Ya, had fractals 3 days in a row as one of the dailies to complete.

Thanks for the informative responses. I do not know much about the pvp side of this game at all so something for me to consider.

Sorry to resurrect but this is NOT a non-issue as someone stated. I am a returning player. I have an 80 which I do not play (the reason does not matter). So, I have a couple of lowbies. I don’t pvp or do wvw. Therefore I cannot complete the daily because a fractal has been one of the 3 pve options available everyday since my return. Anet is incorrect in this type of “encouragement” to do other aspects of the game. People play and do what they enjoy. The game has a lot going for it but penalizing players because they prefer pve over the pvp and wvw activities is not correct. If anything, pve should have 6 activities to balance what pvp and wvw players have to choose from. I expressed my frustration to my kid ( who is going to return to game) and he basically said “don’t do the daily.” He’s right. But that’s not good for keeping me on as a player.

To the point of the OP, why should he or others have to put up with folks like me who have no interest in the pvp side of this game and frankly not really that good at it. I don’t even know what capping a ruin is. Back in the day when I tried pvp I always joked with my friends that if you want to win pvp then put me on the opposing side. So how is this right for the game or other players?

I am selecting a way point in Lion’s Arch and I keep getting put at the north end of the city. The ports are being initiated from outside the city, the last one from Snowden Drifts. Please fix.

My bad for “necroing” this thread. I thought twice about it but it so obviously pointed out the issues. There may be others that are more current but this popped up, I saw it and having an unusually passionate moment I clicked reply.

From where I sit this fight is about 2 things; game design and player skill.

Player skill, you’ll have all sorts of player skill levels in a MMO, not much you can do about that. An average player can “get better” by playing a style they are more comfortable with. That much I’ve witnessed and experienced. Poor game design seems to be inhibiting that for many players however.

There were all sort of good intentions with this game. Every stat option including the kitchen sink is available but zerkers (save a few assassin or scholars) is the only one accepted. Huddling in a group to stack to share boons is also bad and has forced every meta into melee/very short range. I was willing to give up the holy trinity for this style of play but I don’t want to play melee, I want to stand at range and cast. Adapting is one thing, not being able to play in a style which you are comfortable is another.

I just want to thank all of you in this thread for making it abundantly clear why I am reluctant to come back to this game. It’s zerkers or nothing. I understand the demand by the players, it’s not unreasonable. It’s completely the fault of Anet for the development of this mentality through poor design or at the very least not correcting it sooner. They need to make some tweaks to allow for better dps from other weapon sets. They need to get over this boon range limitation. It’s bad for the game. It’s great that there are so many weapon choices that could accommodate more varied play styles but it’s incredibly obvious that few are accepted in the higher end activities in this game (where I like to be, group stuff is my kind of fun). I want to love this game, I really do, but reading this and looking at the single minded meta builds just makes it unappetizing.

A lot of interesting views being expressed and so many comments lacking context it’s hard to take them seriously. The server you’re on matters. Fergusson’s Crossing has a low active population despite the server status saying it’s high. I assume high is in reference to the number of accounts that reside there. Indeed it has been my home since the start and we had a lot of folks playing for the first several weeks. You couldn’t go anywhere without seeing numerous players, it was fun given this game is event based. Now LA has a low population, only a few people in it except at the very highest peak play time of the day. 2 guilds boasting 500+ members (total) are leaving or have left the server in the past week because of stagnation and population decline (their words not mine). Decisions to do that are not based on a whim so those that say it’s population spread don’t have a clue and those that say the game is dead, well same thing. I don’t think it’s dead and it won’t die unless anet gets their act together. There are quite a few very good elements to this game to work with. It has declined too quickly however. Far too many complaints of being bored in a game of this size in 2 months.

Guilds in GW1 were active, they were vibrant and fun to be in. In my experience the guilds in GW2 are crap for the most part. That is not to say that the folks in them are bad, it is to say that something has changed that has reduced the guild mystique in a way that has reduced interaction and hurt the game. I can’t put my finger on it exactly but there is something missing that I thinkittenerally anchored the player base in GW1 that is not happening in GW2.

I will be disappointed if the designers cannot get their brains wrapped around this and fix it. As I said before, this game has a lot of stuff in it that I, as a player, thoroughly enjoy. The graphics, the mechanics, the leveling method, the weapon driven spell sets (for the most part) and story lines.
