SoS vs SoR last week was a very imbalanced match, and I doubt you’ll find anyone who would disagree. Blackgate was meddling, Halloween was interrupting. One night SoR had everything, one night SoS had everything. It was a mess, and pretty unenjoyable. I hope both side can turn out at the same time this week, and I hope that SoS’s Oceanic guilds can respect PRX, who did an AMAZING job last week. I fought the NA primetime, I fought the Oceanic primetime, and there’s no doubt to which one we’re planning against more.

As someone who despises bad sportsmanship, I still see nothing wrong with spawn camping in this game. People are inaccurately saying that there are three exits from the spawn. That’s true of the south spawns, but on your home borderland, it’s a giant, wide-open expanse. Also, when you’ve taken everything, it’s how you keep the enemy at bay. If we do not spawn camp, we will get tons of enemies pouring across our camps and trying to ninja towers. Our numbers and power may be 3x higher, but we’ll still lose everything and not be able to fortify our north stuff very well. It’s a strategic decision, and anytime I’m in charge, I ask people to watch that camp and keep as many people in it as possible.

More importantly, this has been a much better week than it should have been. Thank you TC, and especially Pink, for keeping things interesting. You refused to give up, and kept the pressure on all the time. Your server owes you. Today showed the impact of the orbs, we saw red and blue both make pushed in EB, and blue took back a lot of their stuff in their border. Awesome last day to the match, I hope we can meet you again.

Oh, and EB was hilarious, I don’t know if anyone on either side was taking it all that seriously. Trebbing us as fought the Grub. UNDERHANDED TACTICS!

I have nothing but respect for you guys at TC. You just don’t give up.

For everyone saying SoR is unskilled and whatnot, don’t go thinking we’re taking the match all that seriously when we’ve locked in a mathematical win on day 4. I know my entire guild minus one person was in WvW with alts below level 50 today, and more than once people were asking others to let the enemies take towers. Towers can nullify numbers and allow us to properly pit our minds and our people against eachother, afterall.

Great defenses at Dawn’s. I’m sure by the time this week is up, you’ll be incapable of losing that tower to anyone at any time. o_o

Let’s get something straight. The people who have transferred to SoR over the past few weeks are not top tier guilds. They’re great, but you make it sound as if we got Titan Alliance. They’re very much the same as the rest of the guilds we already had, enough so that the server doesn’t even feel different.

What people fail to grasp is that SoR is not that great at WvW. But we are determined. Determined to fight, determined to win, and determined to get better, always. To my knowledge, by the way, we have ONE Oceanic guild, a Taiwanese guild, if I recall. They are not that large, either. What you fight during Oceanic primetime is the dedicated, determined NA players and our isolated Oceanic presence. We want to win, so we are here to fight anytime there’s a fight to be had.

Anytime we need more people, we can go into Lion’s Arch and Orr and call for help, and help will come. Not always is it enough, but last night for instance, we were outnumbered 2:1, and we went to appeal for aid. We had a grand increase in numbers and were able to slow the tide of SoS pouring across our lands, though not stop them completely for a couple more hours.

This server loves WvW and we are all there to help with the battle.

Also, this hacking crap. Stop it please. Everyone’s hacking, tired of it too, no one to blame here, ANet is doing its best and dang they drop the banhammer fast. Just report and move on. Hacking QQ, from my perspective, is literally less welcome on the forums than outright flaming, it’s old and a terrible excuse, since every server has hackers. Don’t spoil the name of one server because of some deadbeats.

Those numbers are incredibly out of context. We got our transfers a few days before that match even started, and Yak’s was doing very well against us in the first 24 hours. Our people knocked themselves out and were asleep all day Friday. We woke up Saturday, we fought them on equal numbers during primetime, we won, and their morale broke. That is the effect of morale, not transfers.

We have only one, maybe a second I don’t know about, Oceanic guild on our entire server. And again, when this match started, numbers were equal. I don’t know what’s going on SoS side to cause this. Maybe an older player base(work and school and whatnot), which seems unlikely since almost all the guilds I’ve seen on SoR require an age of 18, or maybe morale broke for no reason, since you guys have been trading blow for blow with us all week so far.

