the feeling from reading posts here that players feel they deserve more— That they got cheated out of their initial or subsequent investments in this game. Having missed out on the beta, I was very pleased with the game throughout my experience. You can’t tell me developers are indifferent when their player base drops off, and they see the trend where players get to 80 and stop playing a week later.

Anet WANTS our feedback, and because some players would rather post suggestions here than play a game they’ve grown bored with, that doesn’t mean we have lost faith in the devs or the game on the long-term. Some threads or posts, however negative they may seem, can serve the devs and the community. 9 times out of 10, some feedback is better than none.

It’s reasonable to say this MMO is in its infancy and has just begun to grow, but a number of players who had their fill will not return regardless of future fixes or installments. It’s important for Anet to keep these players. They’re some of the best. Call them whatever you want. They’re the hardcore (not to be confused with loyal) and they were/are turned off by the initial scope of the game. Its story, its combat, bots, anti-bot programming, and the overall endgame.

Again, I enjoyed my experience overall, and I appreciate Anet’s efforts here.. But at some point our praises will have no value and we need to offer constructive criticism for the good of the game and its creators.

Not off topic since we’re talking about lack of compelling endgame content and other missing elements.

With regard to your beef with no GvG: I played GW1 very briefly, didn’t get into endgame/GvG content… but it stands to reason that if the original Guild Wars had GvG then its sequel would obviously feature it and even build upon it. Guilds can’t wage wars with each other here, BUT they could in the original… seems like false advertisement. From the looks of it, this should have been called Server Wars.

Now I know this game is supposed to be “different”, but world pvp is huge for me. The best experience I can have in an MMO is when I can come across someone leveling or gathering and jump his kitten.. Or be set upon by someone just like me, on the hunt; And even if I’m squarely defeated, it was exciting or fun on some level. So yeah, give me that.

If I want that kind of experience here, I’m stuck with WvW, which as we have seen is the opposite of fun. One can find short thrills in finding a lone invader on his way to a vista or skill point, but then a wave of players seemingly come out of nowhere during your scrap and send you to the other side of the map. Having to walk SO far after dying is a massive setback. It’s infuriating, NO ONE wants to bother with that. Every time I get defeated I just look around for allies to rez me and wait, frustrated and miserable—The run back is always dull an uneventful. In either case my brain turns to mush.

Obviously more waypoints should be added, the maps could be redesigned, and “Contested” Waypoints should become more accessible.

For suggestions to give this game some personality: Add more incentives to dungeons by introducing unique loot pools to bosses/chests. Give us some RNG to gamble with. WoW had a great “need/greed” system. Any player can save up enough tokens to get their standard cool spikey flame sword, but only the lucky or dedicated would get the 1% drop rate cool spirally flame sword.

Finding rare monsters that drop specific loot would also be welcome. My favorite example would be Notorious Monsters in Final Fantasy XI. Obviously a pipe dream at this point; Anet first has to take care of the biggest problem this game is facing: Merciless pillaging bots.

Going back to your beef with legendary requirements, I’m mostly with you. I think the flat gold costs are outrageous. These weapons have the same stats as a weapon I can make myself with mats farmed in a couple of hours. It’s a SKIN. I get it though, give us something to work towards… but with all my maps/puzzles completed and WvW sucking my life force, A weapon skin is not enough for me to keep coming back.

I see a player standing in front of the Lion’s Arch Bank or TP just firing off rainbow arrows from their legendary bow the entire time I’m crafting/peddling around in town.. Possibly 30 minutes. Still shootin those rainbows.. And I think to myself, “Is that it? Did he win the game? Do I really want to be like that guy?”

Sorry for the long and random post, I’ll cut it here. Hope someone from Anet reads

Bump. This is still very much a problem. In fact, this and another missing skill point are the last for 100% world completion.

Please see attachments. I took a pic in the spider woods because I considered the possibility that the skill point icon was in the wrong place somehow; in IoJ and CD, the Skill Points are around that area. There is no skill point anywhere around this area.

Loot diminishing returns, Content unavailable... and BOTS

DR
I was farming Arctodus for T5/6 blood in Frostsound sometime last week, maybe for 2 hours. With Explorer set, Superior Sigil of Luck, and Lotus Fries, I was able to farm relatively well. Pretty even drop rate. I’d say I got a Powerful Blood every 10-15 min. It didn’t feel worthwhile, but it wasn’t a complete waste of time.

I went back a couple of days ago to do Trolls and Arctodus in the Troll Champ camp. Same build and all. I got plenty of blood and a couple rares, but after being there for about 30 min I was getting virtually no blood. Very few greens/blues. My friend came out to get in on the grind. He only had lotus fries, no MF gear. He was telling me on TS whenever he got drops, meanwhile I was getting nothing… And becoming increasingly aware that Diminishing returns were reducing my loot to only junk claws. So DR kicks in I’d say after 30 minutes and you get mostly nothing from that point on. Move to another zone, you’re done farming. Can anyone confirm this as a hard fact?

We already know about the grubs in Orr (possibly elsewhere idk) that give nothing for kills and cause the giant “Raid” text to pop up to let you know that you are being denied loot at the expense of exploiters. Now, I was in Diessa Plateau attempting to get the “cannon” vista. You talk to an NPC who lets you use a cannon to blast yourself to the top of a tower to get the Vista… Guess what?

This content is unavailable. That’s right, I could not get 100% map completion in Diessa. We’re all aware of the oft-glitched skill points that block completion until resets, but this message leads me to believe the content will remain unavailable for some time now. How were players exploiting this cannon? It shoots you to the top of the tower. That’s it.

Lastly, this should be old news, but I don’t mind piling on.

WvW. Skritt DEs. Masses of bots. Please check that out.
