My main problem with my guardian in PvP is… he is SOOOOO godkitten slow. I chose the largest race with zero speed utility (in the build I use that I don’t want to change). My necro is a small sylvari with 25% speed boost lol
So I have a level 80 guardian, and had every intention of not playing him (recently came back from a 9 month hiatus and only hopped on him to finish up my 100% world completion).
However… While doing the world completion I have started to rethink that a little bit, so keep that in mind.
I am looking for a really solid WvWvW profession. Whichever class seems to shine the most (at the moment I guess). I want to keel dem biznitches mainly, but also wouldn’t mind doing a bit of support either.
Currently it’s a toss up to me between a necro and guardian. Any input would be greatly appreciated!
So I have a level 80 guardian that I level’d ages ago now. Now that I have returned I cannot stop making new characters.
Right now I am thinking either necro or mesmer, but here is what I am looking for endgame
1)Decent (or better) in overall PvP
2) Wanted in Dungeon groups
3) Decent solo PvE
Any help would be appreciated. Also if you wouldn’t mind a small explanation as to why you think said profession would be a good fit for me.
alright, warrior it is I guess
can you define “real class” then?
I really dont want to hit level 80 and regret spending that time
I appreciate the responses fellows. Well thought out and actually helpful haha. Thank you guys, I am going to go hop on my ranger and have some fun.
So I have a level 46 ranger that I left about 5 months ago… I really honestly enjoy playing my ranger, but I keep hearing how rangers are crapola at level 80. Is this true? Also with the new patch coming out it sounds like more QQ.
Can I play a ranger without being grossly underpowered?
Are rangers a welcome addition to groups? (post patch)
Will I hit 80 on my ranger and find myself thinking “omg, this is a waste of my life”?
I dont know what all has changed in the past 5 months, but I have returned to GW2, which is why I have no clue what all has really changed.
I too would like some input on this. My 80 guardian seems a bit drab in solo’ing stuff, but he is built around group play. I am looking for a good alt that is good/fukittenolo PvE
hey, thanks for the well thought out response I think I am gonna roll with a dual pistol engineer for a while. Maybe go as a rifle engi for a while, idk. See how things go Thanks again
ok…. well I guess I will try engineer out and hope for the best.
So I am returning to GW2 now that my life has settled again. I have a level 80 guardian, but there have been quite a few changes in the past months it seems, and I have no idea what I am doing, so I plan on starting fresh.
I have a few questions as to which class I should pick up at this point to help me decide.
1) Which class is desired in teams, and has the best all around team synergy?
2) Which class fits #1 and is also a solid solo class (i’m sure all classes can solo well though)
3) Which class is the least frusterating PvP wise? (from my standpoint, not the enemies)
4)Which class will I get to level 80 and think “man, what a waste of time”
well im looking for easy this time around. I want something easy and powerful. My guardian is good, and can do well, but it requires more skill swapping and careful timing on utility skills if I get more than 2 enemies on me in Orr.
Moas? Sorry to be nubbish, but whats Moas?
Long story short, I am not happy with my 80 guardian. So I am looking for a solid ranged class.
Ranger is looking promising. I am hoping they have decent+ dmg, and some good group buffage (vulnerabilities on enemies, snares, and such). My biggest concern is the zone of Orr. How well do rangers fare in this zone? Its the same zone the instance Arah is located.
How are 80 rangers overall?
So I am really torn as to whether or not this class is worth the time to put into it. Someone said that once they got to the risen in later levels it was a hell fest basically. That scares me because thats what I am trying to avoid. I am looking for something easier than my guardian who struggles. Its not that I can’t kill crap, its that it takes forever and a day to do so, and the mobs are like 5 feet apart, in a huge abundance.
So is this true across the engineer board? The zone I am currently beating my head against the wall on is the same zone the Arah instance is in (cant think of zone name). Any max level engineers feel they have problems here?
And if this all seems like engi is not what I am looking for, and suggestions?
so engineers are like . . . crap overall?
So I feel that guardians are weak in both solo and group play at level 80 (up to that point guardian is “lol 10 enemies died. I thought I pulled 1”. At level 80 it’s like “Wtf, that was only 2 normal mobs? 1s 57c later at the spawn point lets. . . try this again? sigh”
So I am looking for a ranged support class. The aspect of using dual pistols and a rifle intrigue me greatly. But I have a few concerns before dumping another 114 hours into another toon.
