Actually, EVE online has virtually unlimited 21-day trials. No chat restrictions, mild trade restrictions. Very little gold-seller spam.

Three components to their solution:
1) Right click on a person’s name in chat, select “Report ISK (gold) Spammer”, the person is immediately hidden from your chat retroactively, and I believe a certain number of such reports auto-hides from all player’s chats retroactively. Also, the bot is swiftly permabanned, IP block noted, etc.
2) Legal RL cash → ISK (gold) conversion. Much like GW2’s Gems→Gold conversion.
3) 1 harshly nerfs global spam, but personal mail-spam is still an issue, so they charge a small fee to message someone you don’t have as a friend/guild member/etc, this is a fee that’s significant to new trial players, but irrelevant to established players.

Basically, a decent trial is possible, if the devs are willing to put in the effort for spambot-fighting.

Btw, algorithms for spotting web-urls are easy, but it’s a bit tricker to spot obfuscated URLs commonly used by bots. eg. vv vv vv dot thisisnotagoldwebsite dot me, or other human-readable but not easily machine-readable obfuscations.

If they remove limitations so probably you always be in all servers dragon events. So cross limitations is one of reasons that players do less farming for dragon events.

I’m having trouble parsing that sentence, but I think you’re saying that cross-region play would allow more farming? If so, perhaps that’s an issue, but it’s far less of an issue than the region limitation causes for many players.

Kal, Guesting does not work for all servers. It only works in one region, thereby splitting the players into 5 or so arbitrary groups.

I get it....I'm dead. Thanks.

By the way, spinning camera can cause virtual motion sickness in some players.
My wife has not yet been in a dungeon since the changes (the way it’s been changed is really discouraging), but I expect it to pretty much stop her from doing dungeons if the camera spins constantly while dead. Please let people turn this off in the options.

Is there any chance the devs will be fixing this problem?

On Piken Square, the NPC seems to think his apprentice is off collecting more cows (during which I should be able to use the cattlepult), the apprentice thinks he’s off collecting more cows too.

But he’s not, he’s just walking in circles around the cattlepult. So it’s stuck in the not-firing, no-event, can’t-use state.

Can I just point out how dumb it is to make a map completion element time-dependant? It’s a neat idea for a vista, but it’s a PITA that you have to wait or repeatedly visit it to get past this.

Also, this could have probably been fixed in a few minutes if the game had a proper GM-petition system, wth is up with that?

The dynamic event doesn’t seem to be triggering. I’ve been checking it yesterday and today, watched it for about half an hour yesterday. Nothing happened.
Pretty sure I’ve already done this event anyway.

This is a really annoying roadblock to map completion.

There’s a server that hosts Europe and a server that hosts USA. This is impossible to do. And even if it was possible it would have lots of problems (like a ping higher than 2000).

Perhaps read the whole OP before posting?

I am already on a foreign-region server (US player on EU server), the latency is minor. So there is definitely no issue with people playing on a foreign-region server. The limitation is there because A-Net has two different character databases.

To the other (sensible) point: yes, they might have trouble allowing cross-server guesting and that might be difficult to fix. That’s why I suggested above that if they cannot for some reason fix the problem preventing them from doing cross-region guesting, then they should start allowing players to create characters on each region, instead of on exactly one server. This should be simple(ish) to code, is actually still more limited than the genre-standard of creating characters on every world.

Players have friends in multiple regions, and A-Net shouldn’t be making it impossible for them to play together.
Eg. I am unable to play with my EU friends, and my US friends, without either: Paying 500 gems every week to server hop (insane), paying for a second account (ridiculous), or forcing half of my friends to move servers (unreasonable)

Either allow players to create characters on all available regions, or remove the cross-region limitation on guesting.

One or both of these should be an easy change to make, and it fixes the problems with players being unable to play with their friends in other regions – which is, in this age of the internet, a very common thing.

I can understand that it is likely a technical limitation which prevented this in the Guesting feature, but by forcing one-server-per-player, A-Net has created this problem themselves.

(PS: There is no major lag issue on cross-region play, I have personally been playing happily cross-region since joining)

Those people comparing GW2’s server move to other games should consider that most MMOs allow you to create multiple characters split across multiple servers. If you want to play with a friend on another server, you need only create another character for free.

GW2 is unique among games I’ve played, in restricting you to only creating characters on one server.

Therefore it’s a bit silly that they charge 500 gems on average (somewhere between 5-10 gold, ie, more money than most characters will have made in the first 60-70 levels) for a feature that is not quite as good in most circumstances as most games give for free (but equal in some less common circumstances to a service those games charge more for).

I personally, do not want or need to move my characters across servers, I just need to be able to play with my friends without these frustrating arbitrary borders.
