It amazes me how so many people are clueless on how to counter gears. I just won a 1 v 7 using gears.

Then the same 7 came back and one of their guys had gears to spam at me. I know how to counter and defeated them a 2nd time in a row.

The only legitimate complaints I can see about Gears is that they do damage to multiple targets (which can be more DPS than your normal move combinations) and appear to be able to hit enemies while in stealth.

pfft 1v7 is easy mode i just 1v14 let me know when you want to get together and i’ll give you some free lessons.

We are definitely keen but concerned about the quality of WVW in general for when no groups are out roaming. In t1 there is already an active (albeit sparse) 5man scene.

T1 is a total zerg fest.. I’ve played on JQ and SOR ,SOR has TONS of good players (IE TW,KOMF,ETC) its still large groups VS groups. I am all for this and coming from DAOC lancelot the home of the 8man i hope this comes true.

Transfer servers to a lower tier. No queues. Small enough zergs that culling doesn’t have massive effects.

thought it was 10 last night turned into 30.. we were already mid faceroll so we couldnt pull off either

Because people like to complain online…

WvW is about big armies fighting big armies. Do smaller ‘havoc squads’ and ‘kill teams’ have a place? Absolutely.
But, if said small team runs into a 30+ person zerg, and tries to stand their ground (for whatever reason) then the odds should not be in their favor.
Sure, skill can help. Good tactics on the part of the small team can help. And hell, despite the odds, the small team /could/ manage to come out on top. It’s not an impossibility.
But that should never be an automatic thing, even if it is just because of sheer overwhelming numbers.
Zergs are here to stay, whether you like them or not. If you never want to deal with the fact they you might be outnumbered and overwhelmed, then sPvP is over that way…

Even the games mentioned used “extend groups” to wipe superior numbers. No one “stood their ground”.

The issue in GW2 for elite 5-mans, currently, is threefold:

1.) Causing a player to overextend does nothing as they are revived by the wave flooding over them (dead player should not be rezzable from defeated in combat, downed state, sure, but not totally defeated.).

2.) The current rendering issues (mistakenly called culling) make it impossible to tell exactly where the “front” of the pursuing zerg is. This makes it nearly impossible to effectively “kite” the whole zerg.

3.) Aoe caps make it so that AOE CC applied, only affects 5 players. If groups could snare an entire zerg with an aoe, a 5-man, if well played, could force a zerg to “extend” making the numbers more manageable. They’d then only have to deal with a few overextenders, then rinse and repeat.

As I said I don’t care I expect to be AJ, but don’t come here crying about zergs or whatever Jsculls next QQ of the hour will be. Your as guilty as the zergs. Sure it happened alot in DAoC, but 8v8 generally didn’t AJ another 8 man fighting a zerg, unless said 8 man had done something (such as AJ previously) to warrant the actions. I’m fine with it if thats the way you play, your entitled to play that way, but it is not going to help your cause with getting more small mans out giving you fair fights.

Im still trying to remember a time that the 3rd realm didnt AJ a 8v8.. Merlin and Lancelot must not have followed this code… i do recall 8mans of the same realm not AJ’ing each others fights.

Meh, we ran 5 and hit PAXA was close, they pulled a win. 20 min later were still running 5 come across about 15 and we start laying waste. Things are going good the 15 are dying fast then all of a sudden we start dropping, at first everyone figured meh squished between mini zergs. Nope, turns out it was PAXA AJ’ing our uphill battle, this is why you guys will not get many chances to fight 5 vs. 5.

There is absolutely nothing worse then a 5/8 man (depending on game) who is eager to find 5 mans to fight, but is willing to AJ another 5 man as they fight clearly 2-3X their numbers.

This was friday night, and it saddens me. Oh and to clear it up, I don’t care about being AJ’d, but it makes a world of difference when its the guys asking for small mans to fight.

im trying to remember the time when we were fighting 8v8 or 8vzerg and another realm showed up and didnt AJ… fast forward to 10 minutes into the video below and thats how i remember old school daoc..

ZERGING CANNOT be the best way to rank up or get points. It needs to be based on points per kill etc.. A smaller group gets more points for kills etc…

Also taking keeps/towers/camps should give little or NO points.. There is already alot empty keep/tower/camp taking last thing we want is WARHAMMER 2.0.

So many thing in this post that doesn’t make sense.

PAXA 10-15 players group? What? I didn’t see them run with more then 5-6 players.

I saw it last night. I do solo & party roaming when I take breaks from commanding, and that’s been most of my activities this week.

