Guardian vs Warrior in PVP

There isn’t much in the way of definitive 1v1 who is better than who, since utility skills and weapon choice GREATLY impact how a class performs.

For instance – your guardian built around blocking, conditions and control may annihilate that greatsword / rifle burst dps warrior. However, if that same warrior changed tactics and switched to a bit more kiting and control of his own to prevent your blocking – he might come out on top.

In short – the above example is completely made up – but the point is even 2 warriors can have completely different skill sets and playstyles, so class vs. class isn’t really a remotely accurate comparison.

Guardian has some great utility and support skills – some would argue the best. As I understand it they can also do some impressive damage via Greatsword – but where they shine is support and utility.

So to answer your questions directly…

1. How well do Guardians hold up in PVP? Very well, highly survivable with many options for various situations.
2. Sure, depending on build and skills any class can beat any class some of the time.

I have no idea how to level.

I’m leveling at a snails pace, suggestions and recommended areas to clear that you found to provide loads of xp.
Thanks in advance!

Short Answer: Do Everything

Detailed: Use hearts as waypoints, they tell you what level stuff is around them – that’s your basic guide. Head to a heart, don’t focus on it, just gather every resource and kill to your hearts content, do every single event that pops up around you. At some point you’ll complete that heart, go ahead and head to a new one – meanwhile keep gathering every single resource, and doing every single event – you may get sidetracked.

That’s good! Eventually you’ll be un-sidetracked, head back towards that next heart.

As long as you’re gathering everything you see, killing random mobs you run across, and doing every event that comes your way you should EASILY finish 100% explore on a map well above it’s intended level range. As a bonus you’ll also complete your daily achievements every day without even really trying.

Hello, I just recently started playing with a friend and we found out we cant seem to enter each others story quest.. Is there something I’m doing wrong because I’ve done a little bit of searching and I’ve seen people saying you can..

I make him party leader and he walks in then i walk in and it takes me to my home and him to his(Which happens to be where the story quest is)

I already beat the equivalent to what quest hes on

Any help please?

It doesn’t matter who the party leader is, as long as you are both on the same server (normal or overflow) and both in the same zone – a prompt should appear on both of your screens with an invitation for your party members to join. They can either choose to join or opt out.

Only requirements are (1) being in the same party (2) being in the same server (3) being in the same zone

Personally – I like warrior for diverse combo finishers and amazing crowd control. Mesmer for insane control via things like moa and feedback.
Necro for more debuffs, kiting, aoe and the dark fields.
Guardian for someone to soak some kitten with blocks, random spot healing and decent control.
With engineer at the end filling in with a little bit of everything.

"Tanks" needed for dungeons?

I think it’s already been said a few times – but you absolutely do not NEED a tank or healer – i would even call someone claiming to tank a bold-faced lie. No matter how defensive you go, mobs are going to hurt.

What you do need to do – is make sure everyone in the party is fully aware they need to be responsible for keeping themselves alive through healing and condition removal. Then you need to make sure at least some of the party members have some means of control – fear, stun, cripple, daze, knockdown, etc.

Kiting & Control is the name of the game.

Last boss fight of Twilight Arbor was ROLLING me and my friends last night, repeatedly. Switched up our skills sets a bit – i equipped my bolas for an immobilize on one of the melee bosses, along with my fear when they got close to other people, then used my rifle spec’d for piercing attacks so I could use it’s movement slow to help kite them while the other bosses were killed.

Used that along with having a few people equip their elite skills that summon allies – fight became a breeze.

Thing I’ve noticed in dungeons here – they’re all different, and it just comes down to knowing what skills are needed in which fights.

Also. Boulders.

One last little curiosity before I get into it :)

I dislike playing the class that is most common.
I guess it just makes me feel a bit less unique and useful when joining a group and there are a bunch of others quite similar to me!
I know this game is based around skill, and so it wont be much of an issue but that doesnt change how I feel about this so I have pretty much ruled out Warrior as I hear they are the most common and I’m ok with that, but does anyone know:
Are there any official statistics anywhere about population? Statistics that rank the classes in most commonly used from 1 to 8 would be amazing! However as this probably is not publically listed anywhere, so opinions are more than welcome too. Thanks guys, looking forward to making my decision tomorrow

According to the surveys I’ve seen – class popularity as follows:

1. Warrior
2. Thief (very close w/ guardian)
3. Guardian
4. Elementalist
5. Ranger
6. Engineer
7. Necromancer
8. Mesmer

How to use Rush & Bull's Charge?

As much as it seems straightforward, the vast majority of times using these skills, I miss. I first thought it was an issue with people moving around in PVP, but I tried them on NPC’s where I’d mostly been using axes before, and Rush more often than not overshoots a stationary target, swinging the sword on the other side. Charge will apply knockdown but it still goes past them, swinging the sword at air. Then by the time I turn around and run into range, they’re either up or getting up.

Is it possible to break your skills or something?

Hey good question!

This is it how you do it -

For Rush – you hit the ability, then you have to hit it a 2nd time to cancel the charge motion as you get to the enemy. It sounds trickier than it is, the problem is the rush wants to charge it’s full distance before swinging, so if you’ll get to the enemy prior to that, you have to cancel the move – which then starts the swing.

Bull Rush – can have a similar effect, but honestly I don’t find myself needing to cancel it at all for the knockdown to go off it’s usually pretty solid with it’s collision detection. However, if you’re having a lot of issues you CAN use the same method.
