I'd be good too if I paid for Heart of Thorns

So, I took off for about two months.

I come back and we’re still talking about this. lol?

When did it become a sin for GW2 to have an expansion? Folks act like they’re getting ripped off even before they’re spending a dime. Talk about privilege.

I’m not usually on the corporation/company’s side, trust me. But, no. People who paid should not have their stuff disabled. No, Anet should not cater to the person who doesn’t want to purchase the expansion.

That’s what it is. An expansion. WoW had them (and as said before, they functionally made all previous content obsolete). Other MMOs had expansions, as well. It’s not Pay to Win. I’m pretty sure that term is predated by the concept of MMO expansions. When I picked up HoT, I didn’t pick up an item that would let me win. I purchased new content from the game developer.

This isn’t a MOBA. This isn’t LoL or SMITE or DOTA II. If you choose to play only one aspect (and granted, I pretty much only PvP), that’s on you.

If you want to PvP with all options available to you, you’re buying the expansion. End of story. I suggest getting used to it and adapting (which is possible), or god forbid – forking out some money.

If you need to console yourself at night about the money you felt forced to fork out, divide your play time by the price of HoT. MMO expansions are nearly always worth the investment for time value.

( I must be old. I never thought of this as “pay to win.” It’s a friggin’ expansion. Is P2W the new gamer buzzword? Geez. I remember -standalone- expansions, back when you could buy what was essentially a new game, but called an expansion for some reason.)

Oh, look. The daily “P2W” thread.

It’s an MMO, kids, not a MOBA. Be thankful you don’t have a subscription to pay, huh? If you’ve played 4 months worth of Guild Wars 2 over its span of existence, the price of HoT is already justified at the typical subscription rate of $15 a month.

I don’t know why I try, though. Logic has no place here.

I understand bracketing and all that, but I have to agree with you.

This was just sad. There was nothing interesting about it. I really did feel bad for the losing teams. I would have loved to see the newcomers face off and gain some confidence. I’m actually really glad that I didn’t have my friends watch this stream. I have been trying to recruit some of the people I PvP with in other games, and I know seeing these sort of stomps back to back would have certainly turned them off to being interested.

So, here’s the thing. If you’re going to get a front page spot on Twitch, I think it’s most important to field interesting games. That’s more important than following bracketing by the book. You’re not going to stir up much interest when viewers come in and see a 500-0 stomp-fest.

Well if logic was involved I could shoot my guns further than someone could throw a 2handed hammer. I personally fight with no skill and use loud stylish moves like an annoying Naruto Ninja and win battles via a trolly, cowardly playstyle like most Thieves so it wouldn’t bother me much. Wielding it in a manner of better protection also wouldn’t matter anyways since we don’t fight in a physically defensive manner with any staff blocking skills and use speed and magic instead.

Hah, fair enough!

I don’t know why developers and gamers continue to consider a staff held with one hand (it’s a two-handed weapon) behind the back to be a martially intelligent decision. It’s not.

For what it’s worth, holding it out front like a hammer would actually provide better protection. I’m not saying I like the current animations, but it actually makes more sense than all of that silly flair.

Don’t mind me, I’m not trying to rag on ideas too hard, and I would like to see some visual improvement. But, do we really need the same BS hokey that we get in every other game? As someone who has used the staff for several years as a way of fitness and training, it just doesn’t make sense to move with it behind the back like you’re some anime character. People don’t run with their guns behind their backs, right? I’m willing to bet a Spartan didn’t run with the dory behind his back, either.

My point is this:

Wouldn’t it be cool if this weapon didn’t look like it does in every other game (cheesy), and if it didn’t look like a hammer? To be honest, centralizing the the holding animation so there’s equal lengths on either end would go a long way, for me. Another option would be to hold it perpendicular to the body at hip level, so that the staff faces the opponent. This has the martial value of your enemy not knowing the length and reach of your weapon.

Edit: Pluralization is hard.

That’s a good point and honestly didn’t think about it. Though, for new Players, they might not even know it’s there.

This thread will probably get drowned out by the flood of Nerf/OP cries, but I still think it’s pretty important.

A friend and I convinced a second friend to try the game. So, we form a group and I try to start the queue. Doesn’t work. We finally figure it out that the new friend has to queue us. Admittedly, we’re at a disadvantage since our friend that just joined doesn’t know what he’s doing. We play Stronghold 4-5 times and don’t fair too well. That in itself is fine, but it’s getting discouraging and doesn’t bring much diversity when playing the same map over and over.

We figure our new friend is queuing incorrectly. So we tell him to make sure he has Conquest checked.

He claims, “Conquest Mode will be unlocked at Rank 10.”

Look, I know Rank 10 is easy to get to. That’s not my point. What’s the benefit of locking new Players into the new game mode? In the case of my friend, it gave him a pretty terrible experience. In a word, it was discouraging for him. To me, it felt perhaps like the developers are maybe a little too proud of the new game type in this sense.

I guess I’ll put it this way:

Does locking new players interested in sPvP to one map/game type for their first 10 PvP levels really have any benefit? The argument I can see is that Stronghold is new so it helps introduce people who don’t know what they’re doing – but we’ve already seen it in BWE. All I know is that if I were a new player, I sure as heck wouldn’t want to play the same map for 10 levels, no matter how fast they are compared to higher ranks.
