My internet is only 2MB download, so double what you claim she has, and it only took me a couple of minutes to download the patch (and for something interesting, 30mb only takes slightly more than an hour to download with a 56kb connection, that’s dail-up speeds).
So either her speed is much lower than even 56kb, or she has other apps taking up bandwith (could be a virus, spyware, or simply a phone or pc downloading updates or syncing some cloud stuff), or there’s an issue with her connection for which she might need to contact her service provider.
Here at home I often have the 2nd problem, for example somebody left their pc on and is still logged into steam when it suddenly decides to update a game, bam gone is most of the internet. Somebody decides to torrent something but doesn’t cap the speeds, gone is the internet for everybody else. We had one phone here which also did a lot of cloud syncing whenever it got on the wireless, always taking the internet down for everybody else. I ended up investing in a better router with Bandwith Control, so I can guarantee myself I certain minimum speed no matter what everybody else is doing in the house. That did wonders for me.
I am noticing a small decrease as well, from a stable 60 to 50 while in the black citadel. CPU load is below 40% (a i7 4790K), gpu load didn’t go above 50% (970 gtx).
In the Wayfarer Foothills I instead get around 100-120 fps (so it’s perfectly fine there). CPU load remains the same there, GPU load spikes to 71% occasionally.
I know it might not be obvious, but the data to and from your network doesnt magically travel through the air to get to anet’s server network. It also isnt something always on anet’s side either. The path you happen to take to communicate with the servers may just be having issues some way or another.
I know it may not be obvious, but common sense and logic suggest that it is on anets side as it was not only my connection but at least 4 other people in my party’s as well, on multiple occasions in multiple locations.
In Arah and in Fractals have been the most recent and memorable cases as they cause the dungeon to be entirely lost for fractals, and wipes and sluggish response times for skills during boss fights in Arah.
Actually, common sense and logic do not suggest that if sufficient knowledge on the workings on the internet is added in to the mix. The network path for yourself and those 4 people could very well have quite some overlap the closer you get to the servers, the issue could be in any of the overlapping nodes. Of course it could also be on anet’s side as anet’s network is part of that overlapping path, but the cause could just as easily be elsewhere along the path (which fits the picture of some people having no issues whatsoever, while others are seeing lag).
Sounds like a design flaw in the event then. How about making the defend event harder and harder depending on how many times in a row it has succeeded? This will make it harder to succeed and likelier that the defenders will eventually fail.
I might have something that can help you to get more secure passwords. I also used to have 1 password for everything, so a friend of mine pointed me towards a free open source program called KeePass.
It’s a program in which you can store passwords, and you use it to generate new random passwords for you. It’s protected by a master password of your choice. I use it in combination with its firefox plugin, which allows me to easily login on any site without having to enter the username/password myself. When I need to make a new account somewhere I just generate a new password with that program and then save the username and password in that program, with a Title that matches the name of the game/site that the account is for. This way I don’t need to remember my passwords as I can just look them up in that program and copy/paste them when I need them. So if you currently only use 1 password for almost everything or have trouble remembering passwords, then you might want to give it a try.
If you decide to use it then do make sure to make regular backups, as if you lose it then all your passwords are gone to.

Why anet even let players make more than one character? This is just insane. They could have just tell players not to waste laurels.
It’s even worse, why does anet even let players try different builds on one character? You’d have to get the same amount of laurels all over again if you want to switch from a power to a conditions build. These insane laurel costs don’t mix well with the rest of the game (like for example the trait system) at all. At a small cost we can easily change our traits and go for a totally different build, but then getting the same kind of gear for that new build takes 6 months or more? There is no consistency in the game’s design there at all, why allow for such freedom in the trait system if switching gear is ridiculously slow in comparison? Sounds like an Epic Fail from the people who designed that.
