And why should we only care about high ranked matches? I mean there is maybe 5% of playarbase represented at higher levels and you want to balance PvP around them? Around 5%? Really?

Because you can’t balance a game properly arround players that have no idea what they are talking about and no idea, how the game works. It is simply not possible. And because all of those players have – at least on paper – the chance to improve and L2P. Nobody is forced to stay a clueless noob …

No matter how many times people say that, condi is never going to be ok for certain specs.

But people don’t complain about certain specs. They complain about condis in general. And that’s a L2P issue without doubt.

Duels are often not planned. They begin as fights between roamers or because some people who know each other from previous dueling sessions meet on the battlefield. Then if someone starts dueling, others can join and watch or start dueling themselves. This doesn’t work in OS. If you go there, looking for duels, it will be empty most of the time, because it is unlikely to have multiple people with the same idea at exactly the same moment. So you leave, because standing there and waiting is super boring. If somebody else comes, maybe just seconds after you left, he will find an empty OS too and will leave for the same reason. If you don’t find anyone to duel in EB or the borderlands it doesn’t matter, because there is plenty of other stuff to do. Also some players might enjoy a few duels from time to time, but wan’t to go back to whatever else they enjoy doing after a short time. If they go to OS they might have to wait in a long queue when they want to go back to their usual business. Dueling in OS only works if you set up the duels beforehand. Similar applies to guild halls.

Sometimes duels still take place in OS or guild halls, but the actual WvW maps are a lot more convenient. And duels don’t hurt anyone unless somebody gets upset just by the existence of those players. But well, that’s not an issue with dueling then …

If you want to improve, sure, come Vabbi.

If someone wants to actually improve, he should play against good players instead of joining them. Getting carried doesn’t make you better.

If all those “good” wvw players/guilds would actually seek for good fights, they would split across the servers and fight each other instead of stacking on one and then farming casual pugs that simply don’t care enough.

Did you actually test it? Can you provide some numbers? No? What a surprise …

Btw, of course some dire builds will deal more dps (which is irrelevant in actual pvp combat anyways, otherwise everyone would run pve dps builds, but whatever) than certain soldier builds, but for some classes/builds it can be the other way arround. So the general statement that dire grants more dmg/dps than soldier is simply wrong. It always a matter of the build and situation, not just gear or condis in general, but that’s something, many don’t seem to understand.

Besides no cheating was done. The abjured players were going to win no matter what…..they just decided that $400 > in game rewards. Can’t fault ppl for that cause every single one of us would have done the same thing.

Thief isn’t weak vs condition dmg. They can’t tank much dmg, regardless if it is power or condi dmg, but if well played, they have enough tools to survive against any kind of dmg by avoiding the hits in the first place.

90% of complaints about condis are a L2P issue. It has been like this since release. Condi builds could be utter crap and people would still die and complain, because they don’t want to learn for whatever reason. It is pretty obvious that many people in threads like this have no clue what actually kills them. Instead of mentioning those op skills and traits, everyone is just talking about condis in general. As if conditions come out of nowhere and every single condi will instakill someone …

It’s rather amusing honestly, It’s like they think we don’t know there is this thing called a combat breakdown, which very clearly states all incoming damage.

Death break down shows all condition damage added up from the whole fight, but direct dmg seperated for each skill, that’s why condis are almost always on top even if it is not what actually killed you. Better don’t try to use those meaningless numbers as argument …

Condition gear (Dire/TB) alone offeres zero dmg. Yes, absolutely no dmg, so even less than soldiers. Why? Because without condition application a build won’t deal any condition dmg no matter what stats. It is different for power, because pretty much every attack deals at least some direct dmg (I know, there are very few exceptions). Of course not all attacks are equally efficient in dealing power dmg, but the difference is not as huge compared to conditions.

You can not compare gear stats in a vacuum and claim A is better than B. Put dire and soldier on the same build and what’s better will depend entirely on the build, not on the gear. Gear doesn’t define builds. It supplements builds and can make op builds even stronger, but it is not what makes said builds op in the first place. So please stop arguments like dire is better than soldier or dire deals more dmg than zerker and stuff like that, because it is absolute nonesense. It always depends on the build (class, skills, traits, …) and those builds can and should be balanced arround existing gear.

Removing gear might tone down a few op builds, but it will also destroy lots of already weak builds. It won’t increase balance, it will just hurt diversity.

