I remember when I used to do the meta boss train. Dwayna temple (I think) would have the screen flashing allover the place (I’m guessing it was a bug) as well as spell effects. If anyone was prone to seizures then god help them if they played that.

Yea.. Dwayna is pretty bad, I usually turn to “best performance” graphics there to avoid too flashy scenes.

I found it really tiring to keep my eyes on the screen when there are a lot of people throwing their skills at the same time, because of the glaring skill effects. Today I fought 5 world bosses in a row with my guildies, and after that I had to quit immediately and let my eyes to rest. They hurt so badly.

I checked the options but surprisingly there is no such option to turn down or off the light/particle effects of skills.

It’s just my suggestion but can we add some options such as “simple skill effects of other players” or “turn off skill effects of players not in the party”? Considering this may be useful in WvW as well, I think there also should be choices on both friendly and enemy players.

What do you guys think?

please support Chinese language input

I personally find this a bad idea, sorry. I mean seriously, how many more language barriers do you want to introduce?

If you don´t know what i mean, try guesting to a high pop euro server and try some new LS stuff. The overflows are crowded with people speaking english, german, french, spanish, portuguese, italian, kroatian, danish, swedish, norse, russian, hungarian and so on.
Seriously, this is not so much of a problem yet, as they all use the same alphabet. But if you introduce the chinese alphabet, you have to introduce the kyrilic and the greek ones as well. And please don´t tell me that this wouldn´t end in a huge mess of pseudo chat box.

Seriously, if you´re a native speaker of chinese, russian, greek or whatever, please use the english alphabet. It does get to confusing otherwise. Especially since the size of the asian letters would have to be different to the latin ones.
And just by the way, i am not a native english speaker as well and i do understand a couple of european languages.

If you are multi-lingual, you should know that introducing more language support doesn’t build up language barriers. It breaks them. Using English alphabet or not, Chinese would not be understood by most western country players. Then what’s the point to make it difficult to read even for Chinese people? If a Chinese player knows English, he or she would like to join the English conversations. But what if he or she doesn’t? All he or she could do is to struggle through the terribly broken Chinese input support currently in game.

And by the way, there IS Chinese input support in game, as well as Japanese. They are just super broken. The feeling using it is like typing English with only 15 letters available. We hope other languages speaking players can have their own languages supported as well. Who they make such a wonderful community are the players from all over the world, isn’kitten

So the points are:
Adding complete Chinese input support won’t make the communications more difficult, because:
a) There is originally Chinese input support in game. It’s just sort of broken. And people use it. Fully supporting Chinese input won’t make Chinese speakers any more or any less in game.
b) Using another language doesn’t mean they don’t want to communicate with you. They can’t. Then what’s the meaning of making them difficult to communicate in their own language? <— trust me, if by any chance they can speak English, they will be more than happy to talk to you.
c) If they want, even without Chinese input, they can type using English letters in, let’s say, map channel, and non-Chinese speakers won’t understand it anyway. It’s just difficult to read even for Chinese speakers. But they don’t usually do so, because they know that it would be annoying for non-Chinese speakers. (well, there are a jerk or two in any country, so please be calm judging on behaviors.) Chinese input support doesn’t make any change to this as well.

I don’t speak Korean so I am not sure about Korean language support. But I know that there is, well, kind of Chinese and Japanese input support in game, just very broken. And yes, if it’s possible, please fix it, Anet.

red circles in Liadri the Concealing Dark

in Queen's Jubilee

Color blind gamer here! I legitimately can not see the red circles during this fight. After trying around a dozen times, the closest I got was I picked up the first stone and died. I only got that far because I was somehow lucky enough to predict where the AoEs were going to land, and get out of the way in time.

I have found that pointing the camera far up, so I can see the black rain over my head, helps, but the red circles don’t reflect the size of the black rain, so I can be out of it and still die. On top of this, I imagine that it would be increasingly difficult to keep the camera pointed upwards once the battle starts getting more hectic.

All of the other gauntlet fights were quite easy – I finished them all in about 1-3 attempts each. This one isn’t just a lot more difficult, but it’s apparently legitimately impossible for me, since I can not see the massive AoE that one shots me :/. For that, I am quite… frustrated… at the design of this content.

