Forcing a player to purchase an item, then in addition having to pay to use it is pretty greed-driven.
You get a free month when you buy the arena….
In addition, we know it will be “way cheaper” than 200 gems for a monthly token (Colin confirmed this awhile back). Furthermore, remember that gems can be acquired in-game without paying any RL money. I imagine if you and your pals have your own private custom arena, your pals can send you 1g a month and help pay for the monthly costs.
If it ends up being cheep enough to cover with in-game money i will be pretty happy. I don’t have the time to do much farming, so 6g a month may be too much, (that’s 2x all my money) but if they can make it as cheep as possible, I may not feel obliged to leave the game.
I just wanted to duel with my brother and play private games with my friends IRL. It’s looking like Arenanet won’t let me do that without paying extra money. I’m legitimately disappointed.
I payed for the game. If they want more money, they should make an expansion, not sell a fun part of the game that they have held out from us with a subscription.
So, trade gold for gems? Problem solved.
Not enough gold.
How about glory points or regular in game currency?
Yeah, I am sure ArenaNet can live off virtual currency with no real value.

Well, if that turns out to be true, then I will have lost a lot of respect for the guild wars 2 team. I very much hope that you are wrong.
What else would it cost? Love and hugs?

Well, this is a game changer for me. I’ve been looking forward to this since launch. If it costs real money, then I’m probably out of guild wars 2. I enjoy the game they have so far, but if they are changing their philosophy from fun to greed, then I can’t stay. I will stay long enough to see if you both are right or wrong and to see if the GW2 team take this feedback seriously. But I’m really concerned at the moment.
Its gonna cost gems.

Also, does anyone have any idea on how much it will cost of what currency?
I like this idea a lot. But why stop there? Why not have a few minigames in the custom arenas? I haven’t played the keg brawl, or any other minigames so I can’t give any examples. But while the custom arenas are a great tool, why not make them fun as well?
I realize that the custom arena’s are not only for dueling, but that is what my brother and I plan on using it for a lot. When we played Mabinogi, our mmo before this one, we always would spend a lot of time dueling, and that has been the one part of GW2 that hasn’t lived up to our old mmo. The beta for the custom arena’s is coming soon and I am excited to be able to duel my brother again with better combat options, a better game options, and with my new characters for GW2. The problem here is I can easily see us either spending too much of our little money on dueling, or decide that dueling isn’t worth the money. I don’t like the looks of this. Does anyone know which type of currency is needed(hopefully not gems, I would be so mad) to use the custom arenas, and why they are making these arenas cost any sort of currency. I know the beta hasn’t started yet, and even if it has, I wouldn’t be in it, but I would like to voice my opinion before anything becomes permanent and say that I would really like it If these custom arenas were not something that we would have to pay for in any way.
This is the first game i have played where i feel like i am not standing in one spot spamming skills 1-8. The game isn’t difficult, but it keeps my mind working as I’m playing. If you really like the game, but don’t find it challenging enough, I suggest posting another thread in the suggestions about any idea you have for more complex play. Also I suggest finding other ways to challenge yourself. Don’t run in the circles in orr. That’s boring and not a challenge at all, but there are other places with challenging events. If you think you are better at the game than all the rest of us casual players, you may find a lot of fun in WvW. There is plenty of army vs army fights, but you can find 1v1 fights also. Especially in the jumping puzzle in the eternal battlegrounds, but you can find people anywhere. If you want people to help you with ideas to make the game better, i suggest starting a new thread where the subject of the thread isn’t how horrible you worded the initial question.
I find that I can finish the dailies without trying to. It just happens if i play enough. for today’s daily, i need a daily loaral vender? thats all i have left. Im not sure what i need to do for that.
We know that this is a topic that’s going to be heavily discussed, and we definitely want as much of your feedback as possible, both positive and negative (so long as it remains constructive and within the guidelines of the rules of conduct). However I would just like to point out that this:
“…fact that it’s the highest concurrence time…”
is contradictory to this:
“why not choose a time where there’s a higher chance for people to choose to attend?”
The reason we chose the times that we did, when concurrency is at its peak, is precisely because it offers us the highest chance for the largest number of people to attend. By definition though, because concurrency rises and falls, that means it’s impossible for us to choose a time that offers us a chance for everyone to attend.
Offering events like this at multiple times for different time zones is certainly worth considering, but given our team’s goals and the timeline we had to operate in (we fielded our team immediately after shipping the Live game), it just wasn’t feasible for us to consider such an option for this particular event.
Having said that, this decision is something that we realized would not make everyone happy. Keep in mind that there is a tremendous lineup of content to choose from during the weekend and after, with both the island and the Fractals dungeon remaining active, and we will continue to listen to both criticisms and compliments about these special events in order to continually improve your playing experience.
I am one of the people who missed the attack on lions arch(if there was a real one). I am not wanting the game to go back in time for me. That ruins the feel that arenanet are trying to capture. But i would absolutely love it if there was a recording of the event. not a video, but like what you would see in starcraft II recordings. Where we could move the camra around activly while watching the archive and see what happened to get some perspective for other parts of the event. The way things are are alright with me, and i don’t plan on missing anything else. I would just have loved to see what i missed. i do hope to see a youtube video of what i missed and if anyone could send me a link to one that would be awesome. If there is no way to do that in the forum, then send it via ingame mail to “Tekad Warmaster” Thats my character.
never mind, it was on my side
:)
I’ve been disconnected twice since i posted this. Is this a problem on my end?
In the last hour, i have been disconnected several times. Is there a new change that could be causing this?
And i would enjoy being able to make more particle effects, since my computer would handle it. As long as you have a suggestion for how many the game is designed for.
Whenever I am walking through Divinity’s Reach, I appreciate the statues. I watch a lot of doctor who and I can’t help but hope that for an event sometime, the statues will start moving while people are around, but not looking at them. I assume it would be hard to program and it may not even be worth it, but i hope it is given some consideration by the ANet team dedicated to creating unique events. If you don’t understand why this would be cool, ask a whovian.
A reasonable proposition to reduce the issue of botting...

