Quite strange that not much has been said since hots came out. I also didn’t do much testing:/
However: It’s either
1. Old D/D Berzerker
2. Staff ( With Daredevil instead of Trickery)
I think there is an argument to be made that this build surpasses D/D in Power dmg. The modifiers are higher./ Staff autoattack has higher dmg than Dagger/Sword. You get the third dodge for more mobility.
3. Venomshare thief.
Condi dmg has been buffed/ and thief condi dmg in general because of viper stats
You take Daredevil/ Deadly/ Shadow. With d/d and shortbow.
I prefer the last build/ because of it’s defiance stripping And high sustain. (Also in high fractals you need condi dmg)
Also, did you try the Trailblazer armor stats? (expertise is a waste)
I did not looked at the Trailblazer armor because it’s more a Condi-Tank gear and PvE thief is not fit to be a condi tank.. but you can make a good power one.
To improve the survivability of my build i have just to switch some trinket for Dire + Rabid ones.
Expertise is not a waste its condition duration ! Viper and Sinister are both the best PvE stats for a condition build.Hey,
How would you compare sinister to vipers dmg? I thought Viper could be an improvement ( especially because we dont have muc condi durration in our utilities) have you trested other runes too? Do you use that build in Fractlas/ plan to use it in raids? How do you think it compares to condi engi?
Thanks:)Viper is a slight improvement to Sinister. I ve just compared weapons however. I can share the stats if you want but as you said thieves dont have much condition duration in our builds so its even hard to have 100% poison duration unlike warriors with fire for example.
(atm a full viper armor + weapons gives 21,6% duration.. with a signet of malice (10%) , Potent poison (33%) and right consumables (30%) you’ve got 94,6% duration on poison and 61,6% on bleeding)I’ve not tested other runes but if i wanted more condition damage i would have picked Krait runes. The idea behind the Adventurer runes is to have more synergy with the Daredevil specialization.
About fractal and raid.. the answer is Yes. Why ? Because its the purpose of a Venom Share build ! The more people you’ve got around you the more damage you’ll do. (5×6 poison stacks for 1681 poison damage each.. )
Moreover breaking a defiant bar with basilik venom dont need to coordinate .. just gather each-others and hit the skill .. you’re done.
If you were wondering why a thief could be picked into a raid the answer is here .. condition burst and easy way to break a defiant bar.Finaly it’s my opinion and the way i think Anet is trying to go for the condi thief role in raids… but i may be wrong

Thanks for the reply. I’m also a big Condi thief fan! I just love the idea of a venom share build / with high burst and also well defined weaknesses( low aoe dmg/ requieres positioning)

I’m using a daredevil and venom share build myself.Using full Viper armor and weapon and Sinister for trinkets.
Deadly Arts : Dagger training, Panic strike, Potent Venom
Shadow Arts : Last refuge, Leeching venoms, Venomous aura
Daredevil : Brawler’s tenacity, Escapist’s absolution, Lotus trainingIt’s a glass build.. but.. using Brawler’s tenacity + Channeled Vigor + Adventurer runes
Its a full endurance coming back every 16 sec !So you can spam death blossom and lotus training around dodging and curing most of the damage…
When last refuge pop you know its time to heal your self.
I m using a staff for secondary weapons.. because its an easy way to remove an immobilize.. but i keep a short bow in inventory ^^I noticed how important Control became in high end PvE… (guild hall event for example) breaking this kitten defiant bar is starting to be really important and thief has many tools to help. That’s why i picked a venom share build over another.

what dps rotation do you guys use on staff?
Tried out DD a few games and gor wrecked it wasent even funny.
However, then I tried out celestial P/d with daredevil and had a lot of success. Maybe I just got lucky Anyone tried it out too?

Daredevil will bring some condi buffs ( at least 10% flat condi dmg buff) While you have more survivability than Engi and more team support ( with stealth rez + defiance bar shredding).However, I’m afraid that the team comb will be : 3-4 Engi 3-4 Harald 1 Druid 1-2 Ps war.
There is no way thief will take the harald sport. And it will be a close call towards the engi.It is possible though ( if harald staff defiance removal gets fixed) that the usual group is in need of more def removal wich would maybe result (some ) Engis getting replaced with Thiefs.
If breakbar takes into account the duration of the CC like I think it does, thieves won’t be a big help for those :/ (this will need some testings).
Also you forgot Chronomancer in your list, Alacrity + Quickness will be a very nice addition.Overall we’ll see once it’s there, the first boss didn’t seem to require a thief but future content might, you may need stealth, blind for high number of adds or someone with superior mobility for exemple.
Dont heralds have loads of quickness? From a pure time= breakbar removal: A full basi share gets you 5*2*1 seconds of stun at a 30secondish cooldown with relatively low cast time. (plus headshoting/stealing wich is pretty irrelevant though)

