I would encourage you to youtube this. There’s a guy with a mesmer who wanders around the map taking on 6 mobs at a time to prove that it’s easy. Frankly, he downs them WAY faster than I do on my ranger.
All these underpowered classes are simply being played badly. There are a lot of youtube videos showing this.
Besides, a lot of people gripe that rangers are underpowered. I think they’re almost OVERpowered. Lower damage, but absolutely insane survivability when played right.
The bottom line is that if you try and play this game without moving, and understanding the nature of your weapons and class, you will fail.
For the sake of argument, I will accept that any class can AoE clear everything. But only if it is anticipated, because you must have a proper weapon/skills/traits prepared for that playstyle.
However, some PvE leveling builds are not AoE pull-centric. And I shouldn’t have to play in a paranoid state that any minute a bunch of mobs will just popup out of nowhere when I’m fighting.
And, by the way, I’m moving, dodging and do understand limitations of my weapons, that is why I say that with certain setup if I’m fighting more than 2 mobs at a time I’m dead (or run away).
Plus, cloth wearers have much less margin of error right now.
Unless you’re already fighting 5+ mobs, a single mob spawning while you’re fighting will certainly not cause you to die.
If it DOES cause you to die, you probably need to revisit your fighting style, because something is very wrong.
I regularly take on far more than two mobs by myself in Orr, and survive just fine. I took on 7 at once down by the south SP in Malchors Leap, and survived with my ranger + Shortbow & greatsword. I’ve seen others do this as well, so it’s not that unusual.
You need to realize that there are professions that are very strong against multiple regular mobs (Ranger, Warrior, Guardian) and ones who are very weak against multiple regular mobs (Mesmer, Thief, non-staff Ele). Both lists are not complete (these are just from my experience).
First thing they should fix is pre-selected auto-attack on ALL kits (including grenades on fast cast). After that we will be in a good enough spot (still with bugs but, hey, everyone has bugs).
I’m having a blast with my engineer right now, but this bug fix will shut me up for quite a while. I have 6 different toons and, believe me, engineer feels like a strongly buffed up elementalist.
It starts as early as level 15 areas. I haven’t had a problem on my warrior because everything dies in at most 5 seconds. But doing the same area as mesmer, where it takes about 10-15 seconds per mob (with very limited AoE) it gets frustrating.
Location: Diessa Plateau.
The wall climbing puzzle has a small area with bunch of ghosts. I pull first one, kill it. Then pull two (because they are too close together). The moment last of them dies the first one pops up. I tried to do it at least 4 times in a row trying to advance with no effect. The only way to continue was to ignore them and run through until they reset.
A small separatist camp near the wall has a POI inside. Walk in, pull a mob near the POI and while kiting him 4 bandits respawn instantly around me (had to run away). The was a warrior that visited the area just in front of me, I guess he AoE cleared them just before me.
An event of separatists sieging a logging camp. A pull of two separatists ended up life and death chain spawning session that ended up with at least 3 waves of (non-DE) mobs spawning and joining the fray. So that means on cleared area I pull two mobs, three spawn mid fight, then while I kite all of them and kill one by one, the dead ones keep spawning and aggroing. And I could not really pull them out of that spawn area because they’d either reset or I pull some other camp of mobs.
TLDR: In certain areas respawn rate is targeted around any fight lasting about 5 seconds. Anything longer that that becomes an impassable area.
They should start respawn ticks after the area had no fights around it, not after the mob dies.
They can change it to “Regroup!” Works for any situation.
I think the first set of tweaks should be traits. They should promote active attunement swapping and not limit it.
For example:
Zephyr’s speed: 10% while attuned to air and ~10 seconds after.
Instead of having 5% more damage to burning or bleeding foes, it should either be combined or linked to a weapon.
Currently you you can either use your traits 25% of the time, or use your profession at 25% of its potential.
Engineer is better. I have both (and working and have a family etc.) and right now engineers can do everything ele’s can, but better with more tricks, more survivability and more damage.
Here’s the deal: elementalist is very fun to play as long as you don’t have a warrior, guardian, thief or ranger alts. Once you play those the elementalist becomes extremely frustrating.
For versatility I play an engineer:
Rifle for single target
Grenades and bombs for AoE and CC
Elixir Gun/Med Kit for support
More damage/survivability/versatility/fun than an elementalist. And no 15 second attunement lockout to boot.
I have 5 evenly leveled characters and with even gear (25 crafted sets). Those are Warrior, Elementalist, Engineer, Guardian and Mesmer.
Comparing those 5 I can say that:
Warrior is easy and fun
Guardian is easy but boring for soloing (high damage weapon is GS and it has boring 4-2-3 combo)
Engineer is fun and versatile, but tougher to play
Mesmer and Elementalist are an exercise in frustration:
Mesmer – because if there are unplanned adds you’re boned
Elementalist takes forever to kill anything and cannot take a hit at all.
And a disclaimer to L2P crowd: I know what tools to use per class and when, I switch attunements, utilities and weapons based on situation to what benefits most. Yes, I dodge properly too.
I just don’t want to have to fight a regular mob like it is an epic survival battle. There are Champions and bosses for that.
Trading post will not help, because to level a profession (and not craft a particular set) you need any of the mats. Got 3 blood vials? Great! No bone chips, but have Venom sacks, does not matter! Stuff that you don’t need for crafting nobody needs at all. And except for cooking every craft needs same fine mats.