On an unrelated note, I’d like to apologize to SoS about the orb at EH. We believe this wasn’t the result of a hack, but of a new bug with enemy NPCs spawning on top of the orb. I’ve seen this bug myself, but usually, the fight ends up being NPC to NPC, not them hitting the altar. In any case, we quickly got in touch with an SoS leader to negotiate a trade off. He simply stated that he would rather just try to take DB and put the orb there, so we accepted this offer and fought them the best we could, but they did manage to take DB. The orb was not defended and we let them take it from the north altar.

This still leaves SoS in a bad situation, since they can’t defend DB as well as EH, and the whole thing leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Hope they fix these orb issues soon.

From my own experience as an SoR player, I see us having the advantage during Oceanic times. Remember, your prime time is night time, our primetime doesn’t sleep. You’ll see all the same commanders during NA primetime and Oceanic primetime usually.

Pertaining to hacks. I’ve spent about 20 hours in WvW since the start, not seen a single hack this week, except the CD guy who broke all the altars for uhh… who knows what reason. Please guys, you need to understand the mechanics of the game, and there are a lot of them, before you cry ‘h4x!!!11’ Thieves, for instance, due to culling can remain in near perma stealth. Also, capture rings seem to have no z-axis, so a person can stand above the ring in a keep, like say, a vista, and stop the capture(could be wrong on this).

Also, SoR has recieved no transfers. The strange weekend was caused by, as I’m told, some Blackgate guilds transferring to SoR and then to SoS to cause insanity in our maps. To my knowledge, they weren’t present last night, and that was caused by SoR getting online faster, likely related to SoS having a heavy Oceanic presence. After we took an advantage, SoS had trouble rerallying, but dang, even with inferior numbers, they put up a fight to be remembered.

Seriously though, sportsmanship. I’ve enjoyed this weekend, even with the tomfoolery, and will go on to enjoy the week, I hope.

Good post, I’m sorry for the flamers, it’s probably mostly from testosterone hopped WvWers who’ve been busy all night and are taking out their frustration.

On SoR, we have an interesting sort of things going on, and most likely every server has this, where we have commander commanders, regular commanders, and ignored commanders.

Also, on your mention of e-reputation making a good leader. I am a guild leader, but I’m not a commander. Another person in my guild has the commander icon. And yet, without it, I am followed effectively not only by my own guild, but by many of the pugs and smaller guilds, only because people are used to seeing me, and trust my judgement. I’m treated exactly like a basic commander, with or without the icon.
Commander commanders are those that enter the map and kind of take charge of everything. They’re the best commanders that everyone respects, and people listen, including the other commanders. Regular commanders take charge of groups and individual objectives, usually, listening to the basic idea of what’s going on, following the commander commander, and offering input or advice on the situation.

Bad commanders are those guys who cause rifts in this very effective attitude. They come in and say ‘no, my plan is better and you’re an idiot’. The server has decided who the better commanders are, you need to fall in-line, and earn the respect of the server if you want to be a commander commander.

Now, what I find REALLY interesting are those maps without commander commanders that still manage to stay fluid. Tonight, we had 5 commanders in SoR Border, and they were all working together amazingly. No one was ‘in charge’, but we all worked together on various objectives simultaneously, with almost no negativity, and managed to gain some ground against some pretty tough opponents.

As for all the drama related stuff, drama’s drama, it’ll be here for the forseeable future, and continue to make little to no sense, just like the flame posts in this thread.

Let’s get a few things straight with a bit of a history of the past few weeks.

Sanctum of Rall was fighting Darkhaven and Sorrow’s Furnace. The match was semi-close by around Sunday, but Darkhaven had a sizeable lead. There were a few hacks on Darkhaven’s side, including two orb hacks. I’m not blaming the server, who I am GREATLY anticipating a rematch with, but the individuals who did so. However, at the time, we did blame the server and we were FURIOUS. EPIC proceeded to focus all their attention on Darkhaven’s Borderland. During the night, they would withdraw into their keep there, Etheron Hills, and keep that foothold for the day fighters to come into. Meanwhile, several guilds such as HF, focused on the homefront. It was our orb that was hacked first. In that week, we learned more about WvW and working together as a community than I thought we ever would.

The first decent sized guild to transfer in was CDS, for our battle against Northern Shiverpeaks and Yak’s Bend. They came from SI, if I recall. They were a great team, and helped us tremendously in SoR Borderlands. I can’t say that we would have won that match without them, but I think we may have managed. They are an amazing guild, but only one guild, and one guild that only fields at best 20 people at a time. Enough to change a map.

