FPS fix when all else fails - here's how:

A few weeks back, I was having all kinds of trouble with Gw2. I barely topped 30 FPS on high settings, while other games, MMOs I was breaking 80 FPS easy.
I put up this topic:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/support/New-computer-very-low-FPS/first#post6237952

and left with this:

I upgraded from AMD 4300 to FX-6300 6-Core Processor (my mobo socket) and the performance is still bad (desktop has GTX 960). I am sitting in a starting zone, no models around me, and I can barely still break 50 FPS.

I still wasn’t happy, and kept looking for a “real” fix on google and older topics about this. Here it is:

Delete your Local.dat located in C:\Users\ [Your User Name] \AppData\Roaming\Guild Wars 2
Delete the Gw2 cache located in C:\Users\ [Your User Name] \AppData\Local\Temp

You’ll have to unhide both folders. Your graphics will all reset, but keybinds will not.

After that, I logged in, went immediately from 30-50 FPS to an instant jump of 80 FPS, 60 FPS with settings on High.

Problem solved, finally.

Lower FPS since i returned

this will fix it. I don’t know why no one from support answered your question.

New computer, very low FPS -

thanks for all the responses. I ended up dropping another $100, and buying another CPU.

Now the FPS is where it needs to be. Just unfortunate Gw2 does not utilize system resources efficiently between directx 9, windows 10, AMD, and Geforce drivers.

I’m having a problem with guild wars 2 FPS on a new computer.

Desktop computer specs -

Windows 10
AMD 4300 Quad Core 3.8 Ghz
Nvidia GTX 960
16 GB Ram
FPS – 25 – 35 FPS (max!)

I can’t figure out why the FPS is so low. I’ve checked everything to fix low FPS -

-Checked Power settings on the computer
-Tried both 32 bit and 64 bit
-Made sure “run as administator” is checked
-Reinstalled 3 times
-I have the latest vid card drivers
-Ran a virus check
-Other MMOs (ESO, STO) have no FPS drop. Other games (Total War, Dota2) have no FPS issues either
-Lowering the graphics settings doesn’t help the 25-30 FPS on GW2
-When I use something like “Total Makeover Kit”, even selecting through different options in the window panel slows the game
-I checked the affinities, and every CPU core is being used when the game launches
-The game is open through the control panel firewall
-The game is slow in both Full Screen and Windowed mode
-The nvidia control panel doesn’t use any custom settings for gw2.exe. No other game has low FPS problems
-When I click “auto detect best graphics settings”, some settings are turned to low. In other MMOs, the auto detect will max out every setting.

My old desktop was an AMD 2.0 Ghz with GeForce 750, and it ran GW2 much better than this 3.80 Ghz, GeForce 960.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Here is the screenshot of the CPU cores being used during gameplay:

All 4 AMD CPUs are being utilized during gampley. I’m not sure if hardware is the problem here. Just changing compatibility to windows 7 seems to have boosted FPS

(Standing still, no characters on-screen) from 25 FPS to 40, but I still get choppy pauses doing simple stuff like selecting through options in the “Total Makeover Kit”.

I think this is a software problem between windows 10, AMD, and Gw2. I did not have this problem on windows 7, with a geforce 750, AMD

Please fix elementalist class

After taking a long break from gaming and coming back to play this weekend – I have just one question – “can we once and for all just get this class fixed”? The same problems plague this class now were around over a year ago. The “glass cannon” concept stinks, especially when everyone else is pretty much a cannon too.

I like the complexity of the class, and don’t mind the “work 2x as hard for the same result” part as much as I hate the “glass” cannon part. If it’s this easy to die, the damage output/rotation should be much easier – or – if complexity is what we’re going for, then there absolutely needs to be more mobility / escapes / survivability.

Instead we get the worst of both worlds. Stance dancing complexity mixed with no armor – equaling 2x the complexity with 1/2 the survivability compared to other classes. And yes, I’ve tried various spec builds, various weapons, from D/D to specter to staff, from fire to earth to arcane, and everything in between.

I play mostly on the weekends and some week nights, and I can’t throw away all the map exploration / other achievements and start all over with another class. I would love to try a mesmer or guardian but I just don’t have the time. I’m all in 100% with my elementalist or bust.

It’s time for us to be a useful class.
