I feel your pain too. My Mesmer is all shades of soft pastels – lilacs and violets – the red back piece sticks out like a sore thumb
They really should put dye channels on the back pieces that have corresponding glider skins. The moth glider has 2 dye channels, it shouldn’t be too hard to translate that automagically to the back piece for that toon, if the toon uses the same skin in both places.
I would kill for a second chance at the bunny ears too! I had a pair way back when the game lunched and must have mistakenly deleted them since the wardrobe wasn’t around then.
My personal guild is themed around bunnys too lol so they would be perfect :P I would gift a few pairs to various friends too
I wish they would bring back the bunny ears! I bought a pair way back when the game launched but the wardrobe system wasn’t in place then, I must have deleted the bunny ears mistakenly
I would kill for a second chance at getting a pair!
OK, just a heads up, I’m also from South Africa, running through AfriHost ISP.
I just tried the DNS change solution suggested by puretom / Drakkan and it worked for me. (Thanks for the info!)
I’ll be updating my GW support ticket accordingly, and contacting my ISP to find out if there’s any problem on their side. Makes no sense why a change in DNS server would instantly fix the zero throughput the patcher was getting… but hey, it worked!

Ditto.. Thanks for NOTHING Anet.. another patch day will go by with no play possible for me. I expect you to compensate me with the Laurel I’ll be missing out if this patch doesn’t actually download before I have to go to bed.
Yay Anet.. You broke it AGAIN. 2 weeks ago I had the same problem with updating. Stuck at 99% with 1 file remaining. It took 5 hours to finally decide to download that file.
This time around its not even downloading the executable, nevermind the data files. I’m really dreading patch days nowadays.. 5 hours is UNACCEPTABLE to make me wait just to download the kitten patch.
COME ON ANET.. What the hell are you guys doing over there???? You’re destroying your reputation of having fewer glitches / problems than any other MMO out there. At least for me anyway. I’m rapidly losing faith in your systems…
I know exactly what frustration you all are having >.> I wish I could offer some better advice on how to resolve the problem, but as I said in my follow up post, the only thing I did was restart the launcher repeatedly at one point, and then I gave up and left it for a couple hours. After that it somehow just sorted itself out. I’m pretty sure there are problems on their patching server – HDD problems or Network issues maybe – who knows, but something interfering with our downloading of the patch. All I can say is I hope it comes right for you like it did for me >_<
I’ve had that a few times in the past. Doing a repair on the dat file seemed to sort out the problem for me. You can do this by putting the ‘-repair’ command line switch behind the target in your shortcut.
What I’ve done to simplify the process for myself, for any future repairs I need to do, is as follows (Assuming you installed your game originally from DVD and have a shortcut to your game .exe on your desktop):
- Duplicate your existing GW2 Shortcut (Copy/Paste it onto Desktop)
- Rename the second shortcut to something like “Guild Wars 2 Repair”
- Right-Click the new shortcut, select “Properties”
- On the ‘Shortcut’ tab, in the ‘Target’ field, add -repair to the end of the target, AFTER the quote mark. It should look now look something like this: “D:\Games\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe” -repair
- Note: The above target location is my path, yours may look slightly different, the main thing is that the -repair option sits outside the " " quote marks.
- Click OK, and you’re done!
Now whenever you need to do a repair on your GW2 DAT file, just use the new Repair shortcut. Your original GW2 shortcut is unchanged and can be used for launching the game normally.
Hope this helps!
Update: Almost 5 hours later the patcher finally decided to wake up and patched the last file I needed. Come Anet, 5 hours delay waiting for your patcher to download the patch? This is really unacceptable. Thats basically half my play day gone today due to the patcher not working.
As an added note, I’ve done absolutely nothing in terms of system changes. The patcher just suddenly decided to work again. For the past 5 hours I would get speeds of 20-30Kb/s max, for a short burst of 10-20 seconds every time I opened the launcher, after which the speed dropped down to 0.00 and stayed there, permanently. Now it just worked again, giving me the 900Kb-1Mb speed I’m used to.
You really gotta work on your patching server capacity. I understand peak time patches will slow everyone down in terms of d/l the patch, but c’mon – 5 hours of nothing is pushing it!
I don’t know where to post this, I’ve tried searching the forums for this and nothing pops up. Is anyone else having issues with the patch that was released a few hours ago? My launcher is stuck on 1 file remaining. I’ve left it to run its course, I’ve restarted the launcher dozens of times, restarted my PC several times, nothing helps.
Please tell me I’m not the only one who’s been sitting here for almost 3 hours waiting for a kitten patch to download? I’ve never had this issue with patches before. Ever!! So no, there are no security system issues or firewall issues or A/V issues – nothing has changed between now and the last patch that came out earlier this week (which patched perfectly first time).
Just tell me this, where exactly is the fun and intrigue, of cataclysm, war and dragons, if nothing is gonna really be destroyed? How is it going to be fun knowing that no matter if the mother of all dragons attacks Tyria, everything will be intact or rebuild as new, once the chaos is over. I’m sorry, but I hope L. A. never comes back (and I’ve been playing GW since 2006 so I’ve dedicated more time, and love this game much more, than 90% of the people playing right now). This is a living, evolving world, which means it’s never gonna feel or look the same (or at least they shouldn’t), because the world will evolve, good things and bad things will happen, and we’ll have to adapt. No more L. A.? Then we’ll find another place to settle (making the game feel new again and much more entertaining). Once Jormag decides to appear, the Shiverpeaks will evolve, once Kralkatorrik (or however you spell it), shows up, the ascalonian ruins will evolve, and so on. I’m tired of all the bs invasions, and bs disaster, so that in the end, everything ends up looking exactly the same (like it happened the last time a so called catastrophe struck LA). It’s time for a change, it’s still Tyria, so cherish the fact that you saw how it once was. But a living world will go through changes, and it’s just awesome that we as players get to lose the places we cherish, and get to experience loss just like the characters, which ultimately draws us closer to the story (which has been magnificent in lore, but visually, emotionally, and the way it’s been presented so far, it has been underwhelming to say the least, and now it has a chance to be great).
This, entirely this! One of the things that excited me the most about GW2 was the prospect of a dynamic, alive, living world that changes over time. Up until now, all we had were ‘world events’ or ‘dynamic events’ where we, for example, had to ‘save some village from the centaurs’, where if you came back tomorrow, the village was still there, all shiny and new like nothing had ever happened.
Now Anet has taken a bold new direction, and literally obliterated a city we all knew and loved and spent a great deal of time in. THAT is what a living, breathing, ever changing world is supposed to be about. THAT is what I’ve been waiting for since the launch of GW2. I love this new direction the game is going, and I eagerly look forward to seeing how Volume 1 in the Living Story plays out. I sincerely hope we see more events in the future that have major impacts on the world like this one (whether they cause destruction or creation/addition of new lands).
I just hope more people embrace change, and continue to make memories amongst themselves and their friends throughout the life of GW2, so we can all sit around a fire one day in GW3 and reminisce about the world-changing events that took place in Tyria’s history. Or think back fondly about the times we spent in Lion’s Arch before its destruction (again).

