No Soup For Solo

I didn’t go into World 1 as well at first, as it was marked with that 5-player stuff.

The next day after seeing and hearing around a bit I entered it. The thing is, that SAB is shaped and designed as solo instance (which can be played with group, if you want, more for a social aspect), and unclearly marked (marked in a misleading way), that it might seem to be group content. There is not much to add to that.

Good job on Ascended skins Anet.

It’s probably matter of taste. I also really like these better than legendary skins. Joined the game recently – was observing legendaries and thinking “aw, maaaaaan, really?” however for me personally anime-ish art style is incarnation of pure evil and tastelessness , therefore any step into another direction is positive.

and, in the end, you can’t really argue about taste

I turn off Music while playing

I can fully understand!

Music is really nice, but for me it is too constant, or sometimes even illustrative/intrusive. It would be a shame to turn it off completely, so it just sits just on a few percents in my situation. You can barely hear it (bits more of like from inside your own head), but it’s still there and contributing towards atmosphere.

Why cater to casuals?

Somehow it seems former meaning of hardcore/casual has shifted. It’s not only about playtime and “dedication”. To my understanding, there are several things to think about:

1. Time is money. If you want to achieve something, you can use your time to work towards it or, long story short, pay others to do it – or some kind of combination of this. You can say “pay to win”, however you can say as well – “nobles have servants”

2. Attitude. I consider myself casual because of attitude (and play with others with similar attitude), like not adjusting real life plans because of the game (no commitments), not focusing on achieving but rather on enjoying etc.

3. Group content and raiding. Gear progression and defined roles in raids… Well, for me it seems boring and something sooooo 20th century Thinking philosophically, it encourages social behaviour, where people always have clearly defined roles, and if they perform what expected they get an award (which really means nothing). It’s an illusion, form of control, as it is very easy to predict and control such society. It’s completely uncreative though. Thinking from this perspective, GW2 made some steps away from it, which is actually great and healthy.

Let’s see what happens next.

New player's opinion

I have joined the game very recently as well, and would agree with OP very much. Though I was dedicated PvPer in other games, career is just starting here for me. I’m sure a lot of mistakes are to be made, as (by the way, with guardian as well) for now everything still seems to be in the mists!

What helps though, I’ve noticed, is having a certain ignore in physical human brain:
1. Ignore for any kind of statistical evaluation and ranking of your performance (points, ranks, glories etc.)
2. Ignore any kind of evaluation and ranking of your performance from other players
3. Ignore (or, rather don’t be frustrated by) frequent deaths

And one point to take into account:
Listen to advice

this kind of attitude helps me a lot

What is meta?

Thanks Gandarel and milo for clarifications! It’s really interesting, all this naming of things. So far I’ve noticed “meta” and “running with xxx” (where xxx is build or weapon), which seem to be popular in GW2 PvP talk .

What is meta?

Hello!

Joined not so long time ago, so excuse me for this apparently trivial question.

In the context of PvP, what does “meta” mean? From the context it seems somewhat a synonym to “build”? It could be a shortened “meta-event”, which would make sense, but it isn’t.

I’m just curious what exactly does this term mean and how it has developed.

Thanks for your time reading (and maybe answering) this.