If a dh (or anything else) just sits on a point, his team has to fight 4vs5, which means easy +1 and kills for the thief. That’s the best way to lose a game and the opposite of countering a thief.

The best counter to thief is another thief.

Damage numbers aren’t really the issue. The issue is when DOT can be as effective (if not more) than DPS while also having full Dire, or Trailblazer gear equipped.

I guess to put it in perspective- imagine a power class at 50% crit chance and 200% crit damage wearing wanderer gear.

A zerk warrior can achieve similar defensive stats as a dire thief, while dealing a lot more damage. Stats and numbers alone don’t determine how good or bad a build is though, otherwise warrior would be always the most op, regardless of build, while ele would be the weakest class, just because of the difference in base stats.
It is mainly a combination of certain skills and traits that determine the capability of a build. And those should be looked at when discussing balance. Which of course would require an understanding of how those builds work …

Removing attribute combinations doesn’t improve balance. It only limits diversity.

Changing scoring, be it PPT or PPK or whatever else, doesn’t improve the gameplay. If you don’t like the scoring system just ignore it, it is meaningless anyway.

Usually you want different builds for PvE and PvP/WvW, so you might want to consider running different classes for those types of game modes (or the same class but not condi only).

If you really want only 1 class and condi only, i would recommend warrior or necro. Both have condi builds that are at least “ok’ish” in all gamemodes, even though they are not the most mobile in WvW, so that can be an issue in outnumbered situations. Necro pairs well with supportive classes in wvw roaming, like tempest, druid, scrapper or maybe even dh. Warrior can be paired with anything.

Condi mesmer is great for WvW roaming and PvP, but not that good for PvE (usually mesmer should run supportive builds there).
Condi ranger/druid is great for PvE, but bad in PvP/WvW. Power druid is pretty decent for roaming though. Similar goes for engi/scrapper.
Guards and thieves are better of going power in all game modes, but condi works too in WvW.

The ability to burst down a bad or surprised target doesn’t make a build good (otherwise your precious signet thief would be still good too, right?). Even if it can work in WvW. But all classes have the tools to avoid and/or survive most of your dmg while being able to counter pressure relatively safe. Especially common roaming classes/builds. Necro lacks that kind of “safe” pressure though, especially when build full glass. Shroud is supposed to provide it, but tanking just doesn’t work that well against the powercreep in form of high dmg, tons of cc and condis.
It’s surely a fun build though and i might try it myself.

Spiteful Renewal as adept trait in spite was an accident i guess? Because both other traits would make more sense there. And wouldn’t air and/or hydromancy sigil with full zerk gear better than valk trinkets and accuracy sigils? I guess it is to maximise the ferocity gain from food, while maintaining 50/100% critchance, but the additional crit dmg is so minor, that air/hydro would definitely add more dmg to your burst and the additional 1k hp won’t do much for your survivability either.

Srsly, in the past most groups/zergs where running – condi duration food and melandru or soldier rune and tons of aoe clear and condis were basically non-existent in group play. Those things still exist. But now everyone runs durability rune and boon duration/dmg reduction food for as much (often passive) boons as possible while barely taking (aoe) condi cleanse and people still expect condis to be something ignoreable. Really?

Uhm, conditions don’t magically appear on the enemy, you actually have to hit him in order to apply conditions. And even if you manage to apply some condis, he can easily cleanse them. So yea, good luck killing an evade spamming EA daredevil with condis. With physical dmg you have at least a small chance to burst him down when you hit him at the right moment.

EU WvW Server for Solo Roaming?

He is right though. Zergs can be found everywhere, just like 1vs1 can be found everywhere. Smaller or less zergs doesn’t automatically result in more solo players. And from my experience it is more small groups that tend to hunt solo players, not the big zergs.
But if you want to play on a less populated server you shouldn’t join deso, for obvious reasons. Just look at the ranking and choose one of the servers at the bottom.

Nah, the damage on epi is fine, my group can sustain through several epi bombs in a row no problem if we coordinate our cleanses well enough, but the problem I find is that it has no counterplay. It’s unblockable. You don’t even need a brain to press the epidemic button. Make it blockable and increase the cast time by like 0.25 seconds, it will balance itself out.

It has already a long casttime and an obvious animation, which makes it not that easy to pull of a good epi bomb, because the target might dodge or moves out of range, or you get blinded or the target dies or it can get cleansed before the cast is finished, which will negate most if not all dmg from this skill. Epi requires a lot more timing and coordination than any other aoe skill and there is tons of counterplay. It doesn’t need to be countered by random aegis procs in addition. It is only easy to use if you can epi siege or lords, but not against actual players.