As someone who is partially colorblind and had a lot of trouble seeing the red circles this is what I did…

Phase 1
- The shadowfall attack will always start on the opposite side of the light field. The 2nd shadowfall will always be on the lightfield. Shadowfall never hits the same spot twice; in phase 1 it always goes one side then, opposite side, (Looks like a / in 1+2 turns) afterwards it does the same thing but in a way that finishes the X (looks like a \ in turns 3+4.) After the X is formed it restarts. If you pay attention to where the AoE hits (can easily see the giant shadows falling) you can always predict either 2 or 3 safe areas

Phase 2
- This is much harder to start when you can’t see the red circles, but once you understand the pattern it is much easier. Shadowfall now covers 2 areas. On odd turns it will look like / (2 aoes opposite of each other) and on even turns it will look like \ (also 2 aoes opposite of each other). If you can’t see the red unfortunately you’ll have to guess at the very start of the transition which area is safe unless you have an invuln or use your dodges correctly. However, after the 1st shadowfall you always want stand where the latest shadowfall occured. Basically you just kite the boss around in a circle making sure you run to where the AoE just occured.

And make sure you kill the rifts/pulls the moment they appear in phase 2 or it will really screw you over.

In other words the trick is to focus on the pattern not on the AoE circles.

Thanks a lot… You remind me someone said “when the environment pushes you to the limit, you will be able to make it.”

For me it doesn’t feel as if Liadri isn’t the problem.
The boss is fine, but where Anet messed up was the Arena itself.
Poorly designed… hard to see AOE floors, a cramped camera angle that screws over Norn and Charr.
Being in the same instance as everything else so the framerate gets shot for a lot of people when you have your entire server below you fighting a champion.

I have to say this makes me a lot better…

Well.. I feel that they are too difficult to see, due to the color and pattern on the floor. I can’t either tell the time or location they appear, the best I can do is to tell that there may be something red around…

For me, when the screen gets blurred it’s easier to see the red circled area, since the red circles glow..

Can this be fixed somehow? I have been trying it for about 30 times but I really can’t do it. By the way, I personally have some problem identifying colors, not so bad as color blind but I sometimes get very lost in fragmented color patterns. But it’s still very frustrating to fail the challenge due to it.

PvP Part of GW2 Should Go Free

i’d have to disagree with this idea too, sorry

there’s a number of people that bought this game for pvp, no matter what state it’s in, to make the pvp aspect free would cause alot of anger not only in the pvp community, but to the community in general because it would have allowed many people to “test run” the game before they bought it

there are some easy solutions to this problem. for example free players can only pick from a few pre-moded appearances for each profession but fully customize their characters. And they don’t have access to honor vendors until they pay some gem to unlock it. And Anet can add some features for fully purchased players only, for example, titles, or, weapon models which are available for them only.

bad idea IMO if the pond was bigger i might not be the best fish?

all this would do is bring in way to many ppl. there would be more games all day better ppl would be discovered and teams might be made in NA.

nothing about this idea is good except for everything

It’s not about being a better player. It’s just that you need so many people playing to make the game competitive. Not only players but the ones watching the games, and even the screaming fans in such big championship events. You just need more people to make it like an esport game.

Dota 2 is in beta…

but I am pretty sure that it will go free to play after release. Or it won’t match League of Legend.

Still, as I said, the size of the community is essential to esport games.

I am saying this very seriously.

The PvP part of this game is now in an awkward situation. Hardcore players and teams are so skilled while the community is so small. This makes beginners very difficult to join into it, as they are unlikely to win any game. The only solution I believe is to introduce more people to join into it – as many as possible. That’s why I suggest to release the PvP part for free.

And, at the same time, the community needs a reasonable ranking system, to differ skilled plays from beginners, so they can match to their comparable opponents. Elo rating system, for example, is a pretty simple and practical system can be used.

I am really looking forward to a gw2 pvp championship or something.

====

sorry, i just realized I didn’t make it clear enough. My idea is to make the pvp part f2p, with free players have limited access to the game, and combine with some PvP related services in Black Lion Store. For example, they can only pick from a few premoded appearances for each class but fully customize their characters. And they don’t have access to honor vendors until they pay some gem to unlock it. And Anet can add some features for fully purchased players only, for example, titles, or, weapon models which are available for them only.

Some of the services can be introduced into Black Lion Store include new skill skins, costumes, finishers, and other toys that doesn’t effect on the actual fights. Think about it, pay for 5 dollars and your ele will be able to throw blue or dark purple fire balls. I believe it’s pretty attractive even for the players who bought the game already.

Still, the games need to be totally fair despite if you bought the game or not. That’s the spirit of Esport games. But upon that, there are lots of things that people are willing to pay for. Just look at League of Legend, a f2p pvp game, which is the most profitable game all over the world nowadays.

Pristine Relics and Mists Essences

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

The new added Pristine Relic token exchanging in FotM is exiting. that means there is guaranteed reward after some work. But I just feel it’s not a good enough mechanic, since nobody will need more than 20 of them (except hardcore collectors). Meanwhile, I still feel the pink mats randomly dropped in the dungeon is too difficult to get.

There, I suggest to add the pink mats exchange for Pristine Relics as well. Is there anybody think this is reasonable?