BP had southwest borderland waypoint, and NSP had southeast. Three-way fights in the field by southwest tower. Without a commander, we stomped some of PAXA’s people at the rock by southwest tower, and chased the elementalist all the way to southeast waypoint, where 10 or more PAXA were stacked and waiting. A fun fight followed.

PAXA runs more than one party, and sometimes they converge. So do we.

OHH PHEW thought you were talking about the group i was in…. Dylic you zerger..

anyways tho seeing as how the 2 5 mans running were in different zones last night im just stumped on how that could be possible..

PAXA: a group of 10-15 people, going out of their way to stealth-portal kill groups of 3-5 people in the exact same areas where there is absolutely no challenge.

I have really tried to understand how this group of people can even have fun killing upscaled noobs and avoiding conflict with groups equal their numbers while NSP has been 3/3 since the beginning of time in BP/AR/NSP bracket.

I mean, how much fun can you have seeking fights with the odds in your favor, while offering nothing to your server?

I have been recently running small CoM roaming groups of 3-5 to practice our pvp skills and most of the times we have seen PAXA, it was something like 10-15 of them chasing random people around the map. And when the fight was equal in numbers they ran away like chickens. I mean, whenever i fought a PAXA 1v1, it was mostly me chasing him down back to their group. pathetic, really…

Go help your server, cap a keep or something???

Im yet to be in a group with PAXA members that have ran from equal numbers but ok…..

some people who play this game came from daoc and enjoy the open field fighting or bombing a keep thats under siege even if its not theirs etc.. dropping rams and waiting for a door to drop while getting wtf aoe pummeled or “RVDOOR” isnt everyones cup of tea thats just a fact get over it already its been how many weeks ?

Dovgan, I actually gave credit to your ranger the other night in vent. Said you last longer than most, even solo. But we are here to kill. PAXA is driven by # of kills /night, that’s the only thing that matters to us. If you are red and in our visual, you are #10,634 for me, even up to 12,001 for two of our guys.

The only player, Hammerhorn, that has been relatively impressive from VS has been the black robed mesmer. The verdict isn’t out for the rest of the guild, simply just a mob of mindless zergers (aka burger-eaters).

Thats funny you say that I hardly run with zergs . B/c of Culling and crappy FPS . Plus the chaos that zergs bring.

I sit back and I look at paxa and think ok whats another guild like them that I have faced . AD NoQQ Larps Envy all premade all faced each other in tier 8 the differents between thos guilds and PAXA is paxa runs Fotm builts and classes. While AD made the hammer stomp .

Culling and downed state need to be wokred on asap.. We had 25+ downed and one us died and poof everyone was back alive.

Otherwise fun first night on our new server. looking forward to more 5-10man stuff.

Yes for sure they need to fix Culling and downed wouldnt say take downed out yet does needs to have a hard look at.

P.S.

Downed state doesnt need to be eliminated but i think rally should be..

The problems I have seen in the past with gaining rank thru objective capping is people stop attacking defended keeps. Taking defended location is hard and slows gains so people don’t do it and that then devolves into objective swapping.

Well gaining thru kills means people do defend and attack since its a good way to get kills if you defending or to draw people out if your attacking.

Totally agree.
While Capping should be rewarded, some shouldnt forget its already a reward in itself obtaining a fortified structure, fortifying the whole thing, the potential to gain WvW server points and attracting the enemy…
-> which might/will result in good rewards for the battles happening around/for it.

Thats why killing players, defending and holding an objective should be more rewarding.

But maybe upscale rewards the longer an objective didnt switched sides for both defenders and attackers?
This way good defended points will rise in interest.

YA but in this scenario the end result will be turtling…….. Why attack when i get nothing when i can defend and gets lots even if i have to wait.. end result you have large amounts of defenders sitting in towers not doing anything…. stalemate ftl. Only reward for player kills… If red attacks blue and blue defends theres kills from both sides and rewards.. red wins fight they get kills and get rewarded.. blue wins they get kills and get rewarded..

Old schoolers from DAOC, the root of the problem here is that the “PvP” culture has vastly changed since our REAL days of open. EZ mode has been introduced, objective swapping has been introduced, “Everyone’s equal” has been introduced. Good news from reading these forums, is there are still alot of 8maners we see out speaking up. THANK GOD!

