- Reprimand, up to or including dismissal, the designer responsible. After all, this is plagiarism we are talking about. It’s a serious offense. People often lose their jobs in these situations.
I understand you are upset about the changes to this gem store skin. I get that, ANet definitely made a big mistake with this armor set. But this is not plagiarism for multiple reasons. One, you do not know whether the same designer who originally made the HT3 light armor also designed this reskin, and two, even if it was not the same designer, that armor skin does not belong to only one designer. The designers work as a team and are therefore absolutely allowed to use aspects originally created by other members of the team. To suggest they not do this would be extremely detrimental to ANets ability to collaborate and to the game overall.
Also, you cannot blame this mistake on one designer alone. There is absolutely no way one person would be able to create an armor skin and just have it thrown into the game without first getting approval on it. ANet absolutely needs to take this event seriously and make sure nothing like this happens again, but it is not as simple as calling for one designer to be fired, so please do not paint it as such.
Now as far as what your (and other players is similar positions) options are in regards to compensation, there are a couple paths you can take. Personally, I do not think there is any chance of you convincing ANet to let you keep the original Flamekissed design. Obviously, you can try to change their minds, but I am pretty confident you will not be able to. So, you can do one of three things:
1) You can decide you do not want to wait for the new skin to come out and request compensation now by creating a support ticket. You are not going to get any answers in this or any other forum thread about other items such as dyes and makeover kits. The only way you will get any answers about those items is by creating a ticket and outlining what you believe you deserve compensation for.
2) You can wait for the new skin to be released. If you decide you do not like the new one, create a ticket and ask for your gems to be refunded as well as listing all other items you believe should be refunded. Make sure you list each item specifically, and if possible I would suggest putting amounts of gold/gems spent on each item in the list as well. The more info you give them the easier it will be for them to help you.
3) If you decide you do like the new skin, but still feel you deserve compensation for items used specifically for the old skin, again, create a ticket and outline the specific items.
As I see it, these are the options you have before you. Of course, you can still air your grievances with this situation and/or how ANet handled it, though eventually it just turns into beating a dead horse if all you’re doing is saying the exact same thing over and over again.
