Hi, I’d be very interested. I’m an experienced Chronomancer DPS. I don’t have full ascended- but I have all rings/trinkets and weapons ascended. I play every day, and have played all the games content extensively except WvW. I’ve had experience with the first encounter up to phase 3. Send me a mail or message in game- I’d love to join you guys!
My availability is open Saturdays and Sundays, and weekdays I play any time after 4:30pm CST and sometimes in the mornings.
As people have been saying, it’s about learning the mob and what attacks you need to dodge. It’s not for relaxed play.
Thief is still a lot of fun in PvE, both HoT and core. I ran a fractal (Thaumanova) today that ended up with 4 thieves+1 necro and worked out just fine. I’ve done some of the map meta events in HoT and can’t say I’ve died more or less than any particular class there. Thieves have problems with the defensive lines, but offensively we’re still alright. One thing I have to say is that I have the most fun on my thief.

Hey there!
I’ve levelled every class from 1 to 80 through world exploration (except revenant, who i boosted with scrolls), so hopefully I can share a little insight.
Thief is tough to play in most content, but not in the sense that your optimal DPS rotation is hard. It isn’t- in my opinion, it’s one of the easiest. The difficulty comes in keeping yourself alive while pumping as much damage as you can. Iirc, thieves still have some of the best single target dps. They’re not just stealth bots. But don’t get me wrong, thief is valuable for group stealthing as well, and we still can’t say whether that will be part of raid mechanics.
In terms of who you want to play, it depends on what you find fun. Mesmer is a fun class with good dps potential (and now boosting group dps with chronomancer), with a fairly easy dps rotation. But it requires a lot of knowledge about the class to master. With the all the buffs plus getting reaper, I feel like Necros will have at least competitive dps with other class, and I would bet money that we’ll need boon stripping in at least some part of the raid. Theyre also relatively easy to play imo. Warrior is also a fun class, but usually valued more for their boosting group dps than anything. However, this could change with berserker getting a buff just recently.
Ultimately, the honest answer is pick what class you enjoy the most (or pick several, I play 5!). I really doubt that you would be excluded for picking any class in particular. And if you do, hit me up because I wont turn you away
Do you guys know what patch this was in? I haven’t taken a break or anything and couldn’t find it in release notes
Did this rune get nerfed or something recently? I feel like I don’t see people take it anymore
Before the expansion dropped, I played D/P thief just because I really love the class. And I would look on these forums occasionally and see people saying thief needed a buff. I would think to myself, “Oh wow, maybe arenanet will buff the thief and I’ll like it even more!” I never really felt the weakness of thief that I read about on the forums (for the most part).
But since Elite Specializations are out, my experience has been like a repeat of the June balance patch: thief didn’t get nerfed, but the power level shifted down because other classes got relatively stronger.
All this to say… add me to the list of people hoping arenanet will address thief this year/ever
Hey Anet. I’m in the camp of people who enjoy the new content’s difficulty, but I have a minor complaint. In the story “Bitter Harvest”, a group of Mordrem Guard Desolators is difficult in the wrong kind of way.
My biggest issue is their “tell” is way too short for the amount of damage they do. Other enemies feel in a good place; Snipers do actually very similar amounts of damage, and you see it coming from a mile away. I really think adding even as little as an extra ~0.25s to their animation would go a long way in not making them feel cheap. In group content, Desolators are interesting and well tuned to fight in my opinion. But when there aren’t other bodies around to take their aggro, it can be frustrating to try to outlive 6 big bursts of damage in quick succession. Thanks for listening!
I haven’t ruled out the possibility of getting a new monitor. I just don’t want to spend more money than is necessary to experience the game like I want.
A 970 will be a waste at 1440×900. AMD CPUs have issues in this game, so you will need a CPU upgrade to get 60 FPS constantly.
Good to know! I will look into an intel processor. But in the meantime, do you think the 960 I ordered will make a noticeable difference?
I run the game at 1440×900. I may return the 960 for 970, but wanted to see first if it was an improvement that I was happy with. I live in southern US, as far as regions are concerned. And my ultimate goal is not to have ultra settings running at 90+fps, just modest medium-high to high settings. Thanks for the input so far guys, it’s been helpful. I’m hoping I won’t have to sink money into getting an i5 and that this upgrade will be sufficient.
Hey guys. I’ve been playing GW2 for a while now, and I can run the game at around 50fps on medium-low settings. I wanted to upgrade my specs so I can really appreciate the games beauty, and I wanted to see what you guys thought.
My specs-
Processor: AMD A10-6700 APU with Radeon™ HD Graphics
Graphics card: AMD Radeon HD 8670D
RAM: 8gb
I just ordered a GeForce gtx 960 from amazon, and I’m hoping that can allow me to run on medium-high or high with somewhere between 40-60 fps. However, I do know that AMD processors are better at hyperthreading, and not really ideal for gaming. I’m hoping that doesn’t hold me back too much.
So long story short- will this new graphics card get me where I want to be with graphics? And if not, should I upgrade my CPU as well?
Just to clarify- I haven’t used the turret build in ages. I used the cele rifle build for quite some time after I got used to PvP fundamentals (what is rotating? How do I position correctly? What is +1? etc). I’m also very familiar with MetaBattle.
Prior to the specialzation patch, I ran a pretty standard cele rifle with grenades, elixir S, and tool kit. And I felt good with it. I got my win rate well over 50% for engineer and I felt I was in a good place with the class. It’s also worth noting that I also play Thief and Mesmer heavily in PvP, so unfortunately advice like “rotate better” isn’t very helpful, as I got quite good at that on those classes.
Since the specialization patch, I’ve tried several builds: pistol condi, soldier/marauder grenades, even a build based around burning using bomb and flamethrower kit. I haven’t been able to replicate my success before, yet still doing quite well on Thief and Mesmer.
Also, my goal isn’t to win necessarily- but to be a better player. And I feel like I have seriously dropped in my performance on engi and I can’t work out why. I’d be willing to play with or against people to see what I’m missing or what needs to be improved.

I’m an avid PvP player and came back to GW2 about 8 months ago after playing when the game launched.
I really love the engineer. However, I will admit, that I used the turret engi build for a long time to help me learn fundamentals. Since then however, I’ve picked up Mesmer and Thief in PvP.
Prior to the Specialization patch, I had no problem winning more the 50% of my games as engineer. However, lately, I can’t seem to win. I’ll have lose streaks ranging from 4 to 15 games. Meanwhile, while playing my Mesmer and Thief, winning seems effortless. I have no problem killing players and staying alive. Having played a lot of Engineer in both PvE and PvP, I would like to think I have a strong understanding of the class. And yet, I can’t seem to win no matter what build I use.
Is there anybody out there who might be willing to offer me guidance, advice, or help? I really just want to get my daily done and have been at it for 2 hours now. Thanks
Has been an issue for a while now. I keep being in games against people abusing it. If it can’t be fixed, can we at least get an “abusing game exploit” or “cheating” option for reports?
Having been on the receiving end of vsing premades with a PUG, I completely agree. Nothing ruins my enjoyment of pvp more than this.
This story mode cannot be completed solo on a light armor class. Please scale it down. Sad that the final story mode boss is easier than this