Going into this week, CDS and LUN were the only transfers we had so far. Friday night, things were incredibly close. I believe, and I could be wrong, that some people on Yak’s coordinated to get the orbs and hold them at all costs. They accomplished this goal. From last week, I noticed a few guilds on Yak’s that were among the best, and I saw all of them in Ascension Bay Friday night. It seems obvious, though possibly coincidental, that Yak’s decided we were the stronger opponent, and decided to shut us down in our borderland. And they did. Remember guys, Yak’s had everything in WvW Saturday morning. I checked WvW before I went to work, 19 hours after WvW started, and Yak’s still held the advantage.

Now, here’s the thing. Last match came down to the wire. It came to SoR’s best guilds coordinating in shifts, essentially, to defend through the night so we could take and hold the lead. None of these guilds were new on that day. People were NOT the change, but determination. We coordinated defenses together and worked in shifts. We played morale games to reduce our enemies’ presence. And these strategies worked.

Now, back to this week’s match. Those same people were exhausted Friday night. [HF], my own guild, had a showing of less than 10 people. The coordination amongst those who were actually online was a bunch of sleepy voices and confusion, because GOD were we tired. We had a new face at this time, and I believe it was the guild VIG.
So we rested Friday, and we came back Saturday. The last bastion of Yak’s power Saturday night was Ascension Bay, in the Sanctum of Rall borderlands. The best guilds I know of on Yak’s were there defending it, and MAN were they good. I have never seen anyone defend AB so well. Most SoR commanders and guild leaders, myself included, consider it a second rate target due to how hard it is to defend. But Saturday night, their focus was there, and we took everything else from them. But they defended on. And then Yak’s morale broke. Who cares that they were holding AB against the absolute best SoR had to offer? SoR was so frustrated trying to take that keep, failing every strategy we could think of. But Yak’s zerg didn’t consider that. They saw Yak’s down, and so they left, and then, without new reinforcements, the numbers dwindled. At around 2 or so in the morning, AB broke, and we took it from a paltry defense of 20.

TL;DR? Yak’s morale broke. Not the morale of its guilds, but of its zerg. They proved great skill and numbers Friday, but without the help of the two new JQ guilds(welcome to the server guys!), we were able to break AB due to nothing but pure, indeniable, unstoppable determination. Stop blaming transfers and numbers, the numbers are the problem NOW. Blame morale. SoR’s power is in its determination and coordination between guilds, not numbers, and not some all powerful guild.

To prove a small part of this story, here is a score history starting from 12PM EU time(not sure which exact time zone) on Sunday. It shows our climb up from the point at which we passed Yak’s, showing that we passed Yak’s Saturday night, about 5-10 hours before this graph shows, and not Saturday morning.

Why Free Transfers Need To Go

Been said a million times, but apparently, it needs to be said 1,000,001 to be effective?

Free Transfers are causing issues in WvW. I think even Arena Net will acknowledge this. They don’t want to disable these just yet, due to obvious hesitation to block friends off from eachother. WvW isn’t the entire game, and some minor issues on this front aren’t worth sacrificing friends playing together, right?

Wrong. Here’s the problem. We gamers are very fickle, think of a stray cat. Give a stray cat food and promise it even more and better food. But one day, don’t put food out there, and the neighbor does, and that cat’s gone. Guild Wars 2 is a great game besides WvW, but WvW is its attraction, whether they acknowledge this or not. The PvE lacks content to compete with many other competitors, who may or may not have been going for 12 years. But those competitors have much less to offer on the mass PvP front.

Moving back onto topic properly, these servers are NOT going to stabilize. I only see them becoming more unstable. A look at the current WvW scores shows us that the only semi-close games right now are tiers 5 and 6, and both of those are essentially already in the bag as well, before Monday.

But, in the end, there’s a very simple solution that makes everyone happy. Transfer limits! We could have a grace period on new accounts, blocked servers to prevent people transferring to place like Tier 1 servers, only allow a transfer per <time period here>. So many solutions to what is a SERIOUSLY underestimated issue with the potential to lower sales, population, and enjoyability by considerable amounts.

Well, that’s just my two cents on an issue that’s been talked about a million times. Maybe ArenaNet will deliver us from these mad times of fair weather guilds hopping around like fleas, infesting and damaging servers. Goodnight guys!