I would very much enjoy an option for Condi thiefs in daredevil. Yea you have the GM now but what am I supposed to take on 1st and 2nd?
Speaking form a PVE viewpoint now.
My ideas:
1st tier:
-Give Evasive empowerment A buf to condi dmg too.
-Apply a condition with weakening strike ( preferable burning)
-Brawlers tenacity is alright.
2nd tier: (Imho the most problematic trai for condi thiefs)
In pvp its a clear choice for the 2nd trait. However I also think that Escapist absolution is too weak. A good oponent in Pvp will deny you the evades ( by running away) while you slowly die by condis)
In pve its just plain useless.
- I think Staff master is good as it is but since Staff ist a condi weapon it’s not a viable choice for condi thiefs either
-Leaves you with Impacting disruption wich is also clearly neither a Pve nor a condi trait.
The GM are really nice since the change.
so TL DR: the 2nd tier daredevil traits give no viable choice for Condition builds
my Idea for improvements:
Its quite hard to change the trais without removing the identity of the traits. I have an idea thogh:
Combine escapist absolution with Driven fortitude. I think the traits fit great together and combined they make an alright minor( still nothing too special).
This leaves you with a free 2nd tier:
My ideas of easy to make/effecitve traits to replace it:
1st.) X% of Power is converted to Condi Dmg trait.
2nd.)On crit condition. ( F.e. burning/poison )
3rd.) If you have not been hit for x amount of time you get a big conid dmg buff ( would fit great to the evade theme)
4th.) If you evade an attack you get a stackable condi buff. ( also fits great to the theme)
Timers are very strict in raids.
Now to the state of thiefs. I’m a thief main and played around 10 ish hours of raiding last Beta weekend purely on thief.
I started out with a Normal dps daredevil (zerker) build and it was bad. Dps is lower than Revs while revenants have SO MUCH more survivability/team utility ( with glint).
I then swapped to a sinister condi build and was quite fine. Your survivability is amazing with liefetsal form poison/3 dodges. Also the mobility comes in handy (I always made it to the red circle in time)
And DMG is nice. ( probably not as good as Engi, however there are a few condi buffs comming to daredevil so I have high hopes) .
Also a full Basi share deleted every Defiance bar I cam across. (sadly revenants have a redicolous OP staff skill which someohow removes defiance bar completly Hope they fix that!)
So my best guess is If THiefs have a role in raids ( f.e. if later stealth/blind is needed) it will be a condi daredevil for the named reasons.

1. Idea:
How about inflicting burning on weakness Calling the trait Burning Weaknes. ( Just becasue it sounds so cool
)
2. idea:
weakened foes recieve x more condition dmg. ( Would go nicely with the whole weakned idea)

If you hit a weakened foe ad 1 to each condition stack on your foe
I would like it if there is a choice for condi thief on every trait lvl.
Also I would like to see some changes at the tier 2 traits.
From a condi thief(Pve) perspective there is just nothing worth taking here.
My idea:
Give escapist absolution a secunday trait: If you evade an attack apply x conditions to the targets arround you .
Played Condi thief. with daredevil/ latest condi buffs THief condi dps is about as much as Engi condi dps. While Thief has way more survivability/ infinit ports.. Was very usefull for the step in the circle phase.
Also Basi venom share goes through the defiance bar with ease. ( in the raid 1 full venomshare was enaugh to completly remove the defiance bar)
I think thief is in a good state atm Eventhough the condi dps may not be on par with Engi (eventhough I#m not sure on that have not seen latest Dps numbers wiht daredevil/poison buff) I think it can make up for it with stuns/survivability
I would very much enjoy a condition trait in the daredevil line. Lotus strike is fine but all by itself I dont know if it justifies going into Daredevil for a condition build/ makes condi on thief really viable.
My idea:
1. give Lotus training A flat condi increase/ condition durration increase
2. Make a trait that applies poison when ever you apply weakness ( would justifie going into Weakening strike for a condi build.
3. Give flat condi buffs to other traits.
Please make condi share viable it is such a great build idea with clear strength ( potential very highy single target dps) And clear weaknesses ( low trash clear dmg, requieres coordiantion)
Condi share after latest buff seems to be viable. You get a free 5*2 second stun too with it too..
Can anyone show me some data vs the engi condi build?
I really like this build.
The burst( If you time it right) is amazing.
Especially for fractals this build is great because it gives a great amount of survivability besides the dmg.
And I think this build is viable even with frostbow.
Because many groups run 2 ele 1 guard 1 war. So the guard and the war can take the frostbows instead of the thief.
Besides, the frostbow even helps the build in this regard because it gets all venoms applied instantly.
Of course there is still a dmg loss because war and guard have less multipliers however I think this loss can be compensated by the increase in the personal dps.
Yea I would like to know too.
I’m talking something like venomshare/PVE content.
Has anyone done the math.
I really want to belive it eventhough I’m pretty sure it isn’t viable.

Anyways, aboout that soloing thing. Im sorry to let you down but mainly thiefs /mesmers do “Solo Runs” because they can break out of the map and easily kill the champs that way.
So i wouldnt take my focus on that part.
Id say just play the class you enjoy the most.
For me that class was thief. For others its ele or anything really.
I cant finde the exact quote atm.
But it was said that celestial is note supposed to be nerfed more than crti dmg in general.
So i suppose there will be fortitute on it?
Having a full celestial set and lots of crystals im also concerned.
The Eotm are supposed to be some sort of wvw overflow?
So queue times shouldn’t be a problem then i guess?