ANet can’t find the gold buyers just by banning the gold spammers. It is unlikely that the gold is even passing through the bots who spam in the chat. The idea of having ANet buy gold from the gold sellers is to find where the money really is comming from and who it is actually being sold to. I do think banning people who buy gold is a good idea. I hope ANet is able to find the gold buyers and i expect that they can do that best by following the money.

Botting is annoying and it hurts the game. Players are being hacked all the time and it really needs to stop somehow. The problem is that despite how many times GW2 bans accounts to stop this, people still buy gold often enough to support the gold sellers. I suggest that the GW2 team buy gold from gold sellers, and track where the gold comes from. After finding the gold sellers, track the gold that they sell, and delete the gold that has been sold to other players. If the player that bought the gold has already spent it, we could even go so far as to give the player a negative balance. This will dissuade players from buying gold and actually remove the gold from the purchaser. If the removal of a significant amount of gold from the in-game economy is an issue, i’m certain ANet can work out a way to redistribute the wealth – an ’everyone else gets rich off the gold-buyers BUT the gold-buyers" concept, if you will. Players will pay for gold less often and gold sellers will not invest as much time in this game. Please let me know what you think of this and give any further advice that ANet may be able to use to smite the issue of botters from the face of Tyria.
Right now i can only imagine someone having enough gold for that by buying it from a gold seller. I like this idea. I think 1k boh is a little too low for a price. I would suggest about 10k, because when i am following a commander, i would appreciate knowing that this person really knows what he is doing. I would also like it if the commander was able to do more. I think that people should still be able to buy a commander book in pve, but i think it should not carry over to wvw. I really like your idea, and i think anet would be mistaken to ignor it.

If the game was working, then it stopped all of a sudden, I think that the game isn’t compatable with your graphics card anymore. I think this is something that should be fixed by arenanet.
