I would say that since damage is normalized like the posters above stated, your best learning opportunity is to go to metabattle to view the current top classes/builds. Get a review of the builds so you know what you are facing when you go into a match. Also hit the ‘b’ button go bring up the roster and see what the opposing team has for players. Based on the metabattle listing, you should know what each of the builds are on the opposing team about 50% of the time.

That’s not a critical piece though, when you engage your opponent, you want to see what they are using for weapons which will dictate the skills they are using. Is this a P/P thief or d/p? Is this a staff guardian or sword/focus? What’s the warrior using for weapons? This will let me know what skills I need to use.

My advice is to start with a bunker/celestial build which can be more forgiving for new players. It will give you the most amount of stats to survive. So focus on surviving your fights. Most of the time, if you can clear conditions and heal yourself while putting out a moderate amount of damage, then you can out sustain your opponent provided you have secured the point.

The second thing to look at for win/loss is what points you have in your favor. Make sure you always have 2 points with your team’s color to ensure you are gaining points. Fight around the point. It’s ok to flee if you think you can go to a point that has less defenders.

The key to the early learning cycles is to learn how to survive encounters. Once you have learned how each class plays against you, then you can start to focus on offensive builds which require more experience and have more reward.

Good luck.

Thank you for this, very good advice.

So after a rather lengthy time away from GW2 and coming back, lots of things have changed. Currently working on building resources and currency to achieve Ascended gear for the upcoming Revenant profession, and looking at different gear sets it has none the less peaked my curiosity.

How viable do YOU think “all stat” gear is? (The kind with every stat of every kind)

I see this gear set as a viable option for some professions that can be good supporters like the Guardian or Engineer. What do you guys think?

From the wiki :

Characters used in structured PvP gain access to a separate PvP Build. This mechanic allows players to be on an equal playing field with the same attributes, skills, traits, and equipment options as other players. Players can change the character’s build through the PvP Build panel.

In other words, stats are normalized in PvP. Assuming the same Amulet and Rune, a level 1 Mesmer will have the same numerical stats as a level 80 Mesmer. Different classes have a bit of variation.

So the only functional difference between a PvP level 1 and a PvP level 80 is the amount of time on that character.

BTW: 19 out of 46 is a decent w/l ratio. That’s about 40%. That’s about where I sit too.

Thank you for the insight, and for not being rude, I know game communities can be pretty hostile.
Well it’s good to know I’m not doing so bad then, and I’ll try to be less frustrated next time a Mesmer hits me for 11k :p lol

As I have said before, I have played this game since release. Recently starting up again after some time away and a second account, I wanted to start getting into PvP (not to be confused with WvW) and having played some over the past couple days and seeing some of the differences between classes, well I need to know a few things.

First, I see a HUGE disadvantage between particular classes and levels, I start getting excited when I get teamed with a full 80 team as that is the only time I win a match maybe it’s just more skill from players that have been playing longer, literally my win loss ratio is so bad, it’s embarrassing, I think 19 out of 46 at this point. Now I know some will say, well you’re a noob and you suck so get better… yeah well that’s not the case, I’m actually quite decent, being able to take down most others in a 1v1 situation with my elixir based dual pistol engineer at level 19, and this makes me think it’s not about levels or gear, but then again… well idk.

That being said, it’s not always the case, I’ve run into people who just do insane amounts of damage in a very short, so short in fact I don’t even have time to activate my heal (A.E.D.). That is, to say the least, frustrating.

So I guess the point is, does it all come down to abilities? Does being level 80 affect stats, how about level 80 gear? Ascended, exotic.. so on. Or does everybody have the same stats no matter level 1 with no gear or level 80 with the best gear? Minus of course runes and Amulet.

Is there any insight into what’s going to happen to the future of PvP, will it become more or less balanced? I noticed some pretty insane Mesmer’s out there.

Botting still an issue?

So, I have been playing GW2 off and on since release, this is my second account. Shortly after release there was pretty much an instant botting problem, some zones have become so crowded with botters it became near impossible to play there.

Well it’s not quite that bad now, at least not that I’ve seen. However, I know a bot when I see one, I have been playing MMO’s for a very long time, and watching a character running into a wall for 20 minutes… yes 20 minutes (I watched as I ate my dinner the other night before reporting him/her). If this isn’t an obvious sign of botting, I simply don’t know what is. Watching 2 characters following the exact same path at the exact same time is another very obvious sign, but again, what do I know?

After reading some articles from 2012 and beyond, I am surprised to see any botters at all, but none the less I am fairly certain it’s a still an issue as I have reported at least 5 players a day for the last 5 or 6 days for what I would assume are botters from observing them as I am running along for 100% completion. And recently noticing the red text when reporting someone, fear of my own account being banned due to “abusing the reporting system” has lead me to questions about whether or not botting is an issue, whether or not I should be reporting what I suspect to be a botter, and what is being done about people being reported.

So what’s going on?

Low FPS with FX-8350 and GTX 970

@Famous.6403 wow dude… everything you said was WRONG, like… don’t even try again. Giving misleading information doesn’t help anyone.

@Corn.7061 I have a GTX 970 and an A-10 7600 4.3GHz and my FPS struggles mostly in crowded/populated areas, and it’s all CPU. Long story short, water leak ruins 4690k, I go back to A-10 6700. From constant 60+ FPS to stuggling to hit 30 FPS (in crowded areas of course), from 40+ FPS in WvW to 9 FPS. Point is, it’s all about the CPU, if you want better FPS upgrade to intel, the i5 6600k is AMAZING… if you can afford it, you don’t need an i7 BEWARE.

TLDR: and for a side note:
there is a massive difference between 60Hz/FPS and 144Hz/FPS, and GW2 does not make a GTX 980 struggle… unless you have a horrible AMD CPU like… idk a…. FX-6300!?
Oh, and for the record one last time, an R9 290x is NOT on par with a GTX 970 the 970 has a MUCH better price to performance ratio, and yes I am NOT an Nvidia/intel fanboy, quite the disappointing opposite in fact. And don’t listen to the… “You wont notice a difference with the much better i5/i7” BS, because I promise you will notice a massive difference.

Sea of Sorrow WvW Guilds???

Ok so to make a long story short, I haven’t played GW2 since about 6 months after release. But I did play it pretty hardcore for those 6 months, WvW mostly. Now I have just returned (had to buy a new copy) and find out that WvW is dying, and almost dead. For those of you who have not played since release and the months following, you wouldn’t understand how much better WvW was then vs now.

My server was JQ, they are a bunch of dimwits now, how they even hold rank 1 is beyond me, so I switched it up to SoS. Commander pins are rare to find, groups are scattered at best, but overall a decent group for WvW, and much better organized than JQ, and if JQ keeps on with it’s current course, I can see them dropping out of top 3/tier 1 within the next few months, and SoS taking their spot.

So I am here to gather WvWer’s from SoS ONLY!!! So we can hit that Tier 1/top 3 bracket. I propose a new guild mainly for WvW, where we will go into a battleground when we need to, and maintain it… as a group, I don’t mean 4 or 5 of us, but 50 of us, 100… so on. So I am calling all WvWer’s, let’s make a guild and tear this s*** up. Add me anytime, I am getting started now. Ghost Neko out.