Wvdoor should not allow your character to become better at killing other players AT ALL! It should have value, i dont disagree there. Strategy, rewards even I agree. But the fact that someone could “earn” a better ability to nuke or aoe someone down, or even heal better in a fight simply by farming keeps or objectives is the “NEW PvP era of pvper’s mentality”. DAOC had its issues. Wasnt pefect, but when it came to pvp….it required real skill, real wit, real teamwork or you and your guild literally got laughed out of YOUR OWN server. This carebear- “everyone should be able to kill everyone” mentality is from gamemakers wanting 12 yr olds to be able to compete with competent, mature, experienced gamers. Simply to keep sales up. This is the closest a game has come to old school days in DAOC. I hope enough of us speak up and they learn that the demand is still out there although fewer than the carebears, it still exists.

I’m just glad they are updating maps to keep things fresh/interesting and putting such a strong focus on fixing bugs/exploits…..oh wait they are not.

Overall I would say they whole thing is rather disappointing (not just wvw) from the stand point of this being the next six months (thats it really?). But I kind of expected this already so not really disappointed.

I don’t really see any of this keeping the game from dieing like it has been, but oh well other games are coming out soon. And for Colin we all appreciate a couple of pages of investor bs/pr spin/useless hype.

i dont really understand everyones QQ about the maps but i guess good luck??
WvW is about killing each other not having new maps to kill each other in..
DAOC had the same kitten maps for years and when they changed to the “new frontiers” the new maps had a HUGE backlash and thousands left the game.

new age MMO players playing a WvWvW game are wierd yo.

Utmost WvW priorities:

- Eliminate culling
- Fix population imbalance
Anything else is secondary. ArenaNet can add all the carrot-on-a-stick systems they want, but at the end of the day if you can’t see your opponents, or if you can’t even compete because your team is outnumbered 5:1, then it’s all moot.

- Eliminate culling.— they are working on it
- Fix population imbalance.——give everyone 1 FREE XFer after that is used start charging. that way people who are on highly populated servers get the option to move to a smaller server to avoid queues. This will not eliminate but will help spread out the population as most groups who are just server hopping ( my guild included) will put alot of thought into their new home and will plan for the long haul.

Make prestige KILL BASED not objective based. RP’s were based on kills, ANYONE can get high Realm Rank based on keep doors.

How is it any better? This is another reason I am very unsure/unhappy with ranks.

Look at SWTOR for example… for your gear you had to do daily quests, originally the quests were for taking objectives and nothing else. People would stand and let each other take them, waiting for their turn to take it back. Then whined there was no PvP… even though the option was right infront of them but they didn’t take it because it didn’t give the reward…

So, they changed it to require kills instead. What happened next? Big groups of 30 players from each side would meet up and trade kills. So now they have to PvP, but they still choose not to actually do it.

It also brings another thing I hate about it, the whole “We just want the reward we don’t actually care about the fight” thing. If you add in ranks and rewards like this people will grind for them, then quit or whine they have nothing left to do. Sure there are people calling it make or break time for the game but those are the same people who quit 2-3 months into EVERY game, the ones who play purely for reward and not for the fun itself. They will always continue to do so, but putting in these reward levels forces others to do it too.

Now, I may be very wrong and it may all turn out very well balanced and very well thought out, the players may prove to be sensible. Personally at this stage I just see kill based rewards instead of objective based rewards creating kill trades/“duels” instead of keep trades. It also tends to push people towards certain classes/builds more as they can DPS like mad instead of support etc.

I loved the idea of the server rank instead of personal rank as it promotes teamplay but still allows people to cling onto their ego’s if they really have to.

RP farming in DAOC was a 5 day suspension.. Trust me people ratted each other out left and right it was a very minimal issue.

I played DAOC for 3-4 years and ran with a constant 8 man and had 2 toons with over 5 million RPS. Average RPS per kill was about 175-200 RPS 27777 kills to acieve RR9 300k to achieve RR13.

people will not be hitting RR13 in months….