1) Solo ability. Can I run around a comfortably solo zones (not events). This is primarily targeted at level 80 zones when I hit a wake-up call on my guardian (btw, I have tried multiple set ups and builds on my guardian, and while its gotten better, it still feels super weak for what a guardian should be).
2) How do engineers contribute to dungeons? I feel my contributions on my guardian were negligible at best. The amount of support I actually provide is far from what I expected “The strongest support class” to do. And again I have tried multiple builds.
3) How much fun do you have on your pistol-toten, grenade thrown, turret settin, rifle snipin engineer? In all aspects of PvP (Mainly WvWvW. Havent done any other PvP), dungeons, events, and most importantly lone wolfin it around the world alone.
4) Come on, which race do you think looks most bad* as a engineer?
well then, thanks much. Imma go try out the lord of the undead
Thanks for the pretty informative response.
If anyone else has some insight, lemme hurr bout it ;D
omg its another “someone spoon feed me which class I should play because I cant decide for myself”. But I care not, because I dont want to have another level 80 that makes me think “Son of a. . . this is not how I pictured this to be”
So my gripes about my guardian:
1) Low dps – “meh” survivability (Its not terrible. Its also not where a “Guardian” should be at)
2) My ranged options are comparable to choosing a plunger or my bare hand to unclog a toilet. It either sucks, or sucks worse. Big beefy bad*** . . . with a wand. Come on. And low DPS to boot
3) Same gripe as #2, but put that in a PvP situation.
4) If I get attacked by 1 enemy im a boss, wrecking his face. . . really slowly, but getting the job done. Get an add and I have to play my cards right. Get 2 adds and if better be able to outrun them and hope I dont pick up more mobs while running away (and I always get more adds)
What I am looking for (Which class fits these roles the best overall)
1) Ranged. Honestly, screw this melee crap. Its not for me, not in GW2
2) Solo’ability. Guardians are great until you get into the level 80 zones, and its like a whole new level of enemies that its tough for a guardian. So which class can handle the endgame zones well?
3) I would like to DW pistols honestly, not a necessity though, im ok with ele/necro if they fit the rest of the bill
4) Group synergy. My guardian is good for some minor buffs, laughable DPS from ranged, and dying.
5) PvP. Honestly, a ranged guardian isn’t bad here, but the gameplay style is. . . not what you would expect from a plate wearing “Ball of wrecking kitten” (but I dont wreck kitten, I just look like I can with my bad*** armor)
It would seem my options are: Theif, ele, necro, engineer, warrior (Dont want a warrior, already got a heavy armor toon). I dont think ranger fits the bill because they are better off with a melee greatsword from what I have read.

hm. Reading over that again he very well may have been agreeing with me lol. If thats the case. . . my bad But yeah, I just felt like I needed to rant after 4.5hours. I can understand dungeons being hard, but good god. I have a family and happened to have spare time today while they were gone (Work and kids were at grandma & grandpa’s house). From the looks of it, im gonna have cut PvE out. Shame really.
Inb4 fanboys flood the thread and tell you dungeons are fine and you need to l2p.
lulz, I was wondering when the “l2p” troll would come out to play.
Because being in full exotic heavy armor with gems and getting 1 shot makes total sense. Better off being a caster because you die just as fast but at least you have more warning (generally speaking) to react to things and you can actually do some DPS.

So, I have been struggling to keep with my guardian now at level 80. I did some dungeons while leveling and though “Wow, im only good for dying”. But I stuck with it and tried some different builds. 3 groups later in dungeons and the groups keep breaking up after about 15 wipes (which cost me about 30 silver a run or so).
So I respecced into something for solo’ing and doing events. While in the same zone as the Arah dungeon, I got myself into an Arah exploration group.
Without going into a ton of detail it took us over 4 hours to get to the last boss, and the group fell apart at the last boss after 8 wipes (That run back from the closest teleport spot is ridiculously long btw). Our group was well synergized too. But come on Anet. As a guardian with decent gear (4 yellows and 2 exotics) and I am still getting 1 shot. Seriously? 1 shot? What the fk am I wearing plate for? I might as well go roll a ranged class because melee is gettingkitten bluntly put.
This crap needs to get scaled down, or come the 25th I wont have to “stick with” anything except my new class in another MMO we dare not speak of.