Has anyone stopped to think that maybe, just maybe this minor ‘inconvenience’ is part of how the Living Story world is evolving. Think about it, if your home town is destroyed, what do you do? Do you stand back and moan and curse and complain to everyone about the fact that your town is no longer around, and “oh how inconvenient it is now”? Or do you make the best of a bad situation, and make do with what is available until your home town can be rebuilt?
I don’t understand why people are complaining so bitterly about how the story is evolving. I for one always wanted events that would impact the world a lot more than some silly side dynamic event to save a village from horses that will still be there tomorrow. And I’m pretty sure a lot of people share this sentiment.
We don’t know what the next chapter of this story has in store for us. Maybe Lions Arch gets rebuilt? Maybe this ‘inconvenience’ everyone is complaining so much about is all part of the immersion. Instead of just kittening about how unfair it is that your crafting stations are not next to your Mystic Forge, how about immersing yourself in the story and being a part of its evolution. How about embracing these changes, and actually “rough” it for a couple weeks until we see what the next chapter brings?
People will find things to moan and complain about no matter what Anet does. Some people thrive on it. I for one am happy to see Anet being this daring and turning our ‘perfect little Tyria’ upside down for once. It keeps us on our toes, and for me personally, keeps things interesting. I look forward to seeing how the rest of this story plays out.

The only thing I’d like to know is.. why is the Permanent Airship Pass only ‘fine’ quality, whereas the Royal Terrace pass was rare? From a practical point of view, it kinda makes it harder to distinguish between the single use / 2 week airship pass and the permanent one. From a (more important to me) cosmetic point of view – if I’m going to spend 1k gems on a pass I’d at least like it to be a shiny gold colour in my inventory!! :-p