Ranged character advice

There isn’t really a pure ranged class. When you want to solo open-world-pve stuff you can play basically all classes with a ranged weapon, even your warrior (longbow or rifle). Necro and ranger are the easiest classes for this kind of playstyle i guess, because they got minions/pets for distracting the enemies. However when you plan to do instanced content with a party, camping at range isn’t advised because pretty much all classes can deal more dmg in melee range and you can share buffs and boons with your allies, which you couldn’t if you stay too far away. If you can find a group, where people don’t care about efficient gameplay, you can still do dungeons and fractals with a pure ranged charakter, but many players won’t accept your playstyle.

Which necro runs arround with 12k hp? Are you talking about lowlevel/downscaled chars? Btw, Consume Conditions applies only 5 stacks of vuln for a few seconds, idk where you get those 25% more dmg from. Actually the self applied blind is the only really annoying thing imo and it keeps me from using MoC in WvW.

Forget those pets – they will die instantly in the frontline. You can try bears – bown bear offers aoe condi clear, murrelow an aoe poison field. But even bears tend to not survive larger zerg fights. And i would definitely swap WS out for either Skirmishing (QD, Spotter, traited Healing Spring) or Beastmastery (traited shouts for aoe regen/condi remove with soldier rune, quickness, GS trait). For both the master and grandmaster trait from the druid line i would choose any of the other traits than those you have taken. And probably it is better to focus more on healing power, because your dmg will be negligible anyways.

I have tried something similar (more focused on healing/support though) and the main issues in pug zergs are:

1. people tend to be too spread out to make good use of the mostly clunky heals
2. No/too little stability – frontline ranger will always rely on allies for enough stab and in pug zergs you often won’t get it – especially because commanders tend to put rangers in pure ranger/thief/other “useless classes”/…-groups.

Ascalonian Weapons don’t glow blue at night in Ember Bay. Just a minor issue, but still worth mentioning imo. Maybe other “at night” effects aren’t working either, haven’t checked it though.

Necros might be mechanically less demanding than some other classes, but they require more “thinking” to be good, due to less escapes/“oh kitten” buttons/passive procs than most other common classes. And while it is true, that necro is kinda designed for “facetanking”, it doesn’t really work in the current dmg/burst heavy meta. Only bad necros will facetank, good ones will try to avoid dmg, if possible with the given limitations of the class.

Btw, most meta builds are very forgiving and “noob-friendly”. Necro is by far not the worst offender.

The same could happen with the current linking system, if players continue to leave. In EU they already deleted another tier last month. Server merging wouldn’t “fix” WvW – but it would create a more stable system like we had before the linkings, just without “dead” servers". Doesn’t mean they can’t or haven’t continue to work on WvW.

I’ve bolded the issue. There’s nothing to make the population spread out and that is what made WvW like it was before HoT.

Transfer costs to high population servers will be higher than costs for low population servers (like it was before linking), which will probably discourage some from transferring up. Now it is just too cheap to transfer to small guest servers which are linked to big servers.

Of course server merge wouldn’t solve many issues, but i think it would be better than the current linking system, which is just a big mess. Of course it sucks, if old server communities are destroyed, but at least merging gives a chance to build up new and halfways stable communities. More frequent relinkings and a 1-up-1-down matchmaking system would make it even worse in terms of (un)balanced matchups.

Good revs would eat this build alive. No stunbreaker, no stab, no mobility, no defense and relying on high casttime abilities and wells, both easy to avoid, to kill an enemy won’t work against anybody with a decent build who knows how to play – rev or any other class. You would get cc’ed and bursted to death before you even get a chance to remove some boons.

It’s imbalanced because of player choice…

Players barely have a choice, if the want to stand a chance. If you don’t run a boon share/spam composition yourself, you will just get mowed down by meta zergs of the same size, regardless of how much boon strip you take.
And there is only one single way for some kind of mass boon remove and that’s lich form 5, a skill with huge cooldown (180 seconds) and very obvious animation, so easy to counter, and even if it can work, you still need boon spam yourself to keep the necros alive. Other boon remove skills are either single target only (even if you can spike someone down, he can get ressed instantly) and/or remove only 1 or 2 boons, so you have to be super lucky to get rid of the important ones that are covered by a bunch of other boons.