As I mentioned earlier in this topic, morale plays a massive role in WvW. Our commanders actively take morale into consideration, like how to keep ours up through bad times and various ways to damage enemy morale. At this tier, numbers can shove off. Last week, I never say Yak’s, SoR, or NSP have any number issues, everyone was incredibly evenly matched. Same happened Friday between us and Yak’s. What happened was a morale blow. Your best guilds were all focused on holding Ascension Bay, in SoR Borderland. So we took everything else. You guys did an amazing job defending that keep, something I usually consider impossible. But now, your server’s morale has been slammed into the dirt, while SoR’s morale is nearly impossible to break, it is our strength as a server.

Also, I’m so tired of hearing about numbers. SoR competed with Darkhaven and Sorrow’s Furnace. Back then, we had half the guilds we have now. Darkhaven was rolling us with their superior numbers, and so we learned about morale. We defended, and on defense, numbers only matter a little. Numbers matter when camps are involved, and yes, lack of camps will make your keep eventually go down, but it only takes a little, strategically used supply to win.

Darkhaven made us the server we are. We’ll fight outnumbered or with overwhelming numbers. We’ll fight with or without a commander. We’ll fight whether we’re first or last. Them embarassing us made us this way, and I thank them for teaching us how to WvW. I can only hope they meet us at the top, so we can have our rematch. Win or lose, nothing but respect.

PS: I was really looking forward to this fight, and I’m pretty disappointed. I considered Yak’s to be the more skilled of our previous opponents, and I still consider you so. Maybe SoR can do for Yak’s what DH did for us?

People who complain about being hit by two servers at once should realize the strategic lengths that, at the very least, our commanders go through to make those fights happen. We have a point we need to take, can we manipulate one enemy to attack the other in order to get that point.

Sanctum of Rall never gives up. Our determination is the main reason we win. Don’t forget last week, and don’t forget the week before. We were down badly in both fights, and we just kept getting back up, ready for more.

The huge Yak’s lead is due to an incredibly strategy, as I mentioned during my QQ thread earlier. They organized, they took all three orbs, and they held them. They let the orb bonus do the work, and I don’t care what anyone else thinks, it was genius and a great way to get an early lead. I just hope it wasn’t at the cost of demoralization when those orbs were lost.

Keep up the fight, Yak’s. No matter what anyone else in SoR says, I respect you guys a ton, especially TOG, who we’ve fought all last week in SoR Border. Someone get these oldtimers a wheelchair, because we’re going to send them back to the nursing home!

Hacking – EVERY SERVER HAS HACKERS. I’ll point out that 90% of hacker complaints have included the word ‘thief’ in them. Thieves are overpowered right now, and it has little to nothing to do with the class. Here’s the deal. Stealth causes the character to go invisible, obviously. I know little about the specifics of a thief, but let’s say stealth lasts 4 seconds and they can do it every 8 seconds. Just throwing out a number, no corrections necessary. They pop stealth, and then it expires after 4 seconds. But then, you have to load that character. Character culling in even the slightest form will cause that to take 2-4 seconds. Suddenly, you never loaded them and they’re back in stealth. Add this with a teleport skill, and you’ve got what appears to be a hacker, when in fact, it’s just character culling at its absolute worst.

As for the guy in the wall, seen this so many times in every fight that it’s ridiculous. Report them and move on. Reporting DOES work, so many people have been banned from every server for these exploits. Get a target on them, right-click them, hit Report. Then, copy their name and send a manual report explaining the actual situation, including their name, location at the time, and a detailed description of what happened. Flavor text about how they hurt your feelings and/or kitten is unnecessary.

These orbs are stupid. Great job to Yak’s for a good strategy, but ANet needs to fix this, it’s kind of stupid when it’s impossible to fight anyone on the ground. It’s not wholly broken, but it’s a mechanic that does nothing but cause frustration.

Greatly enjoyed this week’s match. To those who continue to doubt SoR, we lack many things, but we never, ever give up. I hope we can have this match again, with less of the tomfoolery. To everyone calling other servers ‘hacker servers’, every server has hackers, and every server had hackers on it this week. We all did an amazing job keeping this the cleanest and closest WvW probably to date worldwide, so let’s hope our next opponents can be just as good for us.
