Actually you used to be able to shadowstep over gaps. It’s not a technical limitation but an artificially implemented one. In BWE1 you could shadowstep on top of keep walls and they nerfed that by BWE2 along with the ability to hop gaps.
It seems most complaining of the class being weak are staff users. The staff is primarily a support weapon. You have your AOE chill, cripple, stun and heal (which is pretty good with a blast finisher). You can do some light dps in fire while everything else is on cool down. I use it only in group settings where more support is needed or the boss is just way too hard to be in melee range. It’s also a pretty bad solo weapon compared to your other options.
In my experience the best weapon for damage is the sceptor (dagger/dagger is also good but I found I kill a little faster with the sceptor) with either a dagger or focus for off hand. I personally prefer the dagger for fire grab and the earth number 4 and 5 abilities and lighting’s ride the lightning.
Before completely writing the class off, try using a sceptor and learn how to stack might. Never have had a problem soloing veterans or destroying groups of regulars.
people are complaining about Pistol Whip in pvp? Are you kidding me? How hard is it to dodge roll someone who has to stand still for a whole second. Infact the stun is so short, you start attacking as it finishes. Oh and if people are complaining about quickness/haste, you should tell them it’s side effects and if they still think it’s OP, just put them on your ignore list.
I won’t even get into how bad HS spam is or how easy it is to counter, if you can’t counter HS spam you were destined to lose anyway.
Tl;dr who cares what they say, they are just looking for excuses to be bad.
It can be hard to evade pistol whip. If they’re smart they immobilize you which means you can’t dodge. So you have to keep a CC breaker slotted and then dodge. If it’s hasted and it will be, you will definitely have to eat at least one round which is a ton of damage.
I don’t think its that OP btw, just stating the obvious. I think a huge source of complaints is everyone is running glass cannon builds because they’re still not sure how to spec. I dropped a elementalist the other day with one C/D and a backstab. I’m sure he kittened somewhere. I also ran into an elementalist that would have put a guardian to shame with how well he tanked and healed.
I agree that it’s a little overpowered and mainly because you can stack vit/toughness with it. I’ve been playing a necro in sPVP condition specced and I’ve only lost a couple of 1v1’s. Have won plenty of 1v2’s and have been able to hold off larger groups just kiting and using the cloud elite skill which gives me over 40k hps for 20 seconds. Enough time for a team mate to come and assist. I’m not very good at pvp but it’s pretty easy to kite and spread dots with a ton of hps. I think I’m around 25k with my spec not using the elite.
Removing my conditions is a non issue, can reapply them pretty quickly. It might pan out differently though against an organized team that supports each other but haven’t really encountered it yet.
I like running around in melee range in large group fights just spamming the crap out of cluster bomb. I’m like this little shrapnel spewing bomb. It seems if you move constantly you don’t get hit much so it works pretty well. Always lay down a poison field first so you get your weakness off.
I started doing that because the travel time feels like an eternity on cluster bomb and I’m very impatient. And its fun as hell too.
I found putting 10pts in earth and slotting defensive traits made a huge difference in my survivability.
Also, try using sceptor/dagger and use it in melee range. I’m able to burst down groups of mobs, 3-4 at least with just a fire rotation. I pull them in range with the #1 skill, cast ring of fire and hit them with #3 and #2, this will kill trash mobs. Veterans, hit them with a fire grab, should have 6 stacks of might, 9 if you used the arcane aoe as well. With this rotation fire grab crits harder at 40 than my 50 thief’s backstab. Switch to earth, knock em down and I like to use #5 and bleed them a bit with the number 1 ability and kite and heal up.
I have had great success doing this and it definitely got easier after traiting in earth. I also wear a mix of power/vit and power/prec gear. I’m sure there may be better ways but this works so well for me I haven’t really explored anything else. For leveling it rocks, trash dies nearly instantly and veterans are easy.
For bosses I just use the staff, I’ve tried the melee range caster with them but it’s just aggravating with how much you have to dodge and run away or die.