1.) Up the AOE cap to 10.
2.) if you’re thinking of the DAOC style RR/abilities dont think just mirror it. (like someone said getting to RR5 was easy mode but getting from RR9-RR10 took forever and the increase was minimal)
3.) when i say mirror i mean in every way.. you have to kill players to get points.. none of this RVdoor stuff.. straight PVP in WvW. I guess killing sentrys could give a small amount etc.. Also if you solo someone you get more RP’s then if a zerg ROFLstomps a solo.. IE solo kill =250RPS, 25 man zerg roflstomps poor smuck they all get 10RP’s.

agree on the points should be from killing actual players instead of PvDoor…

I disagree the new abilities should be something minimal that dont give boost to classes, if someone dedicates to level up the renown level in WvW, why shouldn’t they be rewarded? These abilities should be character bound instead of account bound, if not at least make it accessible to real level 80 characters instead of letting lowbie level 2’s able to roam around with those abilities.

i stated in DAOC once you got all the goodies which you could get the really awesome tricks by RR5 the rest was mostly just stats improvements. This kept the casual player who is GOOD able to compete against the hardcore player who is also GOOD. Cant have a major swing from RRX to RRXX (remember im using RR5 as my baseline) because player skill gets diluted if the abilities get to OP.

player X is awesome, player XX is ok but player XX has zomg ubers RR abilities and facerolls his keyboard and destroys player X even tho player X is a better player. Make sense?

We moved servers in DAOC and once our 8 man was RR5+ we were beating the RR10 groups on our new server because we were better players,

I’m all for RR type stuff being added. Just REALLY hope it’s account based not character based. A lot of things are starting to surface in this game that seem to want you to put in a ton of work to acquire and are character based rather than account based.

What the game doesn’t need is even more mechanics discouraging you from making alts.

this works for me as well. back in DAOC groups were alot more “SET” you needed X to run with this type of group or that etc… Thats why most people in DAOC had 1 or 2 toons MAX so they could play in either group setup. also known as “MAINS”…
This game its truly grab who you can and it works.. So im all for this.

Furgerat…I dont think i could write anything other than i agree with everything you’re saying. So does our small man PAXA on NSP. We’re all voting for all the above.

Kill based ranks. PERIOD. When you kill someone, they should be killed. Shouldnt require us to do it twice. AOE cap gaaaaaaabye. Make the ranks seem impossible to accomplish. rr10 was millions of RP’s…And alot of people accomplished it. Just not the majority.

I remember when i got to RR5 in DAOC there was 3 major abilities that were MUST HAVES and you could get them at RR5. After that is was mostly fluff. Aug Strength/dex/con and so on.. so the increases in the big picture were minimal.. RR1-RR5 was like 520k RPS.. RR9-RR10 millions.. Someone find the old school DAOC RR chart that shows the breakdown please..

1.) Up the AOE cap to 10.
2.) if you’re thinking of the DAOC style RR/abilities dont think just mirror it. (like someone said getting to RR5 was easy mode but getting from RR9-RR10 took forever and the increase was minimal)
3.) when i say mirror i mean in every way.. you have to kill players to get points.. none of this RVdoor stuff.. straight PVP in WvW. I guess killing sentrys could give a small amount etc.. I feel you. When we moved up to T2, you have no idea how happy I was to be red, simply so that we started in a different position than green!

Anyone here from the ABSTRACT [BAMF] Guild? I just want to know why it is you guys keep jumping servers, I saw you in the last couple months playing for Yaks Bend, Then CD and now Blackgate…..

I informed our fearless leader of this post. More or less a small group of old DAOC players trying new servers out looking for some small man guilds to run with before they eliminate free Xfers.

1. Eliminate DPS in the downed state in WvW.
2. Eliminate rally in WvW (small mans need SOMETHING to counter zergs.. Kill 10 zerglings and 1 person in your group dies and poof magic everyone is alive again)
3. Make AOE hit 10 players not 5.
4. WTB a god kitten stick button!!!!
5. Reduce rez speed.
6. Some type of RA system. (not the the extreme of DAOC but maybe something like aug strength etc…)
7. Let me buy current PVP gear (valk berserker etc..) with badges.
8. Eliminate breakout event.

My opinion on WvW, in any tier really, is that it severely lacks that certain something DAoC had.

I think it’s mostly the fact that there is no true loyalty to one’s team, what with the ease of changing sides, the lack of any true “goal”, i.e. relic raids, any sort or wvw “progression” like realm points, and the social adhesion that each server and team had in DAoC.

That Hib, Alb or Mid pride that drove the core of RvR isn’t present here. GW2 is a nice diversion, but someone really needs to make a DAoC 2. The market is ripe for it, given the rise in popularity in a 3 way competition.

ya its missing some AOE mez or AOE stun and some major PBAOE that hits more than 5 people.. the zerg busting you could do in DAOC with sick Pain trains or bomb groups is what i miss most..

Also complaining about my healers for letting me die and not using there perfect rez on me.

ohhh how i miss the good old days

OHHHHHHHHHH i almost forgot 8v8’s and good old radar lol :P :P
